[Life in Japan Theme Song] 美しい奥さんの運転です Today I'm being chauffeured by the beautiful, illustrious Ruth Reutter. そうよ Yes, yes. あれが横浜駅だね Right over here we're going to have Yokohama station. 横浜は歴史ある国際都市です Yokohama is Japan's original international city, 開国期の自由港の一つです the first seaport for international trading to be opened after Japan's isolation era. 人口は350万人以上 日本第2位です With over 3.5 million people, it is the second largest city in Japan by population. 隣接するの東京の 都市域に含まれる事もあります It blends seamlessly into the larger urban sprawl of greater Tokyo and is included when counting Greater Tokyo's overall population. でも 横浜は特別です But make no mistake, Yokohama is a unique and special place all it's own. 市内に入ると分かります You can immediately tell when you enter Yokohama by car. 道路は整然として 綺麗な街並みです The roads system goes from a chaos resembling spaghetti on a plate to a methodical grid and block structure. 街中ドライブ!最高! Whoa girlfriend! City driver! Come on! 得意じゃないわよ Not my cup of tea. 手頃なホテルに泊まって 横浜を探検します We are visiting nearby Yokohama in typical Reutter family fashion, finding an affordable hotel and exploring new areas, 政府のルールに十分注意します staying within the confines of government regulations and recommendations during Covid. 閉まっている店も多いですが 新しい発見もあります While many things are closed or restricted, there are a number of new experiences to be had. 宿は… この先だね MyStays. Let's get in our car and go! 赤レンガ倉庫は税関施設でした 今は観光名所です Our exploration of Yokohama begins with the historical district where old and new meet in beautiful juxtaposition. 誰か来たの? Red brick warehouses that once served as customs buildings now serve as shops, museums and event spaces in this beautiful area. - そう - 何? You have a little visitor? - 誰? - ショップキンズ Yea. What is it? ショップキンズ? いいね! Who is it? It's a Shopkin. ルースが前から来たかった場所を 探検します It's a Shopkin? Cool! 土産店や特産品のお店が 入っています This is an area that Ruth has always wanted to explore more, and tonight we're just getting a taste of what it's like. 多くの店が撮影禁止なので 外観をお届けします Many shops fill the inside of these old buildings with novelties and specialties you'll only find here. ジョシュアは? You're a horsey!? 夏の夜にイベントがあったら 気持ち良いでしょう All kinds of attractions for shopping and dining fill this area, and they are all beautifully connected with ample scenic walkways. - 本物じゃない? - そう You can imagine how special this would be on a cool summer's evening with festivals and fireworks, bustling with people having a good time. 虫見てごらん Isn't it real, Daddy? Yes! 沢山いるね! Look at all those bugs in there. My goodness. 小さなライオン見つけた? That's a lot of bugs! どこで食べるの? Oh, did you find a little Lion? King of the jungle? - 腹ペコ! - お腹空いたの? Where are we going to eat? 美味しそうな夕食! I'm so hungry! So hungry? OK. パンケーキとオレンジジュース Look at the beautiful dinner! Oh my goodness. - アナ 美味しい? - うん! Some pancakes, yum! And Orange juice. 美味しい? ベッカも食べた? How is it, Anna? Good! まだ匂いだけ Good? Becca, have you even tried yours yet? バター欲しい No, I smell it though. It smells so good. 来ました!凄いです Yea, I want butter. これ乗りたい! Look what came for us. Oh my yes-ness. 楽しそう I want to go on this Roller coaster! カッコいいね? It looks pretty fun. みなとみらいの観覧車は 世界有数の大きさです That is really freakin' cool, huh guys? 世界最大の 時計機能付き大観覧車です The Minato Mirai area of Yokohama boasts the Cosmo Clock 21, one of the biggest Ferris wheels in the world. 完成直後に もっと高い観覧車が出来ました Clocking in at 108 meters, it held the record as the tallest Ferris Wheel, 誰か笑ってるわ only to be surpassed by another Japanese Ferris wheel shortly after it was built. 派手なアイボールみたい There's, I hear people laughing. サウロンの目 It's doing like a psychedelic flip-eye ball 寒かったので観覧車は断念して The eye of Sauron. 歩いて温まりました Since everyone was so chilly, we decided not to do the 15 minute car ride to the top and back, いつか来たいです! but to keep moving along and keep warm. 綺麗ね アニバーサリー? Hopefully we can get back here and try it sometime soon. アニバーサリー? 記念日に来ないと! That is beautiful! What is it? Anniversarie? 結婚式場です Anniversarie? We should come here for ours! 行くよ! It's a place for weddings — that's what we have discovered. 凄い Going going going going 高そう! Oh my goodness そうだね 綺麗な礼拝堂だね It's expensive! あれ見て I betcha it is expensive — it's a beautiful wedding chapel. ディズニーの結婚式場みたい Look at that place. 海沿いの綺麗な公園と ビルが美しいです It looks like a Disney-land for getting married. 日本では珍しいです Parks fill the seafront of Yokohama and add even more beauty to one of Japan's most iconic skylines. 水路と国際的な雰囲気が シカゴに似ています The open spaces between the skyscrapers is a rarity in Japan, 川沿いの都市です and that open feel mixed with the waterways and internationality of the city makes it feel like Chicago to me, 見て!多分… another iconic city along the water. まだ5時33分? Oh look! I think its... - そうだね - もう暗いの? Oh! It's still 5:33?! 5時半過ぎに思えない? I know! And it's already this dark? 7時かと思った It's already this dark. Doesn't it feel way later than 5:30? ママは? Well it didn't take us long to find a park right by the hotel. 近所の公園みたいだね This is fun! 遅い Hey Dude, are you going to do this one? Show me. 横浜といえば中華街です This is like the one at our park. 中華街! So slow. So slow? 日本一の中華街で 世界でも有数の規模です Do you know what else Chinatown is famous for? 横浜は日本の玄関口だったので Chinatown! 外国の文化が大きく広がりました Yokohama's Chinatown is the largest in Japan and one of the largest in the world. 居留地を中心に発展しました Since Yokohama become Japan's Front door to the world, 美味しそうだね it's only natural that one of the biggest settlement of foreigners, including Chinese, would happen here, 苺の飴があるわ especially because foreigners needed special permission to venture outside of this area. 楽しそうなお店が沢山あるね どこで食べようか? The food looks very authentic, doesn't it? あれ見て! Yeah- those are interesting candied strawberries. クッパの城みたいだね! They have so many shops with lots of good looking stuff. Where are we going to end up eating? 本物のお城かも?! Look at the end of the road! 後ろ向きに歩く It looks like Bowser's Castle down there, doesn't it? 後ろ向きで? ちゃんと見てね Ha ha! It's like a real Bowser's Castle, Dude! 裏路地です Yeah. I'm just walking backwards. 何食べる? You're walking backwards now? OK watch where you're going, watch where you're going! 苺ね OK tiny street, here we go. 甘い苺よ お財布出して What are you going to get? ワーオ! It's a strawberry. Strawberry one? 隣はパパが好きそうです It's sweet Strawberry. Can I have money? Yes. 唐揚げとポテト? Whoa! ベッカ 美味しい? Mmmmmm. 美味しそう And right next to it is something that looks good to Daddy. これ食べる人?サラは? Should I get some Karege and some French fries? チキンフライです Yes. Is it good, Becca? スパイシーよ Oh! It looks good. 辛い味付けだね Who else is going to try it now? OK Sarah, why don't you try it real quick. - ベッカは? - 辛い Well we ordered some chicken, some big chickens and fries, 旨辛い? It's got chili powder on it! パパは好きだよ 食べたい人? It's got chili powder and they are spicy, whew! - 辛いの? - 少しね How is it, Becca? Spicy. これ見て Spicy, but good? Yea. 後ろ向いて I like it. Anyone want to try a bite of Daddy's huge chicken? 可愛い? Is it spicy? A little bit. It's hot. - 欲しい? - つけてみたい Look, let me show you on her. 中華街でお土産探しです Move. Turn around, please. サラ 後ろ向いて Isn't that pretty? Whoa. 可愛い飾り! Should we buy some? Yea, let's buy it and wear it right now. アナも飾りを見せてくれる? We're getting some fun souvenirs here from Chinatown. いいね What did you get Sarah? Turn your head and let me see. ベッカもいいね Oh, that's so pretty! - それ何? - 髪飾りよ And Anna's getting one now. Anna can you turn your head and let me see? 女の子だけだね Very nice. 面白いお店だったね Very nice Rebecca. - 寒い - ママもよ 行きましょう What are those things? Hair things. 辛い物を食べて 喉が渇きました Hair things. Not for us, Dude. 三ツ矢! Well, that was a fun little shop. That was. 中華風の自動販売機です I'm cold. I'm cold too, let's go! - アップルティー? - いいね Everyone ate spicy food and now we're all thirsty. パパはアップルティー Oh Mitsuya, Mitsuya! ママ 行きつけのお店 Do you want Apple Tea Nate? Yes please. 業務スーパーがありました Apple Tea for Daddy! この辺の店の皆が買ってるかな Look what we found... Mommy's favorite grocery store 次の場所に行くよ Gyomu Super, right by Chinatown. 何があるかな I'm sure they're selling food to all the vendors here. うるさいから魔法をかけたの… Alright, now it's time for our next excursion. (子供達の笑い声) Where will we go? What will we see? 出して! They were being too noisy so I said "Skidadily-do" 出発するよ 大きな滑り台に行くよ (Kids laughing) 横浜には良い公園が 沢山あります Let me out! 金沢自然公園の 滑り台に来ました OK, should we get ready to go now? We're going to go to the big park with a big slide. 子供と旅行する時は 途中で公園で思い切り遊ばせます Yokohama is home to some truly beautiful parks, 巨大な滑り台があるよ! and we've come to Kanazawa Natural Park to see if their roller slide is one of the best in Japan. ここが現在地 どうしようか? When traveling with kids, it's good to let them get their energy out at fun parks along the way. この道はつまらなさそう There's where we want to go: massive slide. 山を通っていく? And there's where we are, so what do we have to do? つまらない道はどう? We can go over here the boring way, or... The boring way! 何で? Or walk down that huge mountain side? 楽しいと思うよ I think we want to go the "boring" way. 巨大滑り台? What? Why? そうだよ It's not going to be boring. - 滑り台の王様? - そうだね! Are you going on the massive slide? 前のより大きいかな Yes we are. どう思う? The "Master" slide? The "Master" slide. どうかな I wonder if it's going to be bigger than the other one we just did? だいぶ長そうだね What do you think? It's longer than the other one? 工事中だって! これの為に来たのに! No. 他で遊ぼう! It looks like a long slide. We're about to find out. ここがスタート地点です Look- it's under construction, the big roller slide, the whole reason we came! 先日の滑り台より大きそうです Ohhh. But we still can have fun! また来ないと Look, there's the start of the slide, and then it goes down, down, down... この前の方が大きかった This may be bigger than the other one we just did now チーズ! But I don't know, we'll have to come back and see, huh? 面白そうだね I think the other one is longer. ベッカだよ Cheese! (Imitates camera shutter sound) アナもだね We found some fun things to climb on. サラも頑張ってるね Becca did it. 僕もだよ Anna did it — almost. ジョシュア 上手だね Sarah's in the process of doing it... 険しい坂です I'm in the process... Well that was a fun park. ホテルの周辺を散策します It will be way more fun with the slides open. 面白そうなお店です Going up! - ルース 見た? - 見たわよ We're exploring close to our hotel now. また業務スーパー There's some fun-looking stores here. 業務スーパーの牙城かな? Girlfriend, did you see? I did. そうかも Another Gyomu. 横浜は商店街も多いです I wonder... do you think this is Gyomu land, where they all started? 今夜は伊勢佐木町の Maybe? Maybe not. イセザキ・モールを散策します Yokohama has a number of pedestrianized streets that are dedicated to commerce. 長いので全部は見れませんでした Tonight we're checking out two, starting with the Isezaki Mall, イルミネーションもあって賑やかです a long shopping street with local & International stores, restaurants and outlets. これは凄い It went on so long we didn't even make it to the beginning, as we came in at the end near our hotel. 帰り道も楽しそうです The shopping streets are marked with decorative markers to let you know you can buy, buy, buy. その後 横浜橋商店街に行きました Oh this is cool in here now. 130以上の商店が集まる アーケードです This will be fun on the way back too — we'll have to walk back this way. 活気ある雰囲気です! After grabbing a bite to eat, we headed over to the Yokohamabashi Shopping District, 見てごらん ドアがスクリーンになってるね a bustling covered shopping gallery lined with over 130 stores & stalls selling, fresh & prepared foods. カッコいいね The atmosphere was vibrant and fun, we loved it! 開けたい Look at their door here! Their whole door is a screen that lights up. 魚屋さんがあるね Isn't that cool? 凄い! Can I try opening it? 魚の生臭い匂いが苦手 There's a cool little fish market here — all kinds of stuff in here. - 今夜のおやつかな - みかん? The is cool! りんごが安いです I don't like it because it smells like fish. The smell? どうだった? (Market noise & conversation) ブラジルの市場を思い出したわ It will be a yummy snack tonight. Mikans? Right here. 魚や果物 野菜に洋服屋さん Whoa — that's a really good price on apples. いい商店街ね What did you think there, Zoot? そうだね So it reminded me a lot of the markets in Brazil さあ 帰るよ Where you have fish and fruit and veggies and random clothing stores... 戻りました It was a really cool shopping street. 飲み物? Yeah, that was a cool street. ゲームしてた Alright guys, now time to head back. 上着脱がない? 暑くない? And we're back at the hotel. 暑いのがいいの Enjoying some drinks, right? 皆で映画! I was playing a game. 皆 楽しそうだね Do you want to take off your jacket, Dude? Aren't you hot? 動画のコメント見てたんだけど No. I want to be hot. "日本語で夢を見ますか?" Movie time! Movie time! - アナは? - 見ない Oh my goodness, everybody's enjoying a movie here. 日本語で考えない? So girls, Daddy was doing the comments on our YouTube videos and I got a comment that says 思考は日本語 夢は違う Do you think or dream in Japanese? Anna?! - 日本語の夢は見ないんだね - そう First you. No, never. ベッカは? You don't think in Japanese? 日本語で考えるけど 夢は見ない Think, yes. But I didn't dream in Japanese. そうなの?サラは? You don't dream in Japanese? No. 夢は日本語じゃないけど What about... What about Becca? 思考回路は日本語かもね I think in Japanese but I don't think I dream in Japanese. ジョシュアは勉強中だね 少し日本語で考える? Oh, really?! Sarah? うん I don't dream in Japanese but maybe I think in... - 日本語話せなかった時を覚えてる? - 僕も夢見た事ない I think you probably think in it, because you girls have been speaking it a long time. 夢は現実じゃないからね And Joshua, he's still learning Japanese. So you think a little bit in Japanese, huh? そうだね Yea. Yea? どう思う? [Ruth] Girls, do you remember when you didn't know Japanese? [Joshua]I didn't have a dream in Japanese before. 日本語で夢見るかと思ってたわ Because it's just not real in the dream. ベッカとアナは日本語出来なかった時を 覚えてないのね I see. 4歳の時は何語話してた? Is that what you expected? 英語とポルトガル語ね I expected them to dream in Japanese. もうポルトガル語は出来ないわね But I knew that Becca and Anna don't remember a time that they didn't know Japanese. 今は日本語だから But when they were 4 years old, what two languages did they speak? 英日バイリンガルね When they were 4 they spoke English and Portuguese, 子供が寝たので やっと夫婦でリラックスです They were learning Portuguese and now they don't know any Portuguese. 翌朝は早起きして コーヒーを調達して But they don't ever remember not knowing Japanese. 野毛山公園で日の出を見ました So now it's just English/Japanese. 寒かったですが 美しい景色が見れました The kids are in bed, it's time for mommy and daddy... Just about to go to bed. 横浜が一望出来ます The next morning I got up early and headed out to grab a hot cub of 7-11 coffee 低地や丘陵 東京湾が見えます and hike up to nearby Nobeyama park where I could get a sunrise view of the city. どの街にも 何ら頭の個性があります It was cold but beautiful, and from the vantage point I had a commanding view of the city. 横浜滞在 最後の朝です From here you can see the features that make up Yokohama's geography マスクは? the low areas, hills and bluffs that come and meat Tokyo bay. それじゃない If you look closely in this urban sprawl, you can see the individual personalities of the people coming through in their homes and gardens. OK Now it's time for our last morning in Yokohama before heading home. 最後は山下公園です Where's your masks? 大きな埠頭だね I didn't use those. This one was in my pocket. 見えた?行こうか OK 行こう There's no better way to finish our trip than along the bay at historic Yamashita Park. 素敵なヨット Wow, that's a giant shipyard over there, huh? ドン・キホーテで買い物しました Now we've seen it... Now we can go. 寄り道のつもりでしたが Now we can go! 別の動画を作るかもしれません There's some nice yachts or boats 良かった? So Ruth and I just did an absolutely epic shopping trip at Don Quijote 楽しかったわ We thought maybe it was just going to be a moment, もうお昼ご飯? It turned out to be so big that it's going to be it's own separate video. おんぶして! You liked it, huh? 花を見ようか? Oh, it was glorious. - 噴水見て! - 行こうか Boo! 花壇を見よう "未来のバラ園" Is it lunchtime yet? "未来のバラ園" 見てみましょう Daddy, give me a back ride! A back ride? コロナ渦での外出は注意が必要です Oh, let's go check out all these flowers, guys, OK? 気を付けながら 前向きでありたいです Look at that water-thing! Yea, let's go see it. シーズンはまだ先です Let's go check out this little flower park. Rose Garden of the Future 人生は家族と同じ 神様からの贈り物です Rose Garden of the Future?! Well we found it here! 家族を大事にすれば どこでも楽しい時間を過ごせます Having an adventure during a pandemic can be a challenge, as you have to be flexible and careful. 妖精の噴水! But just because there's a pandemic doesn't mean that you have to stop enjoying life. 何かの歌だわ We're a little out of season for these roses. 横浜で気分転換出来ました Life is a gift from God, just like family is. また来たいです If you value life and value family, you can have an adventure anywhere at anytime, even if it's close to home. 思い出の旅行先は? コメントで教えて下さい!
