"Buttergate" refers to a 2021  incident in Canada where butter  

became harder due to the increased use  of palm oil in dairy cattle's diet.

This change, noticed by consumers as butter  stopped softening at room temperature,  

led to widespread dissatisfaction.

Despite initial denials, the Dairy Farmers  

of Canada eventually recommended that  farmers stop feeding palm oil to cows.

The situation, intensified by increased  home baking during the COVID-19 lockdowns,  

spurred criticisms about transparency in  the dairy industry and their practices  

of adding palm oil to cattle's diet  for boosting fatty milk production.
