Today I'm going to take you guys on an adventure through Yamagata prefecture.

今日は、山形県を冒険してみます。

We're going to be visiting some very famous resorts and learning a lot about them and I think it's going to be amazing.

これから超有名なリゾートを訪問して、いろいろと教えてもらうのですが、すごいことになりそうですね。

So let's go as one of the most seismically active countries in the world.

では、世界で最も地震が多い国のひとつとして、行ってみましょう。

Japan is home to over 3000 onsen areas and the mountainous region of Yamagata prefecture in the North has a reputation for being blessed with some of the best hot springs in the country.

日本には3000を超える温泉地があり、中でも北部の山形県は全国でも有数の温泉に恵まれていると言われています。

Today, we're going on a trip through the villages of Zao and Kami No, Yama as we test out four different types of baths.

今日は、蔵王と神の山を巡りながら、4種類のお風呂を試します。

Taste some of the local specialties and experience the stunning winter scenery and our first stop on our journey is Zao Onsen village, although most well known for its beautiful ski slopes, zombies or you will find the oldest Onsen baths in Yamagata Prefecture with a history dating back over 1900 years.

蔵王温泉は、スキー場として有名ですが、1900年以上の歴史を持つ山形県内最古の温泉郷です。

The springs of how are known for their unique mineral makeup, which many on sunbathers claim can improve your skin and actually heal wounds.

この温泉は、独特のミネラル成分を含んでいることで知られており、日光浴をする人の多くが、肌を美しくし、傷を癒す効果があると主張しています。

Were lucky to be joined by Hiromi Ito today, a local guide who will hop in the bath with us and explain what makes his own son water so special, Very special.

今日は、伊藤ひろみさんという地元のガイドさんが来てくれて、一緒にお風呂に入りながら、自分の息子の水がどんな風に特別なのか、説明してくれるんです。

I want to tell you guys.

皆さんにお伝えしたいことがあります。

So the acidic bath is good for refreshing your skin affiliation.

だから、酸性のお風呂は、肌の親和性をリフレッシュするのにいいんです。

But later on we're going to go to a very alkaline bath first.

でも後で、まず強アルカリ性のお風呂に行くんです。

It's really nice to enter a bath like this here in and then head over to the alkaline bath to replenish your skin with moisture.

このようなお風呂に入り、アルカリ性のお風呂で肌に水分を補給するのは本当に気持ちいいですね。

ちょっとお腹が空いてきた。

There's actually a local specialty here in south called Egham Oki.

実は、ここ南部には「エガムオキ」という名物があるんです。

But it's so popular that you have to make sure you go out to a little shop and buy it during the morning or they will all sell out.

でも、人気があるので、午前中のうちに小さな店に出かけて買うようにしないと、全部売り切れてしまうんです。

But I will.

でも、そうします。

I was able to get some so check these out.

手に入れることができたので、これらをチェックしてみてください。

I've actually never seen it before.

The little golden things on top of the mochi are apparently rice.

Egham Oki is to just pick up the leaf like this and bite it.

エガオキとは、このように葉っぱをつまんでかじるだけのことです。

It's quite soft mochi, which is really nice.

かなり柔らかいお餅で、本当に美味しいです。

You can tell they're super fresh.

Yeah, these are super yummy.

I can see why they're really famous.

Alright, we're back outside into the snow.

さて、再び外の雪景色へ。

I'm actually taking you guys through town a little bit for about a five minute walk.

実は、5分ほど歩いて街中を少し案内しているんです。

I want to show you another option that you have for baths here.

ここでは、お風呂のもうひとつの選択肢を紹介したいと思います。

So, Enzo.

で、エンゾ。

Onsen town, there are three public baths that can be used even if you're not staying overnight at any of the deal con.

温泉街には、3つの共同浴場があり、どのディールコンにも宿泊しなくても利用することができます。

You can just pay a few dollars and hop in and enjoy the baths out here.

数ドル払って飛び乗るだけで、ここのお風呂が楽しめるんです。

Very popular with the locals.

地元の人にとても人気があります。

Look at how much snow it snowed so much today.

見てください、今日こんなに雪が降ったんですよ。

These are not good shoes.

これは良い靴とは言えません。

So this is a hand bath.

これは手桶なんですね。

Okay here we are, the public bath.

よし、来たぞ、銭湯だ。

So you walk up here and you put in your coins, there's no staff here to take your money.

だから、ここに来てコインを入れても、お金を取ってくれるスタッフはいないんです。

They trust you, they trust that you'll put your $2 in there.

This is the female side and boys are over there.

So inside each own saying you can usually find a plaque like this on the wall that tells you about all the different minerals that are in the water and the exact content, the exact amount of each one.

So it's a little indoor bath.

だから、ちょっとした内風呂なんです。

I was thinking it was going to be outdoors.

屋外でやるのかと思っていました。

It's quite spacious.

So after about a five minute stroll from the previous bath we were in.

というわけで、前のお風呂から5分ほど歩いたところで、私たちは入りました。

I found another one and it's so pretty.

もう一つ見つけたのですが、とても可愛いです。

It kind of looks like a little shrine or something after a slightly dangerous drive down the road.

なんだか、ちょっと危険な道を走った後の小さな神社とかのような感じです。

It took about 30 to 40 minutes.

所要時間は30〜40分程度。

Um and I've arrived at my Yukon for the night.

そして、今夜のためにユーコンに到着しました。

It's super pretty.

超きれいです。

I'll show you guys the room after dinner.

夕食後、部屋を案内する。

I've got this private room all to myself and yeah, I think they're bringing the food in now smells amazing stuff here are so friendly.

この個室は私だけのものです。そして、今、食事が運ばれてきていると思うのですが、素晴らしい香りがします。

So talkative.

饒舌なんですね。

I feel like people in quite, quite friendly and outgoing.

かなり、気さくで外向的な人が多い気がします。

But she taught me a lot about the food here and she said that the cognac.

でも、彼女はここの料理についていろいろ教えてくれたし、コニャックもそうだと言っていた。

Ooh is like one of the main of Yamagata and you can see they've prepared it like sashimi basically.

山形の代表的な食材のひとつで、刺身のように調理されているのがわかると思います。

Once you put the sauce on it does taste like like a Maduro sashimi.

タレをつけると、確かにマドロス刺しのような味になりますね。

This is so nice right now because that was so chilly from being on the snow so long and all the foods are nice and warm and yeah, so I'm going to enjoy my dinner and then I'll take you guys around my room later.

雪の上にずっといたから寒かったし、食べ物も全部温かくておいしいし、いいね。

It's pretty cool.

かなりイケてますね。

There's one interesting feature about it that you will see later.

これについては、後で見ることになるのですが、ひとつ面白い特徴があります。

Great quick room tour time because I'm gonna hop in the bath soon here.

これからお風呂に入るので、お部屋の見学はお早めに。

But this is the main room.

でも、ここがメインルームです。

It's quite spacious, huge bed.

かなり広くて、ベッドも大きい。

It looks really comfy.

本当に心地よさそうです。

Hopefully it's as comfy as it looks.

見た目通りの快適な使い心地だといいのですが。

All of Yukon are pretty much the same.

ユーコンはどこも同じようなものです。

There's always like a little area for eating your snacks and drinking tea.

お菓子を食べたり、お茶を飲んだりできる小さなスペースが常にあるような感じです。

But the best part is this, it's a heated carpet.

でも、一番の魅力はこれ、ヒーター付きカーペットなんです。

It's so nice.

とても素敵です。

When I came in they already had it all heated up for me.

私が来店した時には、すでに暖房を付けてくれていました。

So I've just been lying on this all evening and through this store is actually entrance.

それで、夕方からずっとこの上に寝そべっていたんですが、この店を通して、実は入り口があるんです。

I didn't start in here because it's freezing cold.

凍えるほど寒いから、ここで始めなかったんだ。

There's no air con in here.

ここはエアコンがないんですよ。

So it's super cold but nothing too exciting in here.

というわけで、超寒いですが、ここは特に盛り上がることはありません。

This is the sink and toilet area.

こちらは洗面台とトイレのスペースです。

There's no shower or bath area at first.

最初はシャワーやバスタブがないんです。

I was like no I have to share with people.

私は、「いや、人と分かち合わなければならない」と思いました。

I hate doing that.

そんなの嫌だ。

But no, just wait there's actually a secret bath outside.

でも、ちょっと待ってください、実は外には秘密のお風呂があるんです。

How cool is that?

なんてかっこいいんでしょう。

Look at it out in the snow.

雪の中で見てください。

It's so cold out here but it's so pretty.

こんなに寒いのに、こんなにきれいなんです。

I can't believe I have a bath all to myself.

お風呂を独り占めできるなんて。

And the shower is also out here which will be very cold in the morning when I wash my hair but I can't complain because look how gorgeous that bath is.

シャワーも外にあるので、朝、髪を洗うときはとても寒いのですが、このお風呂の豪華さを見れば、文句は言えません。

Let's get in and try it out.

So we're currently at Kami No Yama area and the water here is the exact opposite it to what it is in the sentences that were in earlier.

今、神の山というところにいるのですが、ここの水は、さっきの文章とはまったく逆です。

So that water is super acidic.

その水は超酸性なんですね。

Whereas this water, as you can see is perfectly clear and it's very alkaline.

一方、この水はご覧の通り、完全に透明で、非常にアルカリ性です。

カミノにあるこの水。

Yama is good for moisturizing your skin.

山は肌の保湿にいいんですよ。

So it said that you're supposed to visit johnson first to exfoliate your whole body and then make the trip down here.

だから、まずジョンソンで全身の角質を取ってから、ここに来るようにと書いてあったんです。

It's only like a 30 40 minute drive and enter the answer in here and moisturize your skin So it's really cool that there are two Ensign in the area in Yamagata here.

車で30～40分のところにあるんですが、ここに答えを入力して、肌を潤すんです。だから、この山形の地域に2つの少尉がいるのは本当にすごいことなんです。

The pair really well together and are great for your skin.

この2つは本当に相性がよく、お肌にもいいんです。

We got really lucky with this huge snowfall that happened just before my trip.

旅行の直前に大雪が降って、本当にラッキーでした。

Made the adventure up here a little treacherous but I would say it was well worth it because the views have just been beautiful tomorrow.

このため、ここまでの冒険は少し危険でしたが、その甲斐あって、明日の景色はとても美しいものでした。

We're gonna be exploring the camino.

How pretty is this place?

ここはなんてきれいなんだ

So this is called And the reason for that the Neo con that we stayed at last night.

というものです。 その理由は、昨夜泊まったNeoコン。

They own this mountain.

この山は彼らのものだ。

They purchased this land, they cleared the plants that were originally on it and planted a whole bunch of Sakura.

この土地を購入し、元々あった植物を伐採して、サクラを一杯植えたそうです。

So in the spring there are so many flowers blooming here and they definitely need to come back and see it because it sounds really amazing but it's equally is pretty in the winter.

春にはたくさんの花が咲き乱れ、本当に素晴らしいと思いますが、冬も同様に美しいですから、ぜひまた来てください。

Check it out so nice and the snow is nice and powdery.

とても素敵で、雪もパウダースノーで気持ち良いので、チェックしてみてください。

It's nice to walk in walking to amazing.

ウォーキングでスゴイに歩くのはいいことです。

You couldn't ask for a more beautiful view.

So Yamagata Prefecture is famous for a lot of fruit.

山形県は果物がたくさんあることで有名なんですね。

As you're driving through the prefecture, you'll see lots of orchards and we've come to a place called Fruit Land.

県内を走っていると、果樹園がたくさんあり、フルーツランドというところにやってきました。

Apparently they have four shops throughout Yamagata and they're very famous for their fruit and their fruit par phase.

どうやら山形中に4店舗あるようで、フルーツとフルーツパーフェーズがとても有名なんだそうです。

So if you come into their shop they will have a daily parfait and each time you come in, the ingredients will change depending on which fruits are in season.

だから、彼らの店に来れば日替わりパフェがあり、その都度、旬の果物によって材料が変わるのです。

So here is today's fruit parfait featuring shine muscat which are these really nice green grapes that you need to try if you come to Japan you can't find anything like them in.

シャインマスカットを使ったフルーツパフェです。この緑色のぶどうは、日本に来たらぜひ食べてみてください。

とてもおいしいんです。

I've got myself a selection of local fruits here that I'm gonna try.

地元産のフルーツを手に入れたので、試してみようと思っています。

I'm mostly excited for the persimmon because I've heard about how the persimmons of this area are super sweet because of the cold weather.

この地域の柿は寒いので超甘いという話を聞いたことがあるので、柿に一番期待しています。

Apparently strawberries are actually in season in the winter in japan and they use them for christmas cake.

日本では冬が旬のイチゴをクリスマスケーキに使っているそうです。

These are the shine muscat I was talking about, they're probably one of my top three favorite fruits.

これは私が言っていたシャインマスカットで、私の好きな果物のトップ3に入るかもしれません。

They're so juicy and so sweet and it kind of tastes like cotton candy.

とてもジューシーで、とても甘く、なんだか綿菓子のような味わいです。

Mm so good.

うん、すごくいい。

Alright guys, I'm gonna finish my fruit plate here and then I think we're heading to another on site Next.

さて、みんな、このフルーツプレートを食べ終わったら、次の現場へ向かおうね。

So this is camino, Yama Castle Foot Bath area and while you're sitting with your feet in the water you can see a really nice view of the whole city.

ここはカミーノ、山城の足湯のエリアで、水に足を浸して座っていると、街全体が見渡せるとてもいい景色なんです。

It's so gorgeous and they have a little shop down at the bottom there that sells local foods.

とても豪華で、そこの一番下に小さなお店があって、地元の食材を売っているんです。

They've got some warm stuff and we ordered some tomato that's a lot of karoshi.

暖かいものもあるし、カロシが多いトマトを注文しました。

She's put on there.

彼女はそこに載せています。

That's going to be very very spicy.

すごく辛くなりそうですね。

But mm so I'm having lunch here at Umeda which is a really popular restaurant in the area.

でも、今、梅田でランチを食べているんですが、ここは本当に人気のあるレストランなんですよ。

If you want to get a reservation here, you should do it early.

ここで予約を取りたいなら、早めにしたほうがいい。

They request that you do it by phone so it might be a little difficult for some of you guys but the food looks absolutely amazing and I can see why it's so popular.

電話でお願いしているので、ちょっと難しいかもしれませんが、お料理がとても美味しそうで、人気があるのも納得です。

So this is a macrobiotic restaurant.

ここはマクロビオティックのレストランなんですね。

I honestly have no idea what that meant.

正直なところ、その意味がわからない。

So I googled it a little bit and apparently it just means that it's all very healthy whole foods that are locally grown, no pesticides, no additives.

そこで少しググってみたところ、どうやら地元で採れた無農薬・無添加の健康的な食材ばかりということのようです。

It's flavored with really simple things like salt, pepper, miso paste like that.

味付けは、塩、コショウ、味噌など、本当にシンプルなものです。

So basically it's just a very healthy meal using local ingredients and it just looks and smells so amazing.

地元の食材を使ったヘルシーな料理で、見た目も香りもとてもいいんです。

So I'm gonna dig in now and see how it tastes.

だから、今すぐ掘って、味を確かめたいんだ。

This one looks like a wagon.

こちらはワゴンのような形をしていますね。

She, to me, I'm very intrigued by this one.

彼女、私にとっては、とても興味をそそられる作品です。

Oh, just like usual.

ああ、いつものようにね。

Mm I think it was a sweet potato but it was flavored with yuzu so it kind of tastes like candy.

うーん......サツマイモだと思うんだけど、柚子で味付けしてあるから、なんだかお菓子みたいな味がするんだよね。

The owner told me that 80% of the ingredients they use are grown by their family.

オーナーによると、使っている食材の8割は家族で育てたものだそうです。

That's amazing.

すごいですね。

All the vegetables are super local and you can tell they're really, really fresh.

野菜はすべて地元産で、本当に新鮮なのがわかります。

They're really tasty.

本当においしいんですよ。

They also have a lot of sweets um which is one of my favorite japanese series.

また、私の好きな日本シリーズの一つであるスイーツUmもたくさんあります。

They have some smoothies.

スムージーもあるそうです。

Lots of traditional japanese stuff that's kind of tweaked to fit a macrobiotic diet.

日本の伝統的なものを、マクロビオティックの食事に合わせてアレンジしたものがたくさんあります。

Very cool.

とてもクールです。

I wanted to bring you guys to one last season before I make the trip back to Morioka.

盛岡に戻る前に、最後のシーズンを皆さんにお届けしたいと思います。

This is also in the camino Yama area.

So as you can see the water is clear and lichens.

だから、ご覧のように水は澄んでいるし、地衣類もある。

Oh and this is supposed to be a public bath.

ああ、ここは銭湯のはずなんだけどな。

Normally there would be lots of other people in here with me.

いつもなら、他にもたくさんの人が一緒にいるはずなんです。

But it's a really quiet day for the broken.

でも、壊れたのは本当に静かな日なんです。

So they let me film in here for a little bit so I can show you guys there are lots of different types of baths here in the area.

そこで、この地域にはいろいろな種類のお風呂があることを皆さんに紹介するために、少し撮影させてもらいました。

So if you're not comfortable with a big open public setting like this one, you can rent a broken room like I did last night.

だから、今回のような大きなオープンな公開の場が苦手な人は、昨夜の私のように壊れた部屋を借りればいいのです。

And if you're lucky you can get a room with a bath included.

運が良ければバスタブ付きの部屋に泊まれるしね。

But they also have the cash pd option, which means you can rent them out for an hour and have the place all to yourself.

でも、キャッシュpdというオプションもあるので、1時間だけ借りて独り占めすることも可能です。

So there's really something for everybody.

だから、誰もが楽しめるんです。

And I really really recommend that you guys come up to North Japan and enjoy on sin in the middle of winter because it couldn't be any better than this.

そして、真冬の北日本で、これ以上のものはないというほど、罪深い時間を過ごすことをお勧めします。
