Trains are better than airplanes. - サラは? - 飛行機よりいい Today we're going to Hakone, an area famous for it's volcanic activity and views of Mt Fuji. 富士山の麓 箱根へ行きます This trip is extra special because we're not driving this time, 今回は運転しないので but taking the train system all the way there with friends. 友達と一緒です What did you draw Joshua? We bought the Hakone pass, and with this one ticket we board all the different trains, ropeways, ships and buses we will need for this excursion. 回った! There's something magical about leaving Tokyo by train, entering the Japanese countryside and catching glimpses of Mt Fuji along the way. 箱根パスのお陰で 箱根の様々な交通機関を使えます So cool. So pretty. 都心から郊外へ移ろう車窓は格別です Look, there's the mountain ridge and then there's Mt Fuji behind it. It's got some clouds hanging out. 綺麗! What? What is this shirt? 尾根の向こうに 富士山が見えるよ Dad Joke? More like...rad joke. そのシャツは? That's the bullet train? オヤジギャグ? いけてるギャク? Nope, thats another romance car. 新幹線? That's like the train that we're on, but it's red. 別のロマンスカーだよ Once you reach the town of Hakone it's time to switch trains to a small local train line called the Hakone Tozan line. 赤い車体だね Whoa guys. We're on the next train. 箱根湯本で 登山線に乗り換えます This train line snakes up the mountain side, quickly gaining altitude and giving you some great views along the way. 乗り換えたね A unique aspect of this line is that there are a number of stations on the track where you come to a complete stop 山を登る途中で 景色も楽しめます and then head backwards, switching tracks and heading further up the mountain. スイッチバックしながら 山を登ります Sarah, we're going to be in the front now. The train turns around on the tracks here, look. Isn't that cool? 駅も複数あります What's happening? 今度はこっちが先頭だよ We're going to start going straight here. どう? Here we go! 発車するよ Up, up, up, up, up. いくよ! Ok, 1, 2, 3. 美味しい昼食の後は 芦ノ湖のボートです After we had a nice lunch and plenty of wind, it was time to head down the back side of the mountain, 山を下ります down to where a boat was waiting to take us across Lake Ashi. 特別なボートです But this was no normal boat. みんな!カッコいいね! Alright! Look at this guys. That's cool. いいね! Alright guys! 大変だ!ドアが開いたままだ! Oh my goodness. We have to go with the door open. Oh no, it's closing. ギリギリだったね! That was a close call. ドア閉まらないと大変! With all these kids, we want the door closed! 曇りがちだね Oh, and there's the mountain you just can't quite see today. - 日本のロープウェイの数は? - 170台 John looked it up. He found out how many ropeways are in Japan. 170! 170 ropeways 何台制覇したかしら? 170! - 確かに! - 制覇しよう! How many have we been on? - 170台に乗る - 覚えておこう That's a good question. That's our goal! 富士山! Oh man! 海賊船がいますが 心配いりません Lake Ashi is a crater lake formed in the caldera of Mt Hakone which last erupted in 1170. チケットしか取り上げられません This super scenic lake is traversed by pirate ships, but don't worry. 船尾からの眺めは絶景です The only money they steal from you is in the ticket upgrades they offer to ride in the front of the boat. またね! Yeah, it's great. Beautiful day. アナ ここは素敵だね? Walkways connect the downtown strip with lots of fun shops and restaurants. 一休みしよう Oh Anna, this is quite a cool place, huh? - いいね - カメラ使っていい?
