I wanted to arrive in Bratislava early in the day, so I hit the road at 7 in the morning.

ブラチスラバに早く着きたかったので、朝の7時に出発した。

To hit the road means to start a journey or trip, usually by car.

ヒット・ザ・ロードとは、旅や旅行を始めることを意味する。

The drive along the highway was pretty scenic.

ハイウェイ沿いのドライブはかなり景色が良かった。

When a landscape is scenic, it means it's pretty, it's beautiful, and it's nice to look at.

風景が美しいということは、きれいで、美しく、見ていて気持ちがいいということだ。

I was excited to arrive in Bratislava and go sightseeing.

ブラチスラバに着いて観光するのが楽しみだった。

When you go sightseeing, it means you explore a city and you see all the attractions and sights.

観光に行くということは、その都市を探索し、すべてのアトラクションや名所を見るということだ。

I arrived in the city at 9am and I figured the best way to get around was by walking.

朝9時に街に着いたので、移動には歩くのが一番だと思った。

Bratislava is a very walkable city, which means it's easy to walk through, but you could also use public transportation.

ブラチスラヴァはとても歩きやすい街で、歩いて移動するのは簡単だが、公共交通機関を利用することもできる。

Public transportation is things like buses, trains, or in this case, trams.

公共交通機関とは、バスや電車、この場合は路面電車のようなものだ。

A tram is just a train that goes on the road in the city.

トラムとは、街中の道路を走る電車に過ぎない。

I really enjoyed wandering through the old town and checking out all the beautiful historic buildings.

旧市街をぶらぶら歩き、美しい歴史的建造物をチェックするのは本当に楽しかった。

One of my favourite things about Bratislava was definitely the architecture.

私がブラチスラヴァで気に入ったことのひとつは、間違いなく建築だった。

At 11, I felt like a coffee, so I decided to hang out at a cafe for a bit.

11時、コーヒーが飲みたくなったので、カフェで少しぶらぶらすることにした。

There was a large selection of coffee and tea at this cafe, so I spent some time browsing through the menu.

このカフェではコーヒーや紅茶の品揃えが豊富だったので、メニューを見て回った。

You could say browsing, but if you want to sound even more natural, you could say I was flipping through the menu.

ブラウジングと言うこともできるが、より自然に聞こえるようにしたいなら、メニューをめくっていたと言えばいい。

After I finished my coffee, I decided to explore the castle.

コーヒーを飲み終えた後、私は城を探索することにした。

Now the castle was on a hill, so I had to walk up a little bit and get some exercise.

城は丘の上にあったので、少し歩いて登って運動しなければならなかった。

To get into the castle, I had to purchase a ticket, which cost me 14 euros.

城に入るにはチケットを買わなければならず、14ユーロかかった。

In the castle, there was a museum where I discovered more about the history of the city and of Slovakia.

城内には博物館があり、そこで私はこの町とスロバキアの歴史についてさらに詳しく知った。

In the castle museum, I saw a lot of old artefacts.

城の博物館では、古い工芸品をたくさん見た。

An artefact is just an object from the past, or from a long time ago.

アーティファクト（人工物）とは、過去の、あるいは大昔の物体にすぎない。

There was also an art exhibit, which contained a lot of paintings.

たくさんの絵画が展示されていた。

An exhibit is just a collection of something, maybe paintings or artefacts, in a museum.

展示とは、美術館にある絵画や工芸品などのコレクションを指す。

Outside of the castle, I saw a place selling souvenirs.

城の外に出ると、土産物を売っている店があった。

A souvenir is something you take home from vacation, like a fridge magnet or maybe a postcard.

お土産とは、冷蔵庫のマグネットやポストカードなど、休暇から持ち帰るものだ。

When I travel, I don't normally buy souvenirs, so I didn't get anything today.

普段はお土産を買わないので、今日は何も買わなかった。

I was about to leave the castle and go back down into the city when I realized I had completely missed the castle gardens.

城を出て街に戻ろうとしたとき、城の庭園をすっかり見落としていたことに気づいた。

So I went into the castle gardens to check them out and to take a stroll.

そこで、私は城の庭園をチェックし、散策することにした。

To take a stroll means to take a slow, relaxed walk.

take a strollとは、ゆっくり、のんびりと散歩すること。

This is a great word and native speakers use it all the time, so I would definitely recommend adding it to your vocabulary.

これは素晴らしい単語で、ネイティブ・スピーカーはいつも使っている。

The gardens were very peaceful and they were a great escape from the busy, bustling city.

庭園はとてものどかで、忙しく喧騒とした街から逃れるには絶好の場所だった。

The word bustling means very busy, very noisy, or very loud.

bustlingという単語は、非常に忙しい、非常に騒々しい、非常にうるさいという意味である。

With that said, let's get back into the video and learn some more phrases and vocabulary.

After I took my stroll, I was getting hungry.

散歩をした後、お腹が空いてきた。

But first, I needed to take in the view.

しかし、その前に景色を眺める必要があった。

To take something in means to admire it.

何かを取り入れるということは、それを賞賛するということだ。

And in this case, the view was breathtaking and I could see far into the distance.

そしてこの場合、景色は息をのむほど素晴らしく、遠くまで見渡すことができた。

At this point, I was really hungry, so I decided to grab a bite to eat.

この時点で本当にお腹が空いていたので、食事をとることにした。

To grab a bite to eat is a really natural way of saying to go eat something.

grab a bite to eatは、何かを食べに行くという実に自然な言い方だ。

I found a restaurant that was highly rated, which means it had good reviews.

私は評価の高いレストランを見つけた。

Unfortunately, I did not have a reservation, but thankfully they accepted walk-ins, which means I didn't need a reservation and I could easily get a table.

あいにく予約はしていなかったが、ありがたいことにウォークインを受け付けてくれた。

I took a look at the menu and decided to order.

メニューを見て注文することにした。

My meal was delicious, but if you want to sound even more advanced, you can say it was exquisite.

私の食事は美味しかったが、さらに上級者っぽく言うなら、絶品だった。

After lunch, I paid a visit to another famous attraction called Michael's Gate.

昼食後、ミヒャエルズ・ゲートというもうひとつの有名な観光スポットを訪れた。

It's the only surviving city gate in Bratislava and it dates from the year 1300.

ブラチスラヴァに現存する唯一の城門で、1300年に建てられた。

Since this gate is so old, we could say it is historic.

この門はとても古いので、歴史的なものだと言える。

It wasn't busy at all, so I didn't have to line up and I could go in right away.

まったく混んでいなかったので、並ぶ必要もなく、すぐに入ることができた。

At first, I thought it might be a tourist trap, which means it's not worth it or it's something just made for tourists.

最初は、観光客向けのトラップかもしれない、つまり、行く価値がないか、観光客向けに作られたものだと思った。

But after climbing a lot of stairs and seeing the view, it was definitely worth it.

しかし、たくさんの階段を登り、景色を見た後では、その価値は間違いなくあった。

As we learned before, I could also say that I took in the view or that I admired the view.

以前学んだように、私は景色を眺めた、あるいは景色に感嘆したとも言える。

And since I could see the whole city, this was a 360 degree view, I could say it was a panorama.

街全体が見渡せたので、これは360度のパノラマと言える。

A panorama is a view of a large landscape or city from high above.

パノラマとは、大きな風景や都市を上空から眺めたもの。

Oh, and of course, the day wasn't complete without taking a detour to another beautiful cafe and enjoying a coffee.

そしてもちろん、別の美しいカフェに寄り道してコーヒーを楽しまなければ、この日は終わらなかった。

This was probably one of the most beautiful cafes I've been to and it was quite small, but it had a charming ambiance.

ここは私が今まで行ったカフェの中で最も美しいカフェのひとつで、かなりこじんまりとしていたが、魅力的な雰囲気があった。

The ambiance of a place is the atmosphere or the vibe.

場の雰囲気とは、その場の空気や雰囲気のことである。

The word vibe is a bit more informal, but it's still perfectly acceptable when you're talking to your friends or people you know well.

vibeという言葉はもう少しインフォーマルだが、それでも友人やよく知っている人と話すときにはまったく問題ない。

After my second coffee of the day and a pretty tasty cake, I went back outside and I roamed around some more.

今日2杯目のコーヒーとかなり美味しいケーキを食べた後、私は外に戻り、もう少し歩き回った。

To roam around is a great word and it's a synonym of to wander or to explore or walk without having a real goal.

彷徨う」というのは素晴らしい言葉で、「さまよう」、「探検する」、「本当の目的を持たずに歩く」ということの対義語だ。

You're walking around freely without any purpose.

あなたは目的もなく自由に歩き回っている。

And that's one of the things I like most about traveling and exploring new cities.

そして、それが私が旅行や新しい都市を探索する上で最も好きなことのひとつだ。

I had a great day because I could travel at my own pace.

自分のペースで旅をすることができたからだ。

To travel at your own pace means to have the freedom to travel as fast or as slow as you want.

自分のペースで旅をするということは、好きなだけ速く、あるいはゆっくり旅をする自由があるということだ。

And since I visited in October, I was lucky that it wasn't too crowded in the city.

10月に訪れたので、街中がそれほど混雑していなかったのもラッキーだった。

October is not peak season for tourism in Europe.

10月はヨーロッパ観光のピークシーズンではない。

That means it's not the busiest time of year.

つまり、一年で最も忙しい時期ではないということだ。

All in all, Bratislava is a pretty cool place and especially if you're in Central Europe, it's definitely worth a visit.

全体として、ブラチスラヴァはかなりクールな場所であり、特に中央ヨーロッパにいるのであれば、間違いなく訪れる価値がある。
