It's a traditional craft fair

日本の伝統技術が展示されてます

Where they're selling lots of traditional Japanese crafts

買うことも出来ると思います

Apparently all the proceeds go to helping rebuilding of Northern Japan

東日本大震災被災地応援フェアです

So yeah, that's pretty awesome

So we're going to go there, hope they have some cool stuff to show you guys!

and it looks like they were making "noren" - curtains

I didn't realize there were so many different colours of tatami

色んな色あるんですね

I thought it was just a standard green

They have multi-coloured! Striped if you will

That has to be hand placed along the entire thing

He was just explaining that these designs over here

職人の人に説明してもらったんですけど

are originally from 100 years ago

このデザインが１００年前のデザインで

and they get passed down to the new technicians

新しい職人に受け継がれてきている

So they can keep up the traditional designs

昔からのデザインが無くならないようにね

But these ones over here, are some newer designs

でもこっちは新しいデザイン

Everything is carved out by hand

すべて手で掘ります
