Today we're gonna be making a Japanese tongue twister video

今日は日本の早口言葉をやります。

The other day when I was drinking with Jei at his seijin shiki

この間ジェイの成人式で一緒に飲んでた時、

we were talking about tongue twisters and he was ridiculously good at them

早口言葉の話題になったんだけど、ジェイが嘘みたいに上手なの。

So I figured I had to bring him here to make a video

そこで、一緒に早口言葉の動画を作ろうと思って。

So we've got 5 tongue twisters today to teach you guys

今日は五つの早口言葉を用意しました。

Me and Jei are gonna battle, and Holly is going to be the judge

私とジェイが競い合って、ホリーが判定します。

And we'll try to think of some penalty for the person that loses

そして、負けた方には罰ゲームがあります。

Let's do this!

では開始！

We'll start with something easy, I think the easiest one is probably...

最初はやさしいのからね。一番簡単なのは多分…

Nama mugi means raw wheat

「なまむぎ」は生の麦。

Nama gome is uncooked rice

「なまごめ」は炊く前の米、

Nama tamago is raw egg

「なまたまご」は生の卵。

So we're gonna try and say that 3 times

これを三回続けて言うことにします。

This is the one that he's been practicing for years

So I'm obviously gonna fail this one

A bouzu is a monk or priest

「ぼうず」はお坊さん、仏教の僧侶。

So I guess it's like a religious head figure

だから何かお寺の偉い人かな。

A byoubu is a folding screen

「びょうぶ」は折りたためるついたて。

You know those fancy folding screens that you see in traditional Japanese homes

日本の伝統的な家屋に綺麗な屏風があることあるよね。

Jyouzu means to do something well, skillfully

「じょうずに」は、何かをうまくやること。

Bouzu, so again the monk or the priest

また「ぼうず」、僧侶。

E is like a painting

「え」は、絵画ですね。

Kaita can mean to draw in this situation

「かいた」はこの場合、描くこと。

So the monk drew the monk's picture well on the folding screen

英語で言うと、"The monk drew the monk's picture well on the folding screen"。

Doesn't have to make sense it's just a tongue twister

意味はどうでもよくて、言いにくければいいんです (^o^)

This next one's a new one for both of us, we just found it on the internet

これは二人とも知らなかった早口言葉で、インターネットで見つけました。

He said he went to Tottori with his brother 2 days ago

英語だと、"He said he went to Tottori with his brother 2 days ago" ってなるんだけど。

Ototoi is 2 days ago

「おととい」は二日前、

Otouto = younger brother

「おとうと」は男の兄弟の若い方、

Tottori is a place in Japan

「とっとり」というのは、日本のある場所、

Itta to = said he went

「いったと」は、「行ったと（言った）」。

Ok ok, I'm gonna try

じゃ、私ね。

合ってた？

Yep you got it

うん、合ってた。

I feel ilke I'm gonna lose this one, here we go

Mine didn't even sound like Japanese though

でもぜんぜん日本語に聞こえなかった。

I feel like when you say it really fast it doesn't even make any sense

何だか速く言うと意味も通じない気がするー。

This is the first Japanese tongue twister that I was ever taught when I was learning Japanese

次のは私が日本語を習っていた時に最初に教えられた早口言葉。

Tonari no kyaku = the customer next to you

「となりのきゃく」は隣にいるお客さん、

yoku = often

「よく」は、頻繁に、

kaki = persimmon

「かき」は、柿ですね。

kuu = casual way of saying eat

「くう」というのは、「食べる」のくだけた言い方、

kyaku = customer

「きゃく」は、お店のお客さん。

The customer next to you is a customer that often eats persimmons

英語だと、"The customer next to you is a customer that often eats persimmons"。

That's even hard in English

英語で言っても難しい。

I'd never eaten a persimmon until I'd got to Japan

日本来るまで柿って食べたことなかった。

Yeah me neither!

うん、私も！

It looks like a tomato but it's orange

トマトみたいだけど橙色だよね。

One of my friends gave me those and I was like "Is it supposed to be a mandarin??"

そう、前に友達がくれたんだけど「何これミカンとかいうやつ？」みたいな。

I learnt the Japanese word before the English word

英語で何て言うかを知る前に日本語の「かき」を覚えた。

Yeah same!

あ、あたしも！

Everytime I see them in Canada I'm like "Oh kaki!"

カナダで見つけるといつも「オー、カキ！」って言っちゃうの！

Let's go with the super hard one that makes no sense

すごく難しくて意味わかんないので行こう。

So this last one is very long and very awkward

これはとても長くてとても言いづらい。

It's actually kinda difficult to explain

説明するのも難しいんだけど…

I can't even say it slowly

ゆっくりでも言えないよー。

kaeru = frog

「かえる」は蛙、

pyoko pyoko = frog noises

「ぴょこぴょこ」は蛙の鳴く声、

mi = 3

「み」は三回ってこと。

So it's saying the frog croaks, 3 croaks

だから意味は、蛙が三回鳴くってこと。

and then put them all together and it's 6 croaks

それを合わせると六回の鳴き声になる。

So I think it's saying there are 2 frogs that are croaking 3 times each?

なので、蛙が二匹いて、それぞれ三回鳴いたってことかしら。

And all together it's 6

だから合わせると六回。

Let's go with that

そういうことにしよ。

They're like a combination of black licorice and menthol

They've got like a minty flavour to them

That's even worse than just normal black licorice
