- Hi, Bob, the Canadian here.
I wanted to make one last video for the year 2020
because I had a few things I wanted to say.
The first thing I want to say is this:
I like you.
I like you a lot.
Now you might be sitting there watching this video thinking,
how can Bob the Canadian like me?
We've never met in real life.
I know a little bit about him
because I've watched his videos,
but how can Bob the Canadian say he likes me?
Well, there's one thing I know about you.
And that one thing makes me like you a lot.
And it's this:
You have decided to learn another language.
It is incredibly difficult to learn another language
but you decided a year ago, maybe two years ago,
maybe many years ago that you were going to learn
another language and you chose to learn English.
So, because I know that about you, I like you.
I have always liked people who are willing
to do difficult things.
I have always liked people who are willing
to take on huge challenges and then succeed.
So you are awesome and I like you a lot.
The second thing I wanted to say is this:
I am just thankful that you watched my videos in 2020.
When I looked back over the year,
I looked at some of the videos I made
and two videos stood out to me as being my favorites.
I'm not sure if they're your favorites,
but I really liked the video where I taught the prepositions
in, on, by an at because I got to climb a tree.
And I really enjoyed doing the video about my pet peeves.
That was a fun video for me to make as well.
So when I looked back on 2020,
I randomly read through some comments on different videos.
And I just have to once again, say, thank you
for watching my lessons.
I know it sounds funny when the teacher thanks the students
for watching their lessons or for doing their lessons
but I just really appreciate it.
Not because of the thumbs ups and not because of the views,
but just because you guys
have given me really good feedback.
And most of you have said that you enjoy my lessons
and that they are helpful.
So thank you so much for watching my lessons
in the past year.
2020 was kind of a strange year.
It had its ups and downs, we would say in English,
but certainly I really enjoyed all
of the video lessons that I created.
I do wanna say thank you as well to those of you
that come to my live streams.
I love doing the live streams every Friday and Saturday.
It's just a lot of fun to teach a topic on Friday
and to just hang out with you on Saturday
and answer your questions.
So when I look back on 2020, thank you very much.
In a few days on January 3rd,
my channel will be four years old.
I will have been doing YouTube for four years.
There's a great verb test.
That's for you.
I will have been doing YouTube for four years
and I can hardly believe it.
It seems like time has gone very quickly.
I did notice though that my hair is a lot grayer
than it was four years ago.
If you go back and watch some of my earlier videos,
my hair was more brown than gray
but it certainly has started to turn gray.
So anyways, in a few days
it will be the four-year anniversary of my channel.
Thank you for being subscribers and for watching
and for just helping me build something
that I think is really cool.
I know I could claim that I built it,
but you can't build something without everyone helping out.
So thank you for being subscribers and members
and watching videos and just helping me build
this little spot on the internet
where people can learn a bit more English.
Now let's talk about 2021.
2021 starts later today
if you're watching this video on December 31st.
Everyone tonight will yell happy new year
but most people will be at really small parties because...
or not at a party at all.
I'm not going to a party, by the way.
It'll just be Jen and I and the kids tonight,
but it will be 2021.
So first of all, what should you do in 2021?
First of all, don't feel bad if you didn't learn
as much English as you wanted to in 2020.
So if you finished 2020 and you were like,
oh, I had really big goals
and I didn't learn as much English as I wanted to.
Don't worry about it.
Don't stress about it.
Set new goals for 2021.
Just work harder at the things that you know
you need to work hard at.
I think 2021 will be a great year.
I am obviously back from a little break.
If you didn't realize it, I haven't made a video
on this channel since last Saturday or last Friday.
No, actually it's been longer than that.
It's been so long I can't even remember.
But I'm back.
In two days there'll be a new video
and it will be a grammar lesson.
Two days after that there'll be another video
and it will be a grammar lesson,
I think you will enjoy it.
I'm starting the year with some hard lessons.
(laughing)
I've started the year with some lessons
that I think you will really enjoy
and that will really help you improve your English.
So what should you do in 2021?
Set good goals, be determined, do well,
just be positive about the year.
Don't let maybe some failures of the last year influence
how you think about the future. Okay?
Make sure that you are just positive
and having good, happy thoughts.
Happy thoughts are a good thing to have.
Anyways, I don't have a lot else to say.
I think I've thanked you too many times
but I'll thank you once again.
Thank you so much for watching my videos.
This was never going to be something
as big as what it is. Okay?
When I initially started, it was just something
I was doing just to learn some stuff.
And then all of you started watching.
So thank you very much.
Thanks to all of you who have been here for four years.
Thanks to those of you that have just joined
in the last week.
But anyways, I'm gonna go now.
It's kind of a miserable day here,
but I'm in a really good mood
so I'll leave you with a smile.
I hope you have a great December 31st
and I hope you have an amazing 2021.
Bye.
