Specifically, the inference questions.

Inference questions ask the listener

推論の質問は聞き手に問いかける

to show an understanding of the meaning of something

意味がわかる

when it is not directly stated in the lecture or conversation.

講義や会話の中で直接述べられていない場合。

You can recognize inference questions

推論問題を認識できる

because they use phrases like

のようなフレーズを使うからです。

"What are the implications of ...?",

"何の意味があるのか...？"

"What does the professor imply...?"

"教授は何を暗示しているのか..."

or "What can be inferred...?"

とか「何が推理できるのか...？

Let's look at a sample question from a literature lecture about

についての文献講義で出題例を見てみましょう。

detective novels, including a famous one called The Moonstone.

月の石と呼ばれる有名なものを含む探偵小説。

First, here is an excerpt from the lecture:

まず、講義の抜粋です。

PROFESSOR: Um, so in The Moonstone, as I said,

教授：えーと、だから、ムーンストーンでは、私が言ったように。

uh, Collins did much to establish the conventions

コリンズは条約を確立するために多くのことをした

of the detective genre.

探偵ジャンルの

Uh, I'm not gonna go into the plot at length,

Now, Cuff, this extraordinarily important character um ...

well, let me try to give you a sense of who Sergeant Cuff is,

by first describing the regular police.

And uh this is the dynamic that you're going to see

throughout the history of the detective novel,

between the behavior of the regular police

and that of Sergeant Cuff.

This contrast is supported in other parts of the passage.

この対比は、このパッセージの他の部分でも支持されています。

For example, the speaker describes the regular police

as "bumblingly inept."

He also says it is common in detective novels for them

to be countered by a specific character,

in this case Sergeant Cuff, who is "brilliant".

Taken together, we can see that the best answer is A,

Sergeant Cuff is unlike the regular police in The Moonstone.

What words do the speakers use to support their ideas?

話し手は自分の考えを支えるためにどんな言葉を使っているのでしょうか？

Are the words mainly positive or negative?

その言葉は主にポジティブなのかネガティブなのか。

Then look at how they imply positive or negative ideas

次に、それらがどのようにポジティブまたはネガティブな考えを示唆しているかを見てみましょう。

without saying them directly.

There are lots of ways to improve your English skills.
