しかし今回は、私の大好きなお祭りのために来たんです。

Aomori's bay bridge is also quite a sight

それは「ねぶた祭り」

But we are here for my favorite summer festival.

「ねぶた祭り」は日本の三大祭りの一つと言われますが

Nebuta.

今回はそれがなぜなのか、ご覧に入れましょう！

The Nebuta Matsuri is Japan's top 3 festivals.

悪魔のような顔があちこちにあります。

And in this episode, I'm gonna show you why.

これは「鬼」で、ねぶた祭りの一環なのです。

These devilish face is everywhere.

ハネト浴衣を手に入れて、

They are ONI or gods.

準備を整えておきましょう。

and part of the Nebuta festival.

この山が「ねぶた」で、

Grab your "haneto" yukata.

全長は12メートル。

and get ready for the action.

夜はライトアップされ、青森市街を照らします。

These floats are the Nebuta

特にすごいのは、交差点で見せるこの回転です。

up to 12m long.

和太鼓に、

At night, they light up and dazzle Aomori City streets.

篠笛、

especially at the intersection where the spin.

そしてハネト。

Taico drums.

この見事な色、そして形。

Flutes.

全て紙に描かれたものです

and Haneto dancing.

もちろん地元の食もありますよ。

The colors and details are magnificent.

ねぶた祭りは私の大好きな日本の夏祭りです。

all painted onto paper.

誰でも参加できる、絶対に見てほしい祭りです。

Of course there is local food.

ここに何をしに来たのかというと…

The Nebuta Matsuri is my favorite summer festival in Japan.

ハネト浴衣を買いに来たのです。

It's a must see, and anyone can participate.

帽子と草履もつけて 私の場合、浴衣はセットで約12,000円。

That's what I'm here to do.

大通り沿いのお店でなら、 全て合わせて3,000円でレンタルすることもできます。

Buy a Haneto Yukata

着付けはそう簡単ではありませんが

The Yukata set cost me about 12,000 yen.

着こなせばこんなにカッコいいのです！

with the hat and sandals.

さあ、楽しもうじゃないか！

You can also rent it all for 3000yen

これがねぶた浴衣で、

at several shops on the main street.

そして花笠。

It's not so easy to put on.

ご覧のとおり、あー…

but when it's on, it looks good.

派手ですね。

鈴がいっぱい付いてるから、 来たことに皆が気付いてくれるね。

この花笠にももちろん…

The shoulders are kinda tight.

鳥さんがいるね。

It keeps you posture upright for dancing.

綺麗な鳥でしょ。

ねぶた祭りの背景

Of course in the Hanagasa,

写真は古くても1917年の物しかありませんが

There is a dove

ねぶたの形跡は1600年代の江戸時代ごろから 既にあったことが分かっています。

A beautiful bird.

ねぶたは年々大きく、複雑な形状になってきました。

I'm ready for this.

評判のねぶた師とお会いして、

There are photos from as early as 1917.

山を見せてもらえることになりました。

But the history of Nebuta can be traced back to the 1600s.

日本でもよく知られている中国の物語、 「三國志」をベースにしたものです

The Edo Period.

もう江戸時代から…いや、 もっと前からあったかも分からないんですけども、

The Nebuta got bigger and more complex every year.

江戸時代にはもうねぶたがあったっていう 記録もありますし、そういう

I met a well respected Nebuta Master designer.

脈々と先人から受け継いできた、ねぶたという物を 自分がこうして作れる立場になったということで

who showed me his float

その素晴らしい文化を引き継いでいく一つの役目を 担っているっていう事で、すごく力も出ますし

It's based on a famous story from China

やっぱり青森って冬が長いので、 真っ白な世界なんですよ。

それにやっぱり短い夏をカラフルな、パワフルな そういう物でハジケるっていうか

だから……なんだろうな？

in the Nebuta Warasse Museum nearby.

ねぶたのために生きてるっていうのも、私は 言い過ぎじゃあないかなと思います

The lighting is strategically attached to the frame.

大体チームで製作するんですけど

Surrounded by metal wiring.

骨組み、カラー…最後の色付けまでっていうのが 大体２０人ぐらい。

and this white paper.

そして白い和紙を貼りつける専門のグループが あるんですけど、それが大体２０人ぐらい。

A mistake one painting is costly.

だから、総勢４０名ぐらいのチームで作っていますけども

Tezuka san explains more about the Nebuta Festival.

一回に４０人が取り掛かれるワケではなくて

At this year's Nebuta Matsusi, Starwars made its appearance.

それぞれ皆さん働いているので その休みの日とか夜とか、空いた時間を使って

Made in the traditional style, the Jedi looks even more tougher.

入れ替え制って言うのかな？ そういうので手伝ってくれるので…

…ですけど、電球を点けた時にその木材の 影が出ないように電球を配置していたりとか

すぐ近くの、ねぶたの家ワ・ラッセで その構造のお手本を見ることが出来ます。

As I said, anybody can participate.

フレームによって照明の戦略を決めています。

Just jump into a Haneto dance area.

ワイヤーの囲いにこの白い紙。

and join the parade.

一枚の色塗り失敗でも値が張ります。

Only those with Haneto Yukatas are allowed.

手塚さんがねぶた祭りをより詳しく教えてくださいました。

ねぶたって、作る人もいるし 跳ねる人もいるし、お囃子やる人もいるし

Actually I don't know how to do the Haneto dance.

こういう運行…引っ張る人もいるし

I'm hoping it'll come to me naturally.

いろんな要素が一つになって 大きな祭りになっているんで。

That's all there is to the Haneto dance.

今年のねぶた祭りにはスターウォーズも出演しました。

Upfront, the parade warms up.

伝統スタイルで作られ、 ジェダイ達はいっそう強そうに見えます

The Nebuta floats start the journey around the 3 km loop

In our group, the Haneto leader rouses us with a megaphone.

The energy level is amazingly high.

The floats, lights, crowd, music, dancing

You just absorb it all.

先ほども言ったように、誰でも参加できます。

Summer in Aomori is hot and humid.

ハネトとなってエリア内で跳び行列に加わります。

Temperature is around 30 degrees celsius.

始まるまで待てない！

but the humidity is what is most brutal.

ただし参加できるのは、ハネト浴衣を着ている人だけです。

You'll need a fan.

５分前！

or a group of fans.

正直ハネトの踊り方は分からないんですが、

It's a life saver.

その内自然に出来ると思います！

We're rounding the corner of Hotel Aomori.

ちょっと、ハネトダンスの仕方わからないです

There are times when the dancing pauses.

むずかしい？

Up ahead is a big intersection.

これがハネトの全てです

Nebuta often spin,

私たちも、トゥデイ　イズ　ファーストタイム （今日が初めてです）

and put on a show from corner to corner.

オゥ、わたし初めて？

The louder the crowd applauses,

初めて。

the higher chance the Nebuta will come your direction.

初めて？

This is the only time to catch your breath.

before diving into the intersection 2.

私も初めて。

and dance like mad.

行列が盛り上がってきました。

The crowd expects it.

ねぶたの山が３kmの周回を始めます。

Joining the Haneto dance is a great way

２時間経つまでは止まりません。

to emerge yourself into culture.

私たちのグループでも ハネトのリーダーがメガホンで盛り上げます。

Meet locals, and meet new friends.

エナジーは最高潮。

As the Nebuta designer said,

山、照明、掛け声、音楽、踊り

All the elements do come together.

全てが同化します。

Dancers, float pushers, musicians, and crowd.

青森の夏は蒸し暑い。

Everything feels as one.

気温は３０℃程度ですが、

What exactly does Rassera, Rassera mean?

湿気がとくに厳しいのです。

No one knows for sure.

団扇があるといいですね。

It could mean take out.

もしくは扇ぎ合ったり。

The lights inside the floats which used to be candles.

ライフセーバーです

or possibly run away

ホテル青森の角を曲がります。

This is awesome.

拍手喝さいが起こります。

It's a long day.

ねぶたがこちらを向いてくれるチャンスです。

A long day but a lot of fun.

そして二つ目の交差点に辿り着くまでに

With these socks and sandals,

一息を付ける唯一の時間でもあります。

your feet really really hurt after..

踊りは熱狂し、観客は待ち望みます。

after jumping around.

文化に溶け込むためには、

So don't start jumping until the festival starts

ハネトに参加するのがうってつけです。

I started jumping around 2 o'clock.

地域と出会い、新しい仲間と出会えます。

It's not the smartest thing to do.

ねぶた師の言ったように、

It's better to lay low and..

すべての要素がまとまる、

As soon as the music starts, then you go for it.

踊る人、山を押す人、お囃子、観衆

if you do it for 2 hours, it felt like a marathon.

全てが一つになったように感じます。

The sweat was pouring. Every time you went to an intersection,

「ラッセーラー、ラッセーラ」とは どんな意味でしょうか？

The energy was increased.

正確なところは分かっていませんが

So did the feeling

おそらく「出せ」だろうと言われています。

It's like a red bull.

昔は山の中の照明にろうそくを使い、

I can say enough how amazing the Nebuta Matsuri is.

この巨大でおっかない 人形から逃げていたのかもしれません。

Either as a spectator,
