Hey, it's Coach Tief with Tips4Running.com and I'm going to address one of the biggest
questions I get about running. Can I run to lose weight? Well, yes of course you can.
There's three things that you've got to be aware of when you're trying to run to lose
weight. The first and probably the most important is the more you run, the better a chance you
have to lose weight. You have to be consistent with it. When I was a freshman in high school,
I was very skinny, but I still lost ten pounds when I joined the cross country team from
the start of the year to the finish. It's just because I stayed consistent with my running,
so number one is, the more you run, the better chance you have to lose weight. The second
thing, and people ignore this a lot, is the intensity of your runs. So if you go out three
times a week, and you run really slow for a short amount of time, you're probably not
going to get a lot of weight loss. If you want to ramp up the intensity though, and
run harder, you burn more calories for a more intense workout. So, if are someone that only
wants to do thirty minutes of time, but want to see major results, start slow, but gradually
build yourself up to where you can run more distance in that thirty minutes of time. You
can also do different workouts where you run hard, and then jog for a little bit, run hard
again and jog for a little bit. So up the intensity of your workouts is the second way
that you can help yourself lose weight by running. The third thing is, is watch what
you put into your body. I don't like to say anything about fancy diets or anything like
that. The main thing you can do to help you lose weight is eat more fruits and vegetables,
and less of everything else. It's pretty much that simple. So, once again, if you want to
run to lose weight, be consistent with your running. That's number one. Number two, look
at the intensity of your running. See if you can ramp up the intensity and work hard, and
third, always watch what you eat. Good luck. I hope you can lose some weight running. If
you want, you can look at the links below. I have my own free programs. Start Walking,
Get Running, Lose Weight. Also, I'd like to give a shout out to all my "Mo Bros". I'm
growing a moustache which I really don't like, but it's for a good cause. You can look at
some links down below about that too, so good luck, and happy trails.
