In this podcast, I'm going to talk not too fast and very clearly so you can practice your listening skills and also your pronunciation skills if you copy me.

このポッドキャストでは、早すぎず、とても明瞭に話しますので、リスニングの練習にもなりますし、私の真似をすれば発音の練習にもなります。

So if you shadow me, for example.

だから、例えば君が僕にシャドーイングをするとする。

Shadowing means to say what I'm saying.

シャドーイングとは、私が言っていることを言うことだ。

In Vietnamese, I think you guys can say bạch chứa.

ベトナム語ではbạch chứaと言えばいいと思うよ。

So if you do that, then you can practice your pronunciation.

そうすれば、発音の練習にもなる。

Before we start, I want to remind you that this podcast has English and Vietnamese subtitles.

始める前に、このポッドキャストには英語とベトナム語の字幕がついていることをお伝えしておきます。

So if there are any words that you don't understand or that you couldn't really hear clearly, just check the subtitles.

Well, first, I'll introduce myself to you guys and I'll tell you about What's Up English and kind of like what you can expect from What's Up English in the future.

まずは自己紹介と、What's Up Englishについて、そして今後のWhat's Up Englishに期待することをお話しします。

So firstly, well, very nice to meet you.

まずは、はじめまして。

My name is Carter.

私はカーター。

Maybe you've seen me in videos on TikTok or on Instagram.

もしかしたら、TikTokやインスタグラムの動画で私を見たことがあるかもしれない。

You know, those of you have seen me in different places.

私のことをいろいろな場所で見てきたと思う。

Some people, they see me on the street and they say, oh, are you the TikToker or whatever?

街で僕を見て、TikTokerの人？

And I say, yeah, yeah, I made a few videos.

と言うと、「そうそう、何本かビデオを撮ったんだ。

And so I wanted to make this podcast to connect with you guys on a personal level.

だからこのポッドキャストを作って、個人的なレベルで君たちとつながりたかったんだ。

But anyway, I'm getting a little bit off topic now.

I made this podcast to help English learners, specifically English learners in Vietnam.

英語学習者、特にベトナムの英語学習者を助けるためにこのポッドキャストを作りました。

And it's mostly for upper beginner and above learners.

しかも、ほとんどが初級者以上の学習者向けだ。

For total beginners, I don't think it's totally ideal to study with a native speaker.

全くの初心者にとって、ネイティブ・スピーカーと一緒に勉強するのは全く理想的ではないと思います。

I think it's better to learn from Vietnamese people.

ベトナム人から学んだ方がいいと思う。

But for higher level learners, you can start listening to native content.

しかし、より高いレベルの学習者であれば、ネイティブのコンテンツを聴き始めることができる。

And that is why I made this podcast.

だからこのポッドキャストを作ったんだ。

So I want to tell you guys about the journey from making TikToks up until now, because I could not believe how many people started following my TikTok and started watching my TikToks.

TikTokを作り始めてから今に至るまでの道のりを皆さんにお話ししたいと思います。私のTikTokをフォローし始め、私のTikTokを見始める人がどれだけいるのか信じられませんでした。

I put out videos nearly a year ago.

ビデオを出したのは1年近く前だ。

I believe it was August of 2022.

2022年の8月だったと思う。

I started putting out some videos on TikTok teaching English.

TikTokで英語を教えるビデオをいくつか公開し始めたんだ。

And I thought, oh, you know, if I could get a few followers and a few views, that would be cool.

そして、もしフォロワーが何人かいて、再生回数が何回かあれば、それは素晴らしいことだと思ったんだ。

I didn't expect much, to be honest.

正直、あまり期待していなかった。

But I had the goal of making videos that were really useful, that could, you know, really help Vietnamese English learners.

でも私には、本当に役に立つ、ベトナム人英語学習者の助けになるようなビデオを作るという目標があった。

So I made the first video, didn't get too many views, maybe I think 100 or something.

それで最初のビデオを作ったんだけど、あまり再生回数は多くなくて、たぶん100回くらいだったと思う。

And on TikTok, that's like nothing, because TikTok is the easy one out of, you know, the different platforms, right?

TikTokの場合、TikTokは様々なプラットフォームの中でも簡単な方だから、それは何でもないようなものなんだ。

I made another one, again, not too many views.

もう1つ作ったが、やはり再生回数はあまり多くなかった。

And then I think it was the third video that I made.

そして3本目のビデオだったと思う。

And the content was a little bit different.

内容も少し違っていた。

The style was a bit different.

スタイルは少し違っていた。

And I uploaded it when I was at a cafe.

カフェにいるときにアップしたんだ。

Then I started driving home.

それから私は家まで運転し始めた。

I didn't think too much about it.

あまり深く考えなかった。

And then I opened the app on my phone, because most people, when they upload a video on TikTok, you know, they open their phone to see how many views that they have.

ほとんどの人は、TikTokにビデオをアップロードすると、再生回数を見るために携帯電話を開くからね。

And so, yeah, I did that.

だから、そうしたんだ。

And then I saw it was like 5,000 or something.

そしたら5,000ドルとかだった。

And that was after about 15 minutes.

それも15分ほど経ってからだ。

And so I was thinking, something's wrong.

それで、何かがおかしいと思ったんだ。

Not only that, but a lot of people were following.

それだけでなく、多くの人がついてきていた。

And then every time I refreshed the page, there were like thousands more views.

そして、ページを更新するたびに、さらに何千ものビューがあった。

And so I was shocked, to be completely honest.

だから、正直言ってショックだった。

I did not expect that to happen.

そうなるとは思っていなかった。

Like, I kept refreshing.

何度もリフレッシュした。

And then there were more and more and more.

そして、どんどん増えていった。

And I was like, what is going on?

どうなっているんだ？

I have like 10,000 followers and 15,000.

フォロワーは10,000人とか15,000人とか。

It was exploding.

爆発していた。

And then so, well, I kept on uploading videos.

それから、まあ、ビデオをアップロードし続けた。

Because, again, I had all of these ideas in my head that I thought Vietnamese people could really benefit from this.

というのも、繰り返しになるけど、私の頭の中には、ベトナムの人たちが本当に恩恵を受けることができるんじゃないかというアイデアがあったんだ。

Like, it could be really useful for them.

彼らにとって本当に役に立つかもしれない。

And so, and apparently, you know, people liked it.

それで、どうやらみんな気に入ってくれたようなんだ。

And I was very happy about that.

それがとても嬉しかった。

And so I made videos for about, sorry, I'm talking a bit fast.

それで、ごめんなさい、ちょっと早口で。

And so I made videos for about six months consistently, maybe four or five.

それで半年くらい、4、5本くらいコンスタントにビデオを作った。

To be honest, I can't really remember.

正直、よく覚えていない。

And then I amassed about, you know, a bunch of followers, a bunch of views.

そして、たくさんのフォロワーと再生回数を集めました。

Some videos did much better than others, of course.

もちろん、あるビデオは他のビデオよりはるかにうまくいった。

But then I stopped making videos.

でも、それからビデオを作るのをやめた。

Because I had made a lot of videos.

たくさんのビデオを撮っていたからだ。

I had a lot of people follow me.

たくさんの人にフォローしてもらった。

I had a decent-sized Facebook group.

私はそれなりの規模のフェイスブックグループを持っていた。

But I didn't have anything else to give the students.

でも、それ以外に生徒たちに与えるものがなかったんだ。

And I think TikTok and Instagram Reels, those short videos, I think they're useful for learning.

TikTokやInstagram Reelsのような短い動画は学習に役立つと思う。

But if you really want to learn, you need to have more.

しかし、本当に学びたいのであれば、もっと多くのものを持つ必要がある。

And to be honest, I don't even really like TikTok.

正直なところ、私はTikTokが好きなわけでもない。

I don't like the whole short content thing going on, how everyone is pretty much addicted to short content.

短いコンテンツが流行っているのは好きではない。みんな短いコンテンツにはまっている。

Because I see it like that stuff is cake, you know.

ケーキのように見えるんだ。

It's like really sweet.

本当に甘いんだ。

It's delicious.

おいしいよ。

And when you eat it, you want to eat more.

そして、食べるともっと食べたくなる。

And when you eat it, your brain gets that dopamine and you feel really good, right?

それを食べると、脳にドーパミンが分泌され、とてもいい気分になるだろ？

And so it makes other foods not so appealing.

だから、他の食べ物があまり魅力的でなくなる。

Like if you eat cake all the time or if you eat something so delicious all the time, then the other things that are healthy but a little bit more bland won't be as appealing to you.

ケーキばかり食べているとか、美味しいものばかり食べていると、ヘルシーだけどちょっと味気ない他のものに魅力を感じなくなる。

And I see short content kind of like that.

そして、短いコンテンツはそのようなものだと考えている。

It makes us really used to getting that quick hit of a good feeling and then go to the next one.

そうすることで、私たちはすぐにいい気分を味わって、次に行くことに慣れてしまう。

And many people have talked about this.

そして、多くの人がこのことについて話してきた。

So I'm not going to talk about it too much.

だから、それについてはあまり話すつもりはない。

But what I wanted to do was create something bigger, create something more useful.

でも、僕がやりたかったのは、もっと大きなもの、もっと役に立つものを作ることだった。

And so that's what I'm working on right now.

だから、今取り組んでいるんだ。

I'm not going to talk too much about it.

あまり多くを語るつもりはない。

I will announce it in the future.

But yeah, so that's kind of why I stopped making TikTok videos is because I started spending my time making something else.

でも、TikTokのビデオを作るのをやめたのは、他のことに時間を使うようになったからなんだ。

And those videos on TikTok, they take a lot of time for me to think about what the video will be about, to film it, to edit it.

TikTokの動画は、その動画の内容を考えたり、撮影したり、編集したりするのにすごく時間がかかるんだ。

Because I didn't have a team.

チームがなかったからだ。

I was doing everything by myself.

私はすべてを一人でやっていた。

And so it took me a lot, a lot of time.

だから、とても時間がかかった。

And I realized if I wanted to create something bigger and better, then I need to sacrifice something to have more time.

そして、より大きく、より良いものを作りたいのであれば、何かを犠牲にして時間を確保する必要があることに気づいたんだ。

And so I put short videos on pause and I'm working on something else.

だから短いビデオは一時停止して、別のことに取り組んでいるんだ。

I want to focus more on long videos that are really high quality and really useful.

Whenever I'm making a video, I'm always thinking about you guys.

Because, you know, when you learn English, you also have to have fun.

And if it's purely educational, like someone in front of a whiteboard just writing, you know, this and this, then you feel bored.

また、ホワイトボードの前で誰かがあれこれ書いているような、純粋に教育的なものであれば、退屈に感じてしまう。

And while it is very educational, I think entertainment is crucial, especially these days when we can easily go to something else and be entertained.

そして、非常に教育的である一方で、エンターテインメントは非常に重要だと思う。

So, yeah, that's what you can expect from this channel is videos each week.

そう、このチャンネルに期待できるのは、毎週配信されるビデオだ。
