The United States has successfully conducted its latest test of its ballistic missile defense
system known as Terminal High Altitude Area Defense or THAAD.
A congressional report says the test of THAAD and Aegis systems was conducted in the vicinity
of Wake Island in the western Pacific Ocean on November 1st.
The U.S. Missile Defense Agency says the test stressed the ability of the systems to negate
two ballistic missile threats while Aegis ballistic missile defense simultaneously conducted
an anti-air warfare operation. The U.S. wants to deploy a THAAD unit to South
Korea to better defend against threats from North Korea′s ballistic missile and nuclear
programs. China and Russia have raised objections to
its possible deployment, but Seoul and Washington insist. No discussions have been
held on the matter.
