Well the history is quite old.

It has a history of 8,500 years and people have been living here during the Neolithic times.

8500年の歴史があり、新石器時代には人々がここに住んでいた。

But then Constantine built this city as the new capital city of Roman Empire.

しかしその後、コンスタンティヌスがこの都市をローマ帝国の新しい首都として建設した。

So the other name for Istanbul is Nova Roma, the new Rome.

つまり、イスタンブールの別称はノヴァ・ローマ、新しいローマなのだ。

As Rome was built on seven hills, Constantine built the city on seven hills.

ローマが7つの丘の上に建設されたように、コンスタンティヌスも7つの丘の上に都市を建設した。

When you're looking at the old city of Istanbul, you can identify the seven hills because there are seven mosques.

イスタンブールの旧市街を見ていると、7つの丘があることがわかる。

So wherever there's a giant mosque, that's one of the first seven hills where Istanbul started.

The seven hills of Istanbul are found on its historic peninsula, south of the sea inlet, the Golden Horn.

You know, Golden Horn is the water inlet which separates the old city from the new city.

The new city is called Pera.

Because the Byzantines lived there throughout the centuries.
