The Olympic Torch does a very important job, playing a vital role in opening the Olympic
games, but in the frozen north of Russia it has a far more crucial function- providing
warmth.
The torch made the trip to the tundra of the Nenets Autonomous District near the Arctic
Circle on the 28th day of its 123 day relay around the country.
Games committee member Andrei Chibisov arrived by helicopter before dashing off through the
snow with the torch, although the local reindeer didn't seem all that impressed.
