Over the last few years, Chad and I have come to visit Taipei several times because this is my family's country of origin, but for the next 48 hours, we're gonna do some activities and experiences that we've never tried before.

So without further ado, let's go and explore Taipei in northern Taiwan.

After about an hour drive from Taipei, we have made it to our first stop of the day, and behind us are a bunch of tea plants.

And they're in rows, and it looks very nice.

We're up in the mountains.

Yeah, so today is gonna be all about tea.

We're doing three stops at three different tea farms.

It just got harvested, so you can't really see the new tea leaves because I was looking closely, and the leaves are very, very thick.

And the tour guide was like, no, no, no, those aren't the ones you picked.

They're way too rough.

But we're gonna be drinking so much tea today, which is good, because I think it'll help with our jet lag and keep us awake.

If you didn't know, I am a huge fan of tea.

ご存じないかもしれないが、私は紅茶の大ファンなのだ。

I have at least two cups a day.

And so this is a really special treat for me to kind of learn all about the history and the process, especially of the tea here in Taiwan.

And we just learned four things that a really high A-class tea expert would say tea needs.

One, it needs a lot of sunshine.

Two, lots of rainfall.

And then four, it's gotta be in a foggy area.

And if it has all of those things, it's gonna make a really good cup of tea.

It's just so cool to learn about all the things that go into that thing that I drink every single morning when I wake up.

We just got ourselves a very thorough tea tasting, and we went into this old man's shop.

And he actually reminded me very much of my own grandfather, but he is a tea connoisseur.

He drinks several cups a day, and we got the chance to try three different kinds of tea.

And overall, the experience was really interactive, and it allowed us to use all five senses beyond just tasting the tea itself.

And so something that I thought was really cool was once he served up the tea, we had to flip the tea over and take that warm ceramic cup in our hands and rub it.

So I was rubbing it all over, and then you want to smell the tea as well.

It was extremely fragrant and aromatic.

One of the things I loved was watching the tea be brewed, just because as it would come out, it'd be all these different colors.

紅茶が淹れられるのを見るのが好きだった。

The oolong tea was like this light chartreuse, I would say.

ウーロン茶は薄いシャルトルーズのようだった。

And then there was another tea that was really special because the small grasshopper eats the leaves, and it changes the genetic makeup of this leaf, and it becomes like this brown tea, and it's so sweet, but they don't add any sugar to it at all.

小さなバッタが葉を食べると、葉の遺伝子が変化して茶色のお茶になるんだ。

And the color of it kind of looks like whiskey, and that's like another sense of being able to depict the colors that we see with every single tea that was being brewed.

So while we were drinking our teas, they were telling us like, oh my goodness, you're drinking it way too quiet.

The correct way to do it is slurping it back, kind of like how the Japanese slurp soup to express how delicious they think the meal is.

Right, and there's just like all sorts of noises and like they did such a good job of like showing us how to do it.

Yeah, I need to practice my tea drinking skills, but that was just a really cool experience overall.

And I was so honored to be able to do it in this man's home and have a fifth generation tea farmer sitting right there in front of us, teaching us how to do it the right way.

We have just made it to Shen Kang Old Street and this township is known for their bean curds and also their tofu, which means they have a really good stinky tofu around here somewhere.

I can already smell it.

We're just gonna follow the, you know, the aromas and go and get us some food to eat.

I'm starving, so I'm really excited.

I asked for stinky tofu and they brought like this tofu looking stew out.

Normally I believe it's like fried, but this looks healthier.

This looks really good too.

これも本当に美味しそうだ。

It looks very, very good.

Definitely a firm tofu.

But now that I've been to Taiwan four times and I've just been around it more, the smell has changed.

It's now like an appetizing kind of smell.

You actually start to crave it the more you have it, in my opinion.

I had to make sure that there were bubbles in there.

After eating that very spicy tofu, we were on the search for a bubble tea just to get some milk to help out with the spice.

But now I'm standing in front of a little street vendor that's known for selling chicken butts on skewers.

The flavor is really good though.

This is a, it's kind of like a mochi that has radishes stuffed on the inside.

Haven't had this since the last time we were here in Taiwan.

It's some sort of grass, I think, that they've mashed up.

It almost tastes like the Chinese supermarket.

You know, like sometimes when you walk through the doors and you can just smell a little something in the Chinese supermarket, that's what this tastes like.

Yeah, like a grandma herb or a grandma- It's Asian grandma specific.

For dessert, we have ourselves some brown sugar mochis, my favorite mochi flavor of all time.
