I have something in my eye.

目に何か入った。

I don't actually have something in my eye.

目に何か入ってるわけじゃないんです。

That's the first phrase that I wanted to teach you.

これが最初に教えたかったフレーズです。

If you're working somewhere dusty or maybe where there's a lot of insects, eventually, you might get something in your eye and that's the phrase we use to describe it and we use the word in.

ほこりっぽい場所や虫が多い場所で作業していると、最終的に目に何かが入ることがあります。これを説明するために使う表現が「in」という単語を使ったものです。

So you could say, "Oh, I can't see very well. I have something in my eye."

だから、「ああ、よく見えない。目の中に何か入ってるんだ。」

And then I guess I'm just rubbing my eye, hoping that whatever is in my eye will come out.

そして目をこすって、目に入ったものが出てくることを願うだけです。

That's probably not the best way to do it.

それはベストな方法ではないでしょうが。

But anyways, your first phrase, you can have something in your eye.

とにかく、最初のフレーズ、目に何か入っているという表現です。

Trying to see if I have something on my face.

顔に何かついてないか確認しています。

I was just working somewhere really dirty and dusty and I feel like I have something on my face.

本当に汚くて埃っぽい場所で作業をしていて、顔に何かが付いているような気がします。

Do I have something on my face?

顔に何かついてる？

No, I don't think I do.

いや、ないと思う。

But I'm sure this has happened to you before.

でも前にもあったでしょ？

Someone might be looking at you funny and you might say, "Do I look strange? Do I have something on my face?"

誰かが変な目であなたを見ているかもしれません。そんな時に、「変に見える？顔に何か付いてる？」と言うかもしれません。

Maybe you have a little bit of mud on your face, maybe a little bit of dirt on your face, but that's how we would describe that situation if that happened to you.

もしかしたら、顔に少し泥や汚れがついているかもしれません。でも、もしそんなことがあったら、私たちはその状況をそう表現するでしょう。

You would say, "Hey, do I have something on my face?"

「顔に何か付いてる？」って言うでしょう。

You might look in a mirror to check if you have something on your face.

鏡で自分の顔に何かついてないかチェックするでしょう。

Sometimes when I eat spinach or something really, really green like kale, I might end up with something between my teeth.

ほうれん草やケールのような緑色のものを食べると、歯に何か挟まることがあります。

This is always a little bit embarrassing, but that's how we describe that.

これはいつも少し恥ずかしいですが、そのように説明します。

You say, "Oh, I think I have something between my teeth."

「歯の間に何か挟まってる 」って言うんです。

When I have something between my teeth, like a little piece of spinach or a little piece of kale, I'll use maybe a toothpick to get it out.

ほうれん草とかケールとか、歯の間に挟まった時は、爪楊枝を使ってそれを取り除きます。

Maybe I'll find a mirror and use a toothpick.

鏡を見て爪楊枝を使います。

I could also use some floss, some dental floss.

デンタルフロスも使いますよ。

Dental floss is really handy when you have something between your teeth.

デンタルフロスは歯と歯の間に何か挟まった時にとても便利ですね。

I'm not gonna floss my teeth right here.

こんなとこでフロスは嫌ですけど。

Oh, I dropped it on the ground, that's okay.

あ、地面に落としちゃった、大丈夫だろう。

Or I might use a flosser.

あと、フロッサーも使うかもしれません。

This is kind of a newer thing.

これはちょっと新しいやつと思います。

I don't know if you have these in your part of the world, but if I had something between my teeth, that's how I would describe it.

あなたの地域にこれがあるかどうかはわかりませんが、もし歯の間に何かが挟まっていたら、そのように説明します。

I have a piece of spinach between my teeth or a piece of kale between my teeth.

歯と歯の間にほうれん草やケールの切れ端が挟まってるんです。

I might use a flosser or floss or a toothpick to get it out.

フロッサーか、フロスか、爪楊枝で取ります。

So you can see that I'm wearing a watch on my wrist.

手首に時計してるのわかりますか？

I also have a wedding ring on my finger.

結婚指輪もしていますね。

This is how we describe these two things.

この 2 つをこう表現します。

I wear a watch on my wrist.

手首に腕時計をしています。

I wear a wedding ring on my finger.

結婚指輪をしています。

In the morning when I get up, I usually have a shower, get ready to go to work, but before I leave, I put my watch on my wrist and I put my wedding ring on my finger.

朝起きたら、シャワーを浴びて、仕事に行く準備をするんですけど、出かける前に腕時計を手首にはめ、結婚指輪を指にはめるんです。

So we use the word on when talking about watches or this is actually a Fitbit, I should have mentioned that, a fitness tracker.

時計について話すときには「on」という言葉を使います。実際にはこれは Fitbit で、フィットネストラッカーです。それを言っておくべきでしたね。

I put this on my wrist and I put this ring on my finger.

手首にはこれ、指にはこの指輪。

Okay, I promise I'm not actually going to do this next one, but sometimes little kids do this.

まあ、次はやらないと約束しますけど、時々子供がやるんですね。

They put their finger up their nose.

鼻に指を入れます。

I'm not gonna put my finger up my nose.

本当に鼻に指は突っ込みませんよ。

I can fake it.

ごまかせるさ。

I can turn sideways and pretend to put my finger up my nose.

横を向いて、鼻に指を入れるふりができます。

It's not actually up my nose, but that is the phrase we would use and that's the word we would use, up, to describe that.

実際に鼻の中にあるわけではありませんが、そのような状況を説明するためには「up」という表現を使います。

Sometimes little kids, they have snotty noses and it's really messy and gross and then to make things even worse, they put their finger up their nose.

時々、小さな子供たちは鼻水が出て、とても汚くて嫌な状況になります。さらに悪いことに、指を鼻に入れてしまいます。

Oh, it just makes me, oh, it's just gross just thinking about it, but that's how you would describe it.

想像しただけでキモい。でも、それがそのように説明されます。

You would put your finger up your nose if you were a little kid and that's something you like to do.

もし小さな子供なら、指を鼻に入れるのが好きなんでしょう？

So if you listen, you might be able to hear the geese.

They're not too loud right now, but you can hear them a little bit.

If they were really loud though, I might put my fingers in my ears.

If you're somewhere loud like a rock concert or at an airport, you might put your fingers in your ears so that it's not as loud.

ロックコンサートや空港のような大音量の場所なら、指を耳に当ててうるさくないようにするかもしれません。

I don't think you're actually supposed to put your fingers in your ears though.

指を耳に入れるのは本来良いことではないと思います。

I think you're just supposed to kind of push your ears closed.

耳を閉じるためには、耳を押さえる方が良いと思います。

I think that's a better thing to do.

その方がいいと思います。

And there is another English phrase, it's called plugging your ears.

英語では、 「plugging your ears 」とも言うんです。

I can plug my ears if it's too loud.

うるさかったら耳を塞ぐんです。

Sometimes really loud cars or motorcycles go by and you need to plug your ears or put your fingers in your ears so that your hearing isn't damaged.

たまに大音量の車やバイクが通ると、耳を塞いだり、耳に指を入れたりして聴力を損なわないようにします。

So take your fingers, put them in your ears and the whole world is a lot more quiet and a lot more peaceful.

指を耳に入れると、世界が静かになり、平和になるんです。

So it's really sunny out here today, so I'm wearing my sunglasses, but if the clouds went over the sun, I could put my sunglasses on my head.

今日は晴れてるからサングラスをかけてるんですけど、もし雲が太陽の上に行っちゃったら、サングラスを頭に乗せることができるんです。

We use the word on when we put things up here.

ここに何かを置く場合には、「on」という言葉を使います。

You can wear a hat on your head.

帽子をかぶることができます。

You can put your sunglasses on your head.

サングラスを頭の上に置きます。

When you put stuff up here, the phrase you use is on your head.

ここに物を置く時は「on your head」というフレーズを使います。

So if it's sunny, I wear my sunglasses.

晴れたらサングラスをかけます。

If it clouds over though, I can put them on my head.

曇ったらサングラスを頭の上に置きます。

So I don't wear a lot of jewelry.

あまりアクセサリーはつけません。

I wear a wedding ring on my finger, like I mentioned earlier, but I don't wear a necklace around my neck.

さっき言った通り、指に結婚指輪をつけていますが、首にはネックレスをつけていません。

When we talk about wearing a necklace, we use the word around.

ネックレスをする時は 「around 」を使います。

You wear a necklace around your neck.

ネックレスを首にかけています。

I don't wear a necklace around my neck because I don't know, it just makes me feel uneasy.

ネックレスを首にかけると、なんだか不安な気持ちになるからかけません。

I don't like having something around my neck.

首に何か巻いてるのは好きではありません。

So that's the word you use, around.

そうですね、「around」という単語を使います。

If I was someone who liked wearing a necklace, I would wear it around my neck.

ネックレスが好きな人だったら、首につけると思います

Okay, last one.

よし、最後です。

What do you think I have in my hand?

手に何を持ってると思いますか？

When you have something and you're holding it like this, you use the phrase in your hand, or I would say in my hand.

何かを持っていて、それをこのように持っているとき、「in your hand 」という表現を使います。

What do you think I have in my hand?

私の手に何を持ってると思いますか？

I'll open it in three seconds.

3秒で開けますね。

You take some time to guess.

I have a toonie in my hand.
