A lot of the time I hear my students say things like, 'I tell him already.'

しょっちゅう 僕の生徒が こんなことを言うのを耳にします 「私はすでに彼に言う」

'I tell him already.'

「私はすでに彼に言う」

And what's wrong with this sentence?

さて この文の何がおかしいのでしょうか？

Why is it not okay?

どうして 良くないのでしょう？

Because we have 'tell', which is a present tense verb, right?

なぜなら "tell (言う)" になっているから　これは現在形ですよね？

And then we have 'already', which is something that happened in the past.

それから "already(すでに)" もあります　これは何かが過去に起こったということ

So we've got present tense, and then we've got past tense coming together, like this.

つまり 現在形と過去形が こんなふうに一緒になっているんです

They don't go together.

この 2 つは一緒には用いられません

If you say this, yes a native speaker will understand you, but it's not the correct grammar.

そう言ったとしても ネイティブの話者は理解してくれるでしょう　ただ文法的には正しくありません

So when you're speaking English, always try and make your sentences go together.

英語を話す特は 常に時制が一致するように文を作るようにしましょう

For example, present and present.

例えば 現在形には現在形

But if you use past and present, it will be like this.

過去形と現在形を同時に使うと こんなふうになります

It won't go together.

( 時制が）一致していません

Okay so how can we fix this sentence? 'I tell him already.'

よし それでは この文はどんなふうに直せるでしょうか？ 「私はすでに彼に言う」

The first thing we could do is to not use the word 'already'.

まずできるかなということは "already (すでに)" という単語を使わないこと

We could just say 'I tell (him*)'.

ただ 「私は (彼に) 言う」とできます

And what does this mean?

それでは これは何を意味するのか？

Well, it's a present simple sentence, so it's probably a habit or a routine, something that happens all the time.

そうですね 現在形なので おそらく習慣や日課 しょっちゅう起こることを意味しています

Past, present and future.

過去　現在　未来

And how can we fix this sentence to make this sentence say that it was one thing that happened in the past?

それではこの文はどう直せるでしょう？　あることが過去に起こったという文にするんです

Well, we could say, 'I told him already.'

そうですね こう言うことができます「私はすでに彼に言った (told)」

This sentence means this action is finished, and it was only one action which happened in the past.

この文は その行動が完了したことを意味します そして過去に起こったのはその 1 つの行動だけということ

Only one time.

1 度だけです

This is the kind of knowledge you need if you want to understand English like a native speaker.

このような知識が必要なんです 英語をネイティブ話者のように理解したければね

You need to see a sentence and know the meaning.

文を読んでその意味が分からなければいけない

Is it talking about the past?

これは過去について話しているのか？

The present? How many times?

現在？何回？

Once you start to understand the meaning of English sentences like this, this is when you will start to understand English like a native speaker.

こんなふうに英語の文の意味を理解できるようになった時が ネイティブ話者のように英語を理解できるようになる時です

So just remember, when you're making sentences in English, the words have to go together.

ですから とにかく忘れないでください 英語の文を作る時 単語の時制は一致していなければなりません
