When I was a child, I used to think Snow White was a Japanese lady.

She has geisha-like pale skin, black hair and tends to seven ugly white men.

I have this what you call it nonthreatening sweet Japanese lady face and I didn't know about it.

私は、あなたたちが言うように、脅威ではないかわいい日本の女性の顔を持っていて、それについて知りませんでした。

When I was living in Japan with bunch of nonthreatening sweet Japanese ladies, I didn't really realize racism existed in the world.

私が住んでいた日本で、たくさんの私と同じく「脅威ではないかわいい日本の女性」たちと一緒にいたとき、実際には世界に差別が存在することにあまり気づかなかったです。

But then when I go outside Japan, I experience racism firsthand.

でも、日本の外に出ると、人種差別を肌で感じます。

Like when my friends want me to be in their photos, they go, "Hey, Yumi do the girl from the Ring."

友達が私が彼らの写真に出てほしいと言うと、「ねえ、ユミ、『リング』の女の子をやってみて」と言うんです。

"Put your hair in front of a face."

「髪を顔の前に。」

And I do it because I am an entertainer.

And I will be like.

Sometimes I notice white people confuse me with other Asian women and my friends say that's racist.

たまに白人が他のアジア人女性と混同してるのに気付きますけど、友達に差別だって言われます。

But I don't think so because face recognition skill is nothing to do with racism.

でも、私はそうは思いません。顔認識のスキルは差別とは何の関係もないからです。

It's racial familiarity.

I have trouble distinguishing white people too.

私も白人の区別がつきません。

This is why I still can't tell the difference between Zooey Deschanel nd Katy Perry, Julia Roberts and Steven Tyler.

I just finished filming Comedy Central Asia in Singapore.

シンガポールでコメディ・セントラル・アジアの撮影を終えたところです。

Crossing the border into Singapore made me very nervous because they told me I didn't have to bring anything.

国境を越えてシンガポールに入るとき、何も持ってこなくていいと言われたので、とても緊張しました。

Apparently, if you are a performer and staying there less than 30 days, you don't need any visas.

パフォーマーで30日以内の滞在ならビザはいらないらしいです。

Crossing the border without any documentation in my hands with no questions asked felt exactly the same as when an ICBC staff converted my Japanese driver's license into a Canadian one without testing me.

何の書類も持たずに問答無用で国境を越えたのは、ICBC の職員が検査もせずに日本の運転免許証をカナダの運転免許証に変えたのと全く同じ気分でした。

I was like, "Are you sure about this decision?"

「この判断でいいの？」って感じでした。
