And these are my five biggest lessons, my first lesson to aspiring producers is this believe in yourself and pursue your passion.

Well that might sound very trite and like a motherhood statement, it really takes tremendous courage and a certain amount of stubbornness to do this.

Um in my past when I was a writer, I started off as a writer, but I really wanted to direct, I wanted to be a director, but I remember my boss told me, don't just stick to writing, I don't think you can make it as a good director had I believed him, I wouldn't have achieved what I've achieved today.

私の過去の経歴を振り返ると、最初は脚本家としてスタートしましたが、本当は監督になりたかったのです。しかし、上司に「脚本だけにこだわるな、君は良い監督になれないと思う」と言われたことを覚えています。

Um winning multi uh you know, uh directing awards.

複数の......つまり、監督賞を受賞しています。

So if you really have a passion for something, my advice to you is please follow it if you believe in it, you know enough.

ですから、もしあなたが本当に何かに情熱を持っているなら、私からのアドバイスは、あなたがそれを信じているなら、それに従ってください、あなたは十分に知っています。

Um because you see the same boss who told me that I couldn't direct was the same one who told me a few months ago during an event that, you know, you're one of the, you know, top directors in Singapore.

というのも、私に「監督はできない」と言った上司は、数ヶ月前のイベントで私に「君はシンガポールのトップディレクターの一人だ」と言った人でもあるのです。

So go go with your passion.

だから、自分の情熱を持って行動してください。

My second lesson to aspiring producers.

プロデューサーを目指す人たちへの2つ目の教訓です。

Is this be curious, be authentic.

好奇心旺盛であること、本物であることです。

Um I always tell my my stuff, read widely, Watch White.

私はいつも自分の作品に「広く読め、白く見ろ」と言っています。

They don't stick to just one kind of content in that way.

そのように一つのコンテンツにこだわることはありません。

This this kind of curiosity will, will stand you in good state when you start to create our own stories.

このような好奇心は、自分の物語を作り始めるときに、良い状態にしてくれます。

So your stories won't be derivative.

だから、あなたの物語は二次創作にはならない。

So be very curious also in getting to know people.

だから、人を知ることにも好奇心を持ってください。

So in a lot of our shows the in depth research that we do, talking to lawyers, talking even to murderers, even to politicians and so forth.

多くの番組では、弁護士に話を聞いたり、殺人者に話を聞いたり、政治家に話を聞いたりと、綿密な調査が行われています。

All these help to make our story more authentic.

これらはすべて、私たちのストーリーをより確かなものにしてくれます。

My foot lesson is this do not produce anything that you'd be embarrassed to show your loved ones.

私の教訓は、「大切な人に見せるのが恥ずかしいようなものは作らない」ということです。

Well, this might seem a very industry specific kind of lesson.

これは非常に業界特有のレッスンに見えるかもしれませんね。

It is not is basically what it all means is do something that you find worthy that is worth while your time.

そうではなくて、基本的には自分の時間を使って価値のあることをするということです。

So if work is such a big part of her life, if you do something you do not believe in, it becomes such such a bore, such a treasury.

だから、仕事が彼女の人生の大きな部分を占めている場合、自分が信じていないことをすれば、それはそのような退屈な、そのような宝物になります。

Whereas if you find something worthwhile, it will keep us going in tough times.

And for me I'm always very grateful but that my team was always behind me.

They buy into what to this philosophy and they create things that they truly believe in, which makes the difference.

Um for all content, I feel my fault lesson is just put money on the screen.

So again, this might sound like a very, you know, production industry kind of lesson.

また、これは非常にプロダクション業界のようなレッスンに聞こえるかもしれません。

But what it means is you put money into things that reap the most benefit.

Um So for example, in our, in our industry, what we do is we try to, in terms of like scheduling a shoot, for example, we try to consolidate all the scenes within one location on the same day because every day I shoot causes thousands if not tens of thousands.

例えば、私たちの業界では、撮影のスケジュールを立てる際には、すべてのシーンを同じ日に1つの場所にまとめるようにしています。

And so if we spend time traveling from one location to another, loading and unloading, there'll be less time for us to fine tune acting too, you know to have more creative shots.

So in that sense, you know, really put money on the screen, spend your money wisely, such that it will give you the best product.

My last lesson is this if you think your job is easy, you do not know your job.

私の最後の教訓は、もしあなたが自分の仕事が簡単だと思っているなら、あなたは自分の仕事を知らないということです。

This is actually a code that's uh said to me by one of my ex bosses and I feel what it means is this in any role that you take on in life, There's always ways to be better whether you're a homemaker or even a garbage collector, there's always ways to improve in the job.

これは、私の元上司が私に言った言葉なのですが、この言葉の意味するところは、人生でどんな役割を担っていても、主婦であろうとゴミ収集員であろうと、仕事を改善する方法は必ずあるということだと思います。

And I think as humans, happiness does not come from other people or objects, happiness comes from achievement.

そして、人間としての幸せは、他人や物から来るものではなく、達成感から来るものだと思います。

So the minute that you find a job easy, that means you are at a plateau.

だから、楽な仕事を見つけた瞬間に、それはあなたがプラトーにいることを意味します。
