I watched The Karate Kid.

カラテ・キッド』を観た。

So I decided to join Karate.

それで空手に入ることにした。

And I practiced every day and I was really into it.

そして毎日練習し、本当に夢中になっていた。

And the time came to go into junior high school.

そして中学に入る時が来た。

Well, the social rules that apply for junior high school are not the same that apply in elementary school.

まあ、中学校で適用される社会的ルールは、小学校で適用されるものとは違う。

Kids turn into vicious creatures that will destroy you, right?

子供は凶暴な生き物に変身し、あなたを破滅させるでしょう？

I didn't know that.

それは知らなかった。

So, obviously, I was out of the loop with what was cool.

だから明らかに、私はクールなものには疎かった。

And there was this day where different people would come for career day.

そして、キャリアデーにはいろいろな人たちがやってくる日があった。

So we had an artist guy come.

それでアーティストの人に来てもらったんだ。

One guy made movies.

ある男は映画を作った。

Another dude was an accountant.

もう一人は会計士だった。

Everybody slept in that class.

そのクラスではみんな寝ていた。

That was really boring.

本当に退屈だった。

And then there was another guy that did health or something.

それからもう一人、ヘルスか何かをやっている男がいた。

He was like a gym instructor.

彼はジムのインストラクターのようだった。

And my karate teacher came.

空手の先生も来てくれた。

And I was like, this is my moment to shine.

そして、今が私の輝く瞬間だと思った。

This is how I'm going to get all the girls to like me.

こうやって女の子に好かれたいんだ。

As soon as they see me show off my moves, that will be the end of people thinking I'm weird.

僕の技を見せたら、もう変な人だと思われることはない。

They're going to be like, oh my gosh, he's so cool.

彼らは、ああ、彼はとてもクールだ、と思うだろう。

And so, my karate instructor was...

それで、私の空手の先生は...。

He came and they had a finale.

彼が来て、彼らはフィナーレを迎えた。

Because everybody went to watch him, right?

みんな彼を見に行ったんだろ？

I don't know why.

なぜかは分からない。

But they had him go in the big gym, right?

でも、大きな体育館でやらせたんだろう？

The gym and they had bleachers.

体育館には観覧席があった。

So all the students were sitting in the bleachers.

だから生徒たちはみんな観客席に座っていた。

And then he set up these two boxes and he put a board.

そして、2つの箱を用意し、ボードを置いた。

And he had a microphone.

マイクも持っていた。

He's wearing his gi and his belt.

ギとベルトを着用している。

And he's walking around really proud.

そして、本当に誇らしげに歩いている。

And he had a shaved head, bald in the beard.

しかも坊主頭で、ヒゲはハゲていた。

So, I mean, he's one of those guys, right?

つまり、彼はそういう男の一人なんだろ？

And so, he has his microphone.

それでマイクを持っている。

He's like, actually, one of my students is in your school.

実は、私の生徒の一人があなたの学校に通っているんです。

And I'm like...

そして、私は...

I stand up and I'm just walking.

僕は立ち上がって、ただ歩いている。

Now, you know, I want to show that I knew what I was doing, right?

今、僕は自分が何をしているのか分かっていることを示したいんだ。

So I go up to this instructor and I bow to him.

だから私はそのインストラクターに近づき、頭を下げた。

And he's like, Adam, break the board.

そして彼は、アダム、ボードを壊せ、と言ったんだ。

Now, I could have just broken the board, right?

今なら、ボードを壊すこともできただろう？

No.

そうだ。

I had to stand behind the board.

私はボードの後ろに立たなければならなかった。

And I broke it, right?

私が壊したんだよね？

Everybody was dead silent.

誰もが沈黙した。

I was cool.

私は冷静だった。

So I went home that night.

だからその夜は家に帰った。

And I told my dad the whole thing.

そして父にすべてを話した。

I said, Dad, I did the coolest thing today.

父さん、今日は最高にクールなことをしたよ。

I'm probably going to be the most popular kid in school tomorrow.

明日は学校で一番人気者になれるかもしれない。

So, he's like, okay, well, tell me what happened.

それで彼は、よし、何があったか話してくれ、と言ったんだ。

So I told him everything.

だから私は彼にすべてを話した。

And my dad's face went, like, from, like, trying to listen to... to more nervous.

そして父の顔は、話を聞こうとしていたような...もっと緊張していたような...。

And I was like, yeah, and then I broke the board.

そうしたら、ボードを壊してしまったんだ。

And then everybody was quiet and they thought I was so cool.

そうしたらみんな静かになって、僕のことをクールだと思ってくれたんだ。

And he's like, oh, they did, did they?

すると彼は、ああ、そうなんだ。

Oh, good.

ああ、よかった。

Yeah, that's awesome.

うん、すごいね。

And then I left.

そして私は去った。

And he told my mom, yeah, he's quitting karate tomorrow.

そして彼は母に、そうだ、明日空手を辞めるんだと言った。

And I did, the next day.

そして翌日、私はそうした。

I went to school and everybody's like, hi-ya-hoo!

学校に行っても、みんなヒャッホーって感じだよ！

And I was like, oh, crap.

そして私は、ああ、くそっ、と思った。

And then I got made fun of and that was the end of that.

それでバカにされて、それで終わったんだ。
