Of course, nice and easy: 'congratulations.'

もちろん 簡単で感じが良いのは "congratulations (おめでとう)" ですね

Okay, the pronunciation can be difficult, doesn't have to be; let's break it down.

そうですね 発音は難しいかも　でも必ずしもそうではありません　細かく分けていきましょう

'Cun' not 'Con'. 'Cun'.

/kən/ です /kon (コン)/ ではなく /kən/

'Gra'

/ɡræ/

There's a glottal stop at the end. 'Gra.' 'Gra.'

正門閉鎖音(つまった感じの音) が最後にきます　/ɡræ/　/ɡræ/

'Cungra'

/kənɡræ/

'Cha.'

/tʃə/

Again a schwa sound. 'Cha.'

ここでも曖昧母音/ə/です　/tʃə/

'Cungracha.' ' Cungracha.' 'lations.'

/kənɡrætʃə/　/kənɡrætʃə/　/leɪʃənz/

'Cun-gra-cha-lations.'

/kən - ɡræ - tʃə - leɪʃənz/

Say it with me. 'Cun-gra-cha-lations.'

ご一緒に　/kən - ɡræ - tʃə - leɪʃənz/

You are amazing, you are perfect.

素晴らしい　完璧です

In other situations, maybe that person did something really cool, and you want to say you are awesome.

他の状況だと 誰かがすごく良い感じのことをして その人にすごいねと言ってあげたいような場合

You did a cool thing.

かっこいいことしたねと言ってあげたい

This one you could also use these responses.

こんな時は こんなフレーズを使うことができます

'Well done.'

「よくやったね」

Or more casually, 'Nice one.'

もしくは もっとカジュアルなのは 「いいね」

Again, did you notice the pronunciation of that 'L'.

ここでも 発音についてお気づきでしょうか？　"L" についてです

I didn't say 'well done' - you can, you can, that's not wrong, but more commonly, more commonly this is what you hear in the real world - you hear 'well, well done, well done.'

/wel dʌn (ウェル ダン)/ではありません　いいんです　いいんですよ　間違いではないんです　でももっと一般的　もっと普通に言うと　実際の生活で耳にするのは　/weldʌn (ウェルダン)/　/weldʌn/ です

It's faster speech it's more casual...That's what you hear.

よりスピーディに言うんです　よりカジュアルな感じ　みんな そういうふうに言っていますよ

You can even combine them.

組み合わせて使うことも可能です

For example: 'Oh my God, I got a new job.' 'Nice one, well done.'

例えば「やった～　新しい仕事決まった」「いいね　よくやったね」　

Now you might hear this one.

さて こんなのも耳にするかもしれません

'Good for you.'

「良かったじゃん」

Just be careful when you use this.

このフレーズを使う時は とにかく気をつけてください

Why? Well, in the real world when you say this, your immediate thought is sarcasm.

なぜか？ 実際にこれを言うと　真っ先に思い浮かぶのは嫌味です

So it sounds like this: 'Good for you.'

こんな感じ　「良かったじゃん」

It doesn't sound sincere, it doesn't sound real, so, if you say 'good for you', first, probably don't say in a text because you can't read the context.

誠実に聞こえないし　嘘っぽく聞こえます　"good for you" という場合　まず スマホなどのメッセージで使うことはないでしょう　状況を読みにくいですから

Secondly, if you say in person make sure you sound genuine and sincere.

それから 直接相手に向かって言う場合は　本心で言っていると聞こえるように　誠実に言いましょう

Good for you.

良かったじゃん

I'm happy for you.

僕も嬉しいよ

You can modify this with, 'I'm really happy for you', or 'I'm so happy for you'.

こんなふうに変化を変化をつけることもできます　「僕も本当に嬉しいよ」とか 「僕もすごく嬉しいよ」

Reacting to bad news or good news.

悪い知らせや 良い知らせに対する反応

How can you react? How can you show sympathy, and how can you react in a positive way?

どんなふうに答えることができるでしょうか？どんなふうに共感の気持ちを示したり 良い感じに応対することができるでしょう？

Okay, your friend has bad news. How can you react?

そうですね 友人が残念な知らせをしてきたら どのように答えますか？

You need to show sympathy, so how can you do that?

相手を思いやる気持ちを示す必要があります　どうすれば良いのでしょう？

If there is a death, specifically, that's the sentence you need.

具体的に言うと 誰かが死んでしまったという場合は 次のような言葉が求められます

'I'm so sorry to hear that.'

「それはすごく残念だったね / ご愁傷様です」

That is the standard sentence.

これは一般的な表現

Um, if you want to add more to that, you could say: 'Oh that sucks, I'm sorry to hear that.'

えぇ 何かもっと付け加えたいなら こう言うこともできます　「それはがっかりだね　残念だったね」

Now yes, this word, 'sucks', that is informal. It is casual.

さて そうです　この "sucks" という言葉　フォーマルな言葉ではないんです　普段使いの言葉

But, if you're being genuine it's okay. If you're being sincere, that's okay.

でも　心から言っているなら大丈夫　誠実な態度であればオッケーです

However, don't use this in a formal situation because some people might think that you don't care.

ただし　フォーマルな場面では使わないでください　心遣いのない人物だと思う人もいるかもしれません

So, just be careful.

なので　気を付けてくださいね

For example, if that's your friend, you know each other, she knows that you care, that's good, but if that is, I don't know your boss or someone new, or someone older, they might not like that word, so just be careful.

例えば 相手が友人なら お互い知っているんだから あなたが気にかけていると分かっているので 大丈夫です　でも そうですね 相手が上司とか知り合ったばかりの人 目上の人だったら 嫌がるかもしれないので 気を付けてくださいね

'Oh mate, that's awful.'

「あぁ お前 それは大変だ」

So, in this one, we add a more personal feeling, right?

さて この表現には もっと個人的な気持ちが加わっていますね？

'Mate', we're showing that we're close to you.

"mate" これで相手に身近な人間であるということを表しています

'Mate' is a British term, it means friend, right?

"mate" はイギリス英語の表現で 友人であることを意味します

So, 'Mate that's awful'.

「お前 大変だな」

'Awful' means very, very bad. Terrible.

"awful" は すごく悪いことを意味します　ひどいという意味

Pronunciation: notice again I said that 'L' like in 'L' 'Awful.' 'Awful.'

発音ですが　ここでも注意してください "L" はこんなふうに言いました "L" の感じです　"/ɔːfəl/" "/ɔːfəl/"

Say with me, 'awful'. 'Mate that's awful.'

ご一緒に　"/ɔːfəl/"　" /meɪt, ðæts ɔːfəl/"

Good!

いいですね！

Okay, more positive news.

では もっとポジティブな話です

Your friend is going on holiday; how can you react? how can you say, 'Dude, yes'!

友人が休暇で旅行に出かけます　どんなふうに返事をしますか？何て言えばいいでしょう？「おい　やったじゃん！」

'No way!' It's a good reaction to good news... or bad news.

「うそ～！」これは良い話に対しても 悪い話に対しても使えるリアクションです

You could use this for bad news.

悪い話にも使えるんですよ

It's just, it's surprise, so it's good for any situation in which you are surprised.

驚きなんです　驚いた時ならどんな状況でも使えるんです

'That's awesome'!, or 'That is cool'!

「すごいじゃん」とか「いいじゃん」も使えます

Or finally, 'That's nuts'!

それか 最後になりますが「それヤバい！」

This one, you're adding more emotion, more surprise like, 'Wow, that's nuts'!

これには より強い感情 大きな驚きが込められています「おぉ！やっべ！」

'Nuts' means crazy, but in this context, it means that's crazy good.

"nuts" は "crazy (=どうかしている すごい)"という意味　ただしこの状況では 良い意味の "crazy" です
