Once upon a time there lived a grandfather who was a farmer in a village.
He decided to grow a big delicious turnip and sowed a seed.
He gave the turnip hearty care every day.
After a while the turnip grew so big it was time to harvest.
But the turnip was too big for him to pull out from the ground by himself.
So he called the grandmother and asked for help.
The old farmer grabbed the huge turnip and then his wife grabbed his waist.
Both together pulled and pulled.
"Heave-ho! Heave-ho!"
The turnip didn't even move an inch.
Next, the grandmother called the grandson to help pull the turnip.
Here they were, the three of them pulling together as hard as they could.
"Heave-ho! Heave-ho!"
Still the turnip didn't move: not even one inch.
This time the grandson called the dog, and then the dog called the cat.
Everybody pulled together harder and harder.
The turnip just wouldn't budge.
There was nobody left to join the team except for a small mouse.
The cat called out to the small mouse,
"Please join our tug of war."
The small mouse pulled the cat
and the cat pulled the dog
and the dog pulled the grandson
and the grandson pulled the grandmother
and the grandmother pulled the grandfather farmer
and the old grandfather farmer pulled the huge turnip.
"Heave-ho! Heave-ho!" Pull the turnip; here we go!”
Surprise!
Finally, the turnip came out of the ground.
