And in this video, we're going to talk about  how to describe the cost or price of something. 

そしてこのビデオでは、何かのコストや価格をどのように表現するかについてお話します。

Now, this is important to people  like me who like shopping, right. 

さて、これは私のように買い物が好きな人にとっては重要なことですよね。

So, for example, I like  shopping especially for dresses. 

例えば、私は特にドレスを買うのが好きです。

So I might say the cost of  this dress is affordable. 

だから、このドレスのコストは手頃だと言えるかもしれません。

Okay. This dress is affordable. 

いいですね。このドレスはお手頃価格です。

'affordable' means that this  dress is not too expensive. 

手頃な価格」とは、このドレスが高すぎないことを意味します。

I have enough money and I can pay for this dress. I have enough money. 

I have enough money and I can pay for this dress.十分なお金を持っています。

I can buy this dress. So I would say this dress is affordable. 

このドレスを買うことができる。なので、このドレスはお手頃価格と言えるでしょう。

I can also say this dress is inexpensive. We all know what expensive is but we say  

また、このドレスは安価であると言えます。私たちは高価なものが何かを知っていますが、私たちは

inexpensive so that's the opposite of expensive. 

inexpensiveなので、expensiveの反対ですね。

'affordable' and 'inexpensive'  have very similar meanings. 

affordable」と「inexpensive」は非常に似た意味を持っています。

Again, I have enough money to buy this. It's not too expensive. 

今回も、これを買えるだけのお金があります。高すぎるということはありません。

Then, we have 'cheap'. This dress is cheap. 

続いて、「安い」です。このドレスは安い。

Now, 'cheap' is similar, it means it's not  expensive, but it's a little bit more negative. 

さて、「安い」も似たようなもので、高価ではないという意味ですが、もう少しネガティブな表現です。

If you say that something is cheap,  people may think that the quality  

安い」と言えば、「品質が悪い」と思われるかもしれません。

is not very good. It's not very nice. 

はあまりよくありません。あまりいいものではありません。

Okay. Now, let's look at the opposite. 

そうですか。では、その逆を見てみましょう。

The opposite of these words is 'expensive'. This dress is expensive.

これらの言葉の反対語は「高価な」です。このドレスは高価です。

It costs a lot of money, and too much money. Maybe, I don't want to buy it. 

お金もかかるし、お金がかかりすぎる。もしかしたら、買いたくないかもしれません。

We can also say 'overpriced'. This dress is overpriced. 

また、「overpriced」と言うこともできます。このドレスは値段が高い。

That means the price is too high. 

つまり、価格が高すぎるということです。

So, again, I don't want to buy this  dress, it's too expensive and overpriced. 

だから、繰り返しになりますが、私はこのドレスを買いたくありません。高すぎるし、値段も高すぎます。

Okay. Let's look at some more examples together.

we say 'affordable'.

私たちは「手頃な価格」と言っています。

Okay. Something is affordable if it's not too expensive. 

そうですか、高すぎなければ手頃な価格ですね。

On the other hand, if something is not affordable,

逆に、何かが手に入らなければ

if the cost is very high,

コストが非常に高ければ

we  say 'expensive' or 'overpriced'.

高価な」とか「値段が高い」とか言います。

For me, I think some brands like  H&M and Forever 21 are affordable. 

私の場合は、H&MやForever 21などの一部のブランドがお手頃価格だと思います。

Some people don't think this way. They think it's cheap. 

このような考え方をしない人もいます。安いと思っている。

Sometimes, yes, some of the items can be cheap.

時には、そう、一部のアイテムが安くなることもあります。

But for me, I like those brands because they are affordable.

でも、私にとっては、それらのブランドは手頃な価格なので気に入っています。

Another store that I like in Korea,

また、韓国で好きなお店があります。

it's called Zara or Jara in Korea as they say.

韓国ではZARA、JARAと呼ばれているそうです。

They have some items that are affordable and some items that are very expensive.

手頃な価格のアイテムもあれば、とても高価なアイテムもあります。

Too expensive for me to buy.

私には高すぎて買えません。
