He was the best ranked player in his school.

There was a very big tennis tournament

coming in one month

and Steve was expected to win it.

Steve thought though,

“I am so good, I don’t need to work very hard

and practice because the other players

are not very good.

I will win for sure.”

On the day of the tournament

Steve did not play well.

He was embarrassed at how bad he played.

The book of Proverbs in the Bible tells us that

“Proud thoughts will lead you to defeat.”

Steve lost because he was too proud

and not humble.

We need to all be humble

and not think too proudly of ourselves.
