So have you seen the interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle talking about their experience with The Royal Family, and did you understand everything?

さて、皆さんはハリー王子とメーガン妃が王室の生活について話したインタビューを見ましたか？見た人は全部理解出来ましたか？

So, in this lesson, we're going to look at some of the highlights from this interview, and we're going to break down the English language.

今回のレッスンでは、このインタビューからいくつかのハイライトを見ていきましょう。そして英語を細かく勉強したいと思います。

Are you ready? Let's take a look.

準備はできていますか？では、行きましょう。

So, were you thinking of harming yourself? Were you having suicidal thoughts?

では、自傷的な事を考えていたんですか？自殺とか？

-Yes, this was very, very clear. -Wow. -Very clear and very scary.

はい、この気持ちはハッキリしていました。「うわー」とっても明らかでとっても恐ろしかったです。

And you know, I didn't know who to even turn to in that.

そして、この事を誰に相談すればいいかも分からなかったんです。

So, in this part of the interview, they're talking about Meghan's suicidal thoughts and the idea of her harming herself.

さて、この箇所ではメーガン妃が自殺を辞さない想いを持っていて、自分を傷つけることも考えていたというインタビューです。

So, if you 'harm yourself', it's another way of saying 'hurting yourself'.

自傷行為というのは、自分を傷つけるということです。

And Meghan says she 'didn't know who to turn to'.

そして、メーガン妃は誰に相談すればいいかも分からなかった、と言っていますね。

If you 'don't know who to turn to', it means you 'don't know who to go to for help'.

これは、誰に助けを求めればいいか分からなかった、という意味です。

So, she had no help from anybody else in The Royal Family.

つまり、王室の中で誰からも助けを得られなかった、というわけです。

In those months when I was pregnant, all around this same time, so we have in tandem the conversation of you won't be given security, he's not going to be given a title

私が妊娠中の期間、ほぼずっと警護がつかず

And also, concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he's born.

称号も与えられない、そして生まれてきたら肌の色がどれだけ濃いのか懸念するとやりとりがあったんです。

So, in this part of the interview, Meghan is talking about when she was pregnant, and she says that they had in tandem the conversation over the baby's security and whether it would get a title.

さて、この箇所ではメーガンは自身が妊娠していた時の話をしていて、赤ちゃんの警護についてと、称号が与えられるかどうかについてたくさん会話が交わされたと言っています。

So, if you have a conversation 'in tandem', it means you have a conversation 'in motion'.

「conversation in tandem」というのは「conversation in motion」と一緒の意味で、

It's a conversation that is being talked about a lot in The Royal Family at that time.

当時の王室ではたくさんこの点について話されたということです。

A tandem bicycle is a bicycle with two seats, so two people can ride the same bicycle at the same time. 

タンデム自転車は 2 人分の椅子が付いている自転車ですから、同時に 2 人が乗れるわけです。

So, if the conversation is 'in tandem', it's spinning like the wheels of a bicycle.

ですから会話がタンデムという事は、自転車のタイヤが回転するみたいに頻繁だということですね。

She also says that a member of The Royal Family had a concern over the baby's skin color. 

また、王室が赤ちゃんの肌の色についても心配していたと触れています。

So, if you 'have a concern over something', it means 'you're worried about something' - Why they were worried? I don't know.

何かについて心配するというのは、心中穏やかでないわけですが、なせ心配していたのか…ボクには分かりませんね。

And you're not going to tell me who had the conversation.

その会話は誰としていたのかは教えてもらえないというわけですか。

I think that would be very damaging to them.

教えてしまったらダメージが大きいと思いますから。

And then Oprah asked, 'who was it?', 'who said this?', and Meghan won't tell Oprah because she says 'it will be damaging for them'. 

それからオペラは「誰ですか」「誰が言ったのか」と訊いたんですけど、メーガンはダメージが大きいからという理由で教えませんでした。

This means 'it will hurt or harm their reputation', 'it will damage them'.

ダメージがあるということは、世間からの目に悪い影響があるという意味です。

There's a lot to work through there you know I..., I feel really let down... because, he's been through something similar? 

取り組むべきことはたくさんありますよ…ボクは裏切られた感じがします。彼も似たような経緯をたどっていますからね？

So, in this part of the conversation, Harry is talking about his relationship with Prince Charles, his father, and he says 'there's a lot to work through'.

さて、ここではハリーは父であるチャールズ皇太子との関係について話していて、取り組むべきことはたくさんあると言っています。

That means 'there's a lot to sort out', 'a lot of things to fix'.

これは、解決すべき問題や修復すべき課題がたくさんあるという意味です。

He says he 'feels really let down'; that means he 'feels disappointed', and that he sympathizes with his father Prince Charles because he says he has gone through a lot as well, uh, a lot of similar experiences in his past

裏切られた気がすると言っていますから、ガッカリしているのでしょう。それから、父のチャールズ皇太子自身も似たようなことをたくさんくぐってきているから、ということで同情をしています。 過去にたくさん似たような経験があったわけですね。

So, if you 'go through something' it means 'you experience it'. 

ですから、くぐってきたという事は経験してきたという意味です。
