Hello, everyone. My name is Fanny and in this video,
I'm going to teach you how to pronounce words containing a 'Silent G' in English.
And these words are very common. I have two examples for you.
First, a very common word, 'sign'. Can you hear a G sound?
I can't. because the G is silent so you shouldn't pronounce
it, 'sign'. Another word, 'foreign'.
Do you know that dodgy is silent? All my students want to pronounce that G.
But you don't pronounce it, it's silent. So you say 'foreign'.
So as you can see, the silent G is often found in the combination '-gn', but not always.
In fact, I have a list of the most common words.
So let's get started. And don't forget that G is silent.
'align' 'assign'
'assignment' 'benign'
'campaign' 'champagne'
'cologne' 'consign'
'consignment' 'design'
'foreign' 'gnarl'
'gnat' 'gnaw'
'gnome' 'malign'
'phlegm' 'realign'
'reassign' 'reign'
'resign' 'sign'
'sovereign' Good, let's now move on to example sentences.
Okay, guys. So let's now practice with sentences.
Repeat after me and don't forget the G is silent.
'They bought champagne and cologne.' 'The gnat gnawed the sign.'
'We need to design and align the sign.' Great job, guys.
Okay, guys. that's it for the silent G video. Thank you for watching.
Don't forget keep practicing. Practice makes perfect.
See you in the next videos. Thank you very much for watching, guys.
