That's not going to happen

but that doesn't mean you should stop trying to

Yeah, I admit it

私はこのようなテクニックに長けていません

I'm not really good with some of those skills

しかし、それは、そのような技を習得する努力を否定するものではありません

but that doesn't mean you should stop trying

which is why I'm going to Aizu Wakamatsu

福島県の

In Fukushima prefecture

新しい技を身に着けるために

to try to acquire a new skill

会津若松市には何か本当に役に立つものがあると聞きました

I heard they have something really useful there

そのために、今、豪華列車に乗っています

And I'm doing it on a luxury train

これはグリーンカーです

This is the Green Car

グリーンカーは日本ではファーストクラスのことです

The GREEN CAR is considered Japan's first class.

なぜグリーンカーと呼ばれるかというと

It's called the green car because

ファーストクラスの切符は、緑のバンドでぐるりと囲まれているからです

first class tickets had a green band around them

ファーストクラスをグリーンカーと呼ぶようになったのは１９６９年です

and 1st class was renamed Green Car in 1969.

そこは常に平和で広々とした場所です

It's a place that's always peaceful and spacious.

東武鉄道の”鬼怒川特急”のグリーンカーは非常に快適な車両です

Tobu's KINU Express train has very comfortable green car compartments,

John's connection in Aizu Wakamatsu is WAKAMATTSUN,

a samurai who is well known in the area with connections to the underworld.

鬼怒川温泉で列車を乗り換えます

There's a quick change of trains at Kinugawa Onsen

to the Aizu Mount Express

列車の旅と言えば駅弁です

Traveling by train means EKIBEN

ソースかつ丼はこの地域の名物です

and the sauce katsudon is a local specialty.

ピリ辛ソースをたっぷりかけたパン粉を塗した柔らかい豚カツが

Tender breaded pork cutlets smothered in a tangy sauce

ご飯の上に乗っています

on a bed of rice.

西福島と通って目的地に近づくにつれ、

As the train rolls closer to its destination through west Fukushiama,

ジョンは見張られている気がしてきました

John gets the sense he's being watched.

彼です

He is.

スパイだ

By an agent.

彼の任務は秘密ではないのだ

It seems his mission is no secret.

会津若松市は正確には何処にあるのだろうか？

Where exactly is Aizu Wakamatsu?

福島県の西側

It's on the west side of Fukushima prefecture

東に丘を擁して

against hills to the east.

多くの人々がその歴史を鑑みて”侍の街”と呼んでいる

Many call it SAMURAI CITY for it's history of

侍！

– well, Samurai.

今日、会津若松市は素晴らしい

Today, Aizu Wakamatsu has a fantastic mix of

自然と都市空間との融合を見せている

nature and urban space.

城山の麓には武道の道場があります

At the base of the castle is this martial arts dojo

そこでジョンは若松さんと会うことになっている

where John is set to meet with Wakamattsun.

ここへ来るよう指示されました

I was instructed to come here

スパイは先にここへ来ているようだ

It seems the agent has gotten there first.

秘密の会議場所は妥協の産物のようだ

The secret meeting spot has been compromised.

薙刀（なぎなた）学校で洗脳される

And the Naginata school brainwashed!

ようこそジョン、いざ！

Welcome, John is not.

全て女性の薙刀戦士

The all female Naginata warriors

何百年も様々な経験の積み重ね

have centuries of combined experience.

ある種の死にとてつもなく長い間直面している人々

Certain death faces anyone who lingers too long.

することはただ一つ

There's only one thing to do.

逃げろ！

Run.

今回はスパイにしてやられた

The agent has won this battle this time.

ジョンは立て直すための場所が必要です

John needs to find a place to regroup.

あの女性たちは私に会うのを喜んでいなかった

Those women are not happy to see me!

ところで、ここは鶴ヶ城

By the way, Tsuruga-jo!

お城は同乗の隣にあります

The castle is next to the Dojo.

ぷらんBを立てるには絶好の場所です

An excellent place to form plan B.

鶴ヶ城または会津若松城は

Tsuruga-jo or Aizu-Wakamatsu Castle

１３８４年に建てられたお城のレプリカです

is a replica of the original which was erected in 1384

１８６８年の会津戦争で破壊されました

destroyed in 1868 in the Battle of Aizu.

ジョンは女性の薙刀戦士達から

It seems that John has escaped the Naginata warriors –

一時的に逃避したようです

for the time being.

(Hahaha! He was actually never followed.)

Reaching high ground seems to be the best strategy

and there's no better place to scout the area

What went wrong?

簡単な任務は薙刀の技を習得することだった

A simple mission to acquire the Naginata skill

それが悪夢に変わった

has turned into a nightmare.

道場は、今、静まり返っているようだ

The dojo now looks quiet now

若松さんに会わなければならない

t's essential to meet with Wakamatsun –

最高の合う場所は、最初決めた所だ

and the best place is the original meeting area because –

それ以外にどこへ行きますか？

where else is he going to go, right?

若松さんは道場の中にいます

Wakamatsun was inside.

He communicates through telepathy

since he has no known vocal cords.

This is the Hanaharu Sake Brewery

青々とした水田に囲まれています

surrounded by lush rice paddies

ここで何百年も酒を造っています

They've been making sake for centuries.

ジョンは最高の一本をさがしていますが、素人に

John searches for the best bottle, but it's hard to know –

見分けるのは困難です

for an amateur.

福島県、特に会津地方は

Fukushima, especially the Aizu area

最高級の酒を作り出すことでよく知られています

is known for having some of the best sake.

This is the brewery's top grade sake

It's a “junmai “daiginjo” sake

フルーティな香りと少しドライな味

with a fruity bouqut and slightly dry taste

”純米大吟醸酒”は最も純粋な酒です

Junmai Daiginjyo is the purest level of sake.

不純物を除きます

The rice must be polished to at least 50% of it's original size

澄んだ、滑らかな味を出すために

removing the impurities,

giving it a clear smoother taste.

花春純米大吟醸が本当に素晴らしい

Hanaharu's Junmai Daiginjo is so good –

It looks like John may actually survive this.

Well, no – but it is delicious.

A sauce katsudon, but it's not the cure.

何かお話があるそうですね？

Do you expect me to talk?

貴方が食べるのを期待しています

彼が料理したものをー貴方が食べた物を料理した

I expect you to eat!

太めの縮れ麺は真っ直ぐな麺より、多くのスープを絡めることが出来る

He means what he cook - and cooks what you eat.

縮れ麺はこの地方のラーメンでは有名です

The large wavy noodles catch more of the broth than straight noodles,

効果は瞬時にでます

a style famous for this area's ramen.

ラーメンは効きました

The impact is instantaneous.

ジョンは今回は、助かりました

The ramen works.

ぎりぎりで

John is saved - this time -

会津の下町を歩きながら、道場へ戻って行きます

and just in time.

スパイはジョンが薙刀を習う事を阻止するのに失敗しました

Walking through downtown Aizu Wakamatsu back to the Dojo –

失敗したのですから、ジョンは自分でやる必要があります

The agent may still succeed

薙刀は、激しい稽古を必要とする武道です。

since failing is something John may do on his own.

薙刀は長い棒―武器です

Naginata is a martial arts which requires great discipline.

離れたところから、相手を打ち据えるのに有効な武器です

The Naginata is the stick – a weapon –

それをどのように使うかを知っている人にだけ有効です

which is useful to hit from a distance.

しかし、その日の稽古の終わりまでに、薙刀の技を習っただけでなく、

It's only useful if one knows how it's used.

彼は女性たちに魅了された

But by the end of the day, he's not only learned the art of Naginata,

私は貴方に思いだしてもらう必要はない

he's charmed the ladies.

誰がこの薙刀で致命的な傷を負ったか

Who - I need not remind you –

薙刀の先生は少し薙刀の歴史を説明してくれました

are deadly with those Naganata.

薙刀は男の武器でした

The Naginata sensei explains a little of the history.

鎌倉時代（1185-1333）以前は

Naginata was a weapon for men

しかし、戦国時代、織田信長の時代に

before the Kamakura Era (1185-1333)

男性の武器は鉄砲になりました

but in the Sengoku Era in Nobunaga Oda's time

そして、薙刀は女性の武器になったわけです

the weapon for men became guns

江戸時代に

and Naginata became a weapon for women

薙刀は護身用の武器になりました

In the Edo period

攻撃用ではなくなったのです

it became a weapon for self protection

そうです。多くの女性の侍がいました

and not for assault.

多くの女性が使っていたのです

That's right, there were female samurai

会津若松では薙刀は選択する武器でした

and many wielded the Naginata.

そして、今日、再びスポーツとして有名になっています

It was the weapon of choice in this city back then –

ジョンは多分、いつか素晴らしい国際スパイになっているでしょう

and again today since it's famous for the sport.

いつの日か？
