And it makes sense, since it's a country filled with incredible places to visit!

One of them, considered by many as the  main symbol of Japan, is Mount Fuji.

その 1 つは、多くの人が日本のシンボルとして考えているところ。富士山です。

Mount Fuji is located on the island of Honshu,  at about 100 kilometers west from Tokyo.  

富士山は本州にあり、東京の西方100㎞ほどのところに位置しています。

Its surrounding environment  is very wild and natural, and nearby you can find the lakes Kawaguchi,  Yamanaka, Motosu, Shoji and Sai.

野生や自然に囲まれ、すぐそばに河口湖、山中湖、本栖湖、精進(しょうじ)湖、西(さい)湖があります。

The mountain is located within the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National  park, the most visited park in the country.

富士山のある富士箱根伊豆国立公園は、日本でも最も多くの人が訪れる公園。

Mount Fuji is the tallest in all of Japan,  3,776 meters tall!

富士山は日本で 1 番高く、その標高は 3,776 ｍ！

And did you know that this mountain is also an active volcano?

この山が活火山でもあることはご存知でしたか？

This means that it shows signs of continuous activity, and has erupted at one point during the last  10,000 years.

つまり、富士山は継続的な火山活動の兆候を見せているということ。過去 1 万年の間に噴火したことがあるんです。

In this case, Mount Fuji's most recent eruption was named the Great Hōei Eruption  – it occurred during the Edo Period in 1707, and they say it lasted for about two  weeks!

富士山のもっとも最近の噴火は、宝永(ほうえい)大噴火と呼ばれています。1707 年、江戸時代に噴火し、 2 週間ほど続いたと言われています！

Mount Fuji is one of the three  sacred mountains of Japan, which is why it's so common to find it in Japanese  paintings and literature throughout the centuries.  

富士山は、日本三霊山の 1 つに挙げられてます。だから、何世紀にもわたって日本画や文学にその姿を現すことが多いんです。

It has served as a source  of inspiration for hundreds of artists who have represented its  snowy silhouette in numerous works,  

数多くの芸術家のひらめきの源となってきました。彼らは、多数の作品で雪景色の姿を制作しています。

the most significant of these being "Thirty-six  Views of Mount Fuji", a series of landscape prints made by the painter Hokusai during the Edo Period,  a time that really marked the history of Tokyo.  

そういった作品の中で最も大きな影響を与えているのが『富嶽(ふがく)三十六景』で、江戸時代の絵師、北斎によって制作された風景版画集です。江戸時代は、東京の歴史が深く刻まれた時代でした。

The mountainside of this volcano is filled with elements very representative of Japanese culture, such as Buddhist sanctuaries.

富士山の山腹は、日本の文化を象徴する要素がいっぱい。仏教の聖地などがあるんです。

In fact, samurais  would carry out their training at the foot of the mountain, believing that doing so would channel the strength the mountain transmitted to them.

実際に、侍たちが山のふもとで修業を行っていました。そうすることで、富士山の力が自分たちに注がれると彼らは信じていたのです。

It was precisely those samurais who also had a lot to do with the name of this mountain:  

さらに言うと、侍たちは、富士山の名前にも大きく関係しています。

Its name comes from the Chinese  characters "fu-ji". "Fu" means "wealth", while "ji" is the Chinese reading of "samurai".

名前を漢字で書くと「富士」ですが、「富」は「豊かさ」を表し、「士」は「さむらい」とも読みます。

  Finally, the kanji for "san", or "mountain", was added to end up forming the word  "Fuji-san".

そして、「山」という感じが付け加えられ、「富士山」という呼び名になったのです。

In some Spanish-speaking countries, some people also refer to Mount Fuji as  "Fujiyama", but that term is incorrect.

スペイン語圏の国々では、富士山のことを「フジヤマ」と言う人もいますが、その表現は誤りなんです。

As you can see, tiktakers, this more than 100,000-year-old place is filled with beauty and spirituality!

ティックタッカーの皆さんもお分かりのように、10 万年も生きてきたこの山は、美しさと神秘にあふれています。

And because of this, in 2013  it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.  

そして、その美しさと神秘性のおかげで、2013 年、富士山はユネスコに世界遺産として認定されました。

So, if you are not afraid of heights,  and you're thinking about visiting Japan, you can usually climb Mount  Fuji during July and August.  

ということで、高いところなんて怖くないという方、それから、日本に行こうと考えている方は、通常は 7 月と8 月に富士登山をすることが可能ですよ。

It is calculated that each year about 300,000 people climb to the summit, and many Japanese people promise to themselves to climb Mount Fuji at least once in their lives.

毎年、推定 30 万もの人が頂上を目指して登っているとされていますし、多くの日本人も、一生に一度は富士山に登りたいと思っているんです。
