Last time you saw us we were in South Korea but we took a short flight a few days ago to get to Taiwan.

前回お会いしたときは韓国にいましたが、数日前に短いフライトで台湾に行きました。

We're at the Raohe street food market and we're going to get stuck into some street food because apparently this is what Taiwan does best.

私たちは饒河の屋台市場にいて、屋台料理にありつこうとしている。

All right let's go!

So we joined our first queue literally within a minute of being in the market.

だから私たちは、市場に入って文字通り1分もしないうちに最初の行列に加わった。

The first thing we're going to try is a pork pepper.

最初に試すのはポークペッパーだ。

Smells and feels so good.

香りも感触もとてもいい。

They basically put it in like a round circle oven and they stick it to the side, leave it there for a few minutes and then the guy will like scrape them off.

基本的には、丸い円形のオーブンのようなものに入れて、それを横に貼り付けて数分間放置し、男がそれを削り取るんだ。

They're literally getting these things out by the dozen.

彼らは文字通り、ダース単位でこのようなものを出している。

There's so many of them.

たくさんいるんだ。

It does smell really peppery to be fair.

公平を期すために、本当に胡椒の香りがする。

So it's got that nice doughy crust and you can see inside it's stuffed with meat actually.

生地がしっかりしていて、中に肉が詰まっているのが見える。

But it's so hot I can't even like get to the meat.

でも、暑くて肉に手が届かないんだ。

Okay let's try and get a bit of this meat.

よし、この肉を少し食べてみよう。

That meat is really tender but it's not overly peppery.

あの肉は本当に柔らかくて、でも胡椒が効きすぎていない。

I'm pleasantly surprised.

嬉しい驚きだ。

Sometimes when you queue up and you wait for a long time, although that was a really quick moving queue, you're a little bit disappointed at the end.

行列に並んで長い時間待つと、最後にはちょっとがっかりすることがある。

But I'm very happy with this first stop.

でも、この最初のストップにはとても満足している。

Next up we've got this pineapple bread.

次はパイナップルブレッドだ。

It has nothing to do with pineapples besides it looks like it.

パイナップルとは何の関係もない。

Watching them make it or just making me salivate.

彼らが作るのを見ていると、あるいはただ唾液が出てくる。

They have this delicious dough.

生地がおいしいんだ。

They brush it with butter, chuck it in the oven till it's golden brown, pull it back out again, let it rest and I think they heat it back up again before they give it to you.

バターを塗り、きつね色になるまでオーブンに入れ、再び取り出して休ませ、再び熱を加える。

We ordered butter.

バターを注文した。

You could have it with ice cream or cheese or other things.

アイスクリームやチーズなどと一緒に食べてもいい。

We just thought butter was enough and they just put literally a big slice of butter in the middle.

私たちはバターだけで十分だと思っていたのに、彼らは文字通り大きなバタースライスを真ん中に置いただけだった。

So good.

とてもいい。

Pretty like crisp on the outside, really doughy bread.

外はカリッと、中はもっちりとしたパンだ。

Butter's like melted a bit so warm.

バターが少し溶けたような温かさだ。

Nothing like crazy or out there or just a really nice bread.

クレイジーでもなく、突飛でもなく、ただ本当においしいパンなんだ。

Delicious melted butter.

おいしい溶かしバターだ。

I said to Matt, is it too early for dessert?

私はマットに、デザートはまだ早いかな、と言った。

He said no.

彼はノーと言った。

So we're having dessert already.

だからもうデザートを食べるんだ。

So next up is this amazing roll.

さて、次はこの素晴らしいロールケーキだ。

It looks so good and it's stuffed with ice cream.

とてもおいしそうだし、アイスクリームが詰まっている。

We've got three different flavours.

3種類の味があるんだ。

We've got sour plum, pineapple and taro.

梅干し、パイナップル、タロイモがある。

I'm not quite sure what taro is.

サトイモが何なのかよくわからない。

I've just tried to google it but I can't get a signal so I'm a bit of a mystery.

今、ググってみたんだけど、電波が届かなくて、ちょっと謎なんだ。

It's then wrapped in like this really thin sort of like a crepe and it also looks a bit like the popiah that we had in Malaysia.

それをクレープのような本当に薄いもので包むのだが、マレーシアで食べたポピアにも少し似ている。

It's then got peanut on top so it's like a peanut brittle that she sort of sands down, puts the peanut on and then cilantro as well.

ピーナッツが上にのっているので、ピーナッツの脆さのようなもので、彼女は砂を落としてピーナッツをのせ、コリアンダーものせる。

It looks so good.

とても美味しそうだ。

That pineapple ice cream is so good.

パイナップルのアイスクリームはとてもおいしいよ。

It's like really bursting with flavour and you've got like the crispy bits of the peanut and also like the casing is really nice as well.

ピーナッツのカリッとした食感もあるし、莢の食感もいい。

It's like really thin and light.

本当に薄くて軽いんだ。

I've never had ice cream in a roll but it's so good.

ロールケーキに入ったアイスクリームは食べたことがないけど、すごくおいしい。

So we've got these little sweet potato balls now.

それで今、この小さなサツマイモのボールがある。

You've got 16 for $50 which is pretty good.

50ドルで16本はかなりいい。

They're scalding hot so you have to wait a minute for them to cool down and we got original flavour.

熱々なので、冷めるまで1分待たなければならない。

Oh wow, they're so good.

わあ、すごくおいしい。

They're quite plain in terms of taste but we did get original but they're so doughy like little doughy balls of goodness.

味はかなり地味だが、オリジナルをもらった。

I could easily do 16 of those myself if we weren't doing a food tour and trying loads of different other foods.

食べ歩きをして、他の食べ物もいろいろ試してみなければ、16個は簡単に食べられるよ。

I was going to do a little side note so when I mentioned to Matt about having the sweet potato balls he literally said to me is it just a sweet potato.

ちょっとした余談をしようと思って、マットにサツマイモボールを食べようと言ったら、文字通り「ただのサツマイモか」と言われた。

He wasn't really that keen on the idea.

彼はあまり乗り気ではなかった。

He was like I'll try it but a sweet potato is like my perfect veg and now look at him.

でも、サツマイモは僕の完璧な野菜みたいなものなんだ。

Yeah I don't get how that comes from a sweet potato.

サツマイモからそんなことができるのか？

Obviously you can taste a little bit of sweet potato but like the texture is heaven.

明らかにサツマイモの味を少し感じるが、食感は天国だ。

It's one of my new favourite things he says.

Everything so far on this street food market has been amazing.

このストリートフードマーケットのこれまでのすべてが素晴らしかった。

I think it's one of the best in terms of choice and quality street food markets we've ever been to.

今まで行ったストリートフードマーケットの中でも、選択肢と質の高さではトップクラスだと思う。

Taiwan is delivering on street food as per reputation.

台湾は評判通りの屋台料理を提供している。

So next up we got the Taiwanese style hamburger.

で、次は台湾風ハンバーグ。

We've got the bao, lean pork, cilantro, some crushed peanut and the tiniest bit of spicy sauce because we can't handle spice.

バオ、豚の赤身、コリアンダー、ピーナッツを砕いたもの、そして辛さに弱いのでスパイシーソースをほんの少し。

There's a lot of stuff going on there but really good.

いろいろあるけど、本当にいい。

The peanuts are quite strong, only slightly spicy, nothing crazy.

ピーナッツはかなり強く、わずかにスパイシーなだけで、クレイジーさはない。

Pork is a little bit chewy but nice.

豚肉は少し歯ごたえがあるが、いい。

I like it.

You can't put anything inside a bao and I love it.

バオの中には何も入れられない。

It's really good.

I feel like this one's a little bit of a different stuff.

これはちょっと違うもののような気がする。

We're basically queuing for mushrooms.

私たちは基本的にキノコのために行列を作っている。

They're king oyster mushrooms I think.

キングオイスターマッシュルームだと思う。

This guy grills them and seasons them so there's a massive queue for every single mushroom store as well so I've got high hopes.

この人が焼いて味付けしてくれるから、キノコ屋もどこも大行列なんだ。

Wow what a queue.

すごい行列だ。

Everyone getting past us seems to be taking photos so I don't know if this guy is pretty well known but he knows how to cook a mushroom.

私たちを追い越していく人たちはみんな写真を撮っているようだから、この人がかなり有名な人なのかどうかはわからないけど、キノコの調理法を知っている。

These look so good.

So we got three huge mushrooms and then you can pick from a variety of flavours.

So we've gone for rose salt which I don't think I've ever tried.

だから、今まで試したことがないと思うローズソルトにしたんだ。

It's like pink Himalayan salt.

ヒマラヤのピンクソルトのようなものだ。

They look really juicy.

本当にジューシーに見える。

They're quite hard to bite.

噛むのはかなり難しい。

The flavour is really good but the texture is a little bit unusual in that you try and chew it or bite it and it doesn't bite quite tough.

風味はとても良いが、食感がちょっと変わっていて、噛んでみても噛んでもなかなか硬くならない。

I suppose that's why it's a good meat substitute but I'm not sure about the texture if I'm honest.

だから肉の代用品としてはいいのだろうが、正直なところ食感はよくわからない。

The flavour though really good.

でも味は本当においしい。

It's not short to me.

私には短くはない。

So this is something that we don't want to try but feel like we had to try because we're here.

Stinky tofu.

This is fried which I don't think is as bad because it doesn't smell as bad I don't think.

I mean I don't like tofu at the best of times.

Quite juicy and I don't think I like the stinky juicy stuff.

To be honest it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be and actually the texture itself like the crispiness is okay but the smell.

正直なところ、思っていたほど悪くはなく、サクサクとした食感自体は問題ないのだが、匂いが気になる。

At least we can say we tried it.

少なくとも、やってみたと言える。

Yeah.

We're washing the taste of stinky tofu out of our mouths with some drinks.

I've gone for a watermelon juice.

スイカジュースを飲んできたよ。

I've gone for a papaya milk which I've seen everywhere and it says I need to drink it within 15 minutes.

どこでも見かけるパパイヤミルクを買ってみたんだけど、15分以内に飲めと書いてある。

I'm not sure why but yeah if anyone local knows why you've got to drink papaya milkshake within 15 minutes please let us know.

なぜかわからないけど、パパイヤミルクシェイクを15分以内に飲まなければならないのか、地元の人で知っている人がいたら教えてください。

I did tell Laurie to wait 20 minutes and see what happens but she won't do it but this is so good.

ローリーには20分待って様子を見るように言ったんだけど、彼女はやらないんだ。

I've had like half of it already as we were walking to this spot to sit down and it's so refreshing.

この場所まで歩いて座っている間に、もう半分くらい飲んでしまった。

I'm just having my first taste.

There's not much flavour to it and it's quite thick and creamy but it doesn't really taste of much.

風味はあまりなく、かなり濃厚でクリーミーだが、味はあまりしない。

Yeah there's not much taste to it but I do sort of like the taste.

It's like quite grows on you.

それはまるで、あなたに馴染んでいくようなものだ。

It feels quite refreshing and it feels quite like natural and fresh and it is like super fresh.

とても爽やかで、ナチュラルでフレッシュな感じがする。

They were cutting it and blending it right in front of us from like these big boxes of papaya.

私たちの目の前で、大きなパパイヤの箱のようなものからパパイヤをカットし、ミキサーにかけていた。

How are we doing for stomach space?

We've had quite a lot today and I don't feel overly full but I don't want to overdo it.

今日はかなりたくさん食べたから、満腹感はあまり感じないけど、食べ過ぎはよくないね。

The problem is this is like such a good market.

問題は、このような良い市場だということだ。

I know we said that before but there is literally so much and it goes on and on and on.

前にも言ったけど、文字通りたくさんあって、延々と続くんだ。

I don't think you realise how far you're walking but there's still so much if you haven't tried.

自分がどれだけ歩いているのか気づいていないと思うけど、挑戦してみなければまだまだたくさんある。

I think I'm probably coming to the end of my stomach space.

そろそろ胃袋のスペースが限界かもしれない。

To be fair as well we've done pretty well for budget here.

I feel like it's been really reasonably priced actually and I feel like the quality has been really good of the food.

We've had loads and loads of tasty stuff.

Yeah it's not like super cheap but it is very reasonably priced.

Everything's sort of between 50 to 100 dollars which is like one to two dollars USD, one to two pounds British so it's all pretty good.

I think because it's so busy and so popular all the food is super fresh.

Whereas like some markets you go to some stalls are busy some aren't but this is definitely one of the best markets we've ever been to. you
