  • Hello and welcome, everybody

    こんにちは!

  • My name's Tony and I'm from England and

    今日のTonari no Tonyのテーマは

  • I'm an English teacher in Japan

    挨拶から自然に会話まで行けること

  • So many things to talk about today

    そしてバッTマン

  • so let's go straight to the whiteboard

    行きましょう!

  • So, here's the last lesson I showed you about greetings

    こんにちは、皆さん

  • All of these greetings simply mean *Japanese translation

    僕はトニーです

  • and like I said in the last lesson, the answer to all

    イギリスから来まして

  • of these is "Good, thanks. You?"

    今英語の先生の仕事しています

  • Or in America...

    今日は色々教えたいから

  • If you haven't seen this lesson yet, please have a look

    早めにホワイトボード行きましょう

  • there is a link underneath this video

    レッツゴー

  • So, these greetings can be used for a quick greeting

    では、今はこの前のレッスンの内容ですね

  • there's no conversation expected

    全部の意味は”元気ですか" / "最近どうですか?"

  • and for these situations,

    で、この言いましたけど答えはいつも同じ

  • this question and answer combination is perfect

    "元気です。あなたは?”

  • But there is another situation,

    それかアメリカでしたら”最近は問題な?”

  • a situation where you're expected to

    ”ないです。あなたは?"

  • have a conversation

    このレッスンまだ見てなかったらぜひ

  • This conversation can also be seen a lot

    見てくださいね

  • in your English classes

    リンクはこのビデオの下にあります

  • So, in these situations, the same question here

    じゃ、この挨拶はちょっと軽い感じですね

  • is absolutely fine

    クウィック挨拶で

  • You can use these questions here in this situation too

    会話が期待されてないし

  • But what about the answers here?

    ちょっと早めに挨拶する状況でしたら

  • If we stick with "Good, thanks. You?" will it work?

    これでOKです

  • Well, that didn't go very well!

    ”元気ですか?”

  • The conversation just went round in circles

    ”元気です。あなたは?”

  • Because we have this "you?" in there

    ”元気です。またね!”

  • there's no way a conversation can ever actually begin

    でも、他の状況もありますね

  • So, lets take out this "you?"

    会話が期待されてる状況

  • We're expected to have a conversation here so

    面と向かう状況

  • you simply have to say something, anything, to let the

    英会話でもこの状況いっぱいありますね

  • conversation begin

    会話が必要

  • But how? English is really difficult, right?

    で、この質問でも全然OKです

  • Yes, but there is an order and a pattern

    これで全然OK

  • Starting with a subject is very important

    この状況でも全然続けます

  • I'm always telling my students to remember to say

    でも答えはどうしますかね?

  • the subject. Usually it's a person

    もしこの前の言いた通りに

  • OK, next type of word. You need a verb

    "Good, thanks, you?"

  • A verb is something you do with your body

    って言いたら

  • In this example, we're talking about recent events so

    どうになりますかね?

  • we need to use past tense

    見て見ましょう

  • For example..

    こんにちは

  • OK, after this we need a noun

    さ...

  • The name of a thing or a person

    元気ですか?

  • Put (very) simply, use a noun here

    元気ですよ。あなたは?

  • And finally we can add a time

    ま、元気ですよ

  • Again, we're talking about a past event here so

    あなたは?

  • you need to tell the person when all this happened

    元気ですよ。あなたは?

  • We have our pattern, so let's try

    元気ですよ。あなたは?

  • *Japanese translation

    元気ですよ。あなたは?

  • *Japanese translation

    元気ですよ。あなたは?

  • We're following the pattern, everybody OK?

    元気ですよ

  • *Japanese translation

    あなたは?

  • Nice. We have our pattern, we have our structure

    元気ですよ....

  • Person, verb, noun, time..

    あなたは?

  • Person, verb, noun, time..

    元気ですよ

  • So, let's apply this to the face to face situation

    上手く行ってないですね

  • from before

    話回りました

  • What's going to happen?

    何で話回ったかなって言いたら

  • I have to say something

    この"you”が入ってるから

  • OK, we finally started and had a conversation

    何回も何回も

  • It was a strange conversation but

    話回ったらちょっと面白くないですね

  • the reason the conversation started was because

    会話になってない

  • "blue Tony" found something to say and just said it

    じゃ、この"you"を撮って

  • In actual fact, any one of those words flying around

    "元気ですか?"

  • his head would have been absolutely fine

    "元気です........."

  • "Work" - Perfect. You can say so much here

    で、会話が期待されてるから

  • Seriously, anything is ok,

    なんか言わないと

  • but please, just say something

    何でもOKですよ

  • And do NOT worry about making mistakes

    でもどうやって言いますかね?

  • Making mistakes is NEVER a bad thing

    順番がありますよ

  • In fact, it's a very very good thing

    パッターンがあります

  • When you make a mistake you give yourself

    最初は絶対に"人"から言いてください

  • a chance to learn.

    それはすごく大事なことですね

  • Firstly, English is just a tool for communication

    僕いつも言いていますよ。生徒たちに

  • if you can get the other person to understand what you're trying to say,

    じゃ、次の言葉

  • mission accomplished

    次の言葉は"動詞"

  • My Japanese in this video is far from perfect.

    体でやること

  • I'm not using as much honorific Japanese as I should

    もちろんこれは最近についてですから

  • my intonation isn't great,

    過去形が必要

  • my vocabulary and grammar could all be much better,

    例えば

  • but if you're sat there and you're understanding me

    ”飲みました”

  • isn't that enough?

    ”寝ました”

  • Just imagine NOT being scared of making mistakes

    ”歩きました”

  • Imagine actually wanting to make mistakes

    その後は”名詞”ですね

  • You'd get better really quickly, right?

    "物"ですね。物の名前

  • Don't think "I don't want to make any mistakes today",

    ”人”の名前でもOK、(とても)簡単に言うと

  • try thinking "I want to make so many mistakes today"

    ここは”名詞”で

  • "so many!"

    次の言葉の種類は

  • 10 mistakes

    ”時間”ですね

  • 20 mistakes

    ここに”時間”を入れてください

  • 30 mistakes

    もちろん、これは最近についてですから

  • mmm!

    その”最近”のいつかを言わないと

  • Go for it! Please, make mistakes

    OK, 順番がありますね

  • Also, don't worry.

    例えば

  • While you're speaking English, Batman will not jump

    順番守りましたね

  • out and scare you

    大丈夫ですか?

  • I guarantee it

  • OK, so next time let's have a look

    形ありますね

  • at actually "how" to study English

  • Important study methods
