My university is going to start classes again in one week

so before that got started

I wanted to share some of my Spring Break vibes

春休みの時に見た、

and share what I've been watching in the past few weeks

日本語の勉強になった、

to expand my Japanese and keep things up.

Which is why I wanted to share: The Top 3 NetFlix Shows I've been watching

to keep up or expand my Japanese.

Plus, I'm going to add in some bonus shows, because

Most of the shows that caught my eye were ones

Specifically I really liked the "Aloha" series

All of these people who mix a little bit of English

But the twist is that the food is actually really cheap,

accesible, and from real restaurants in Japan.

It's really just about a crisp looking Japanese guy

外見はサラリーマンだけど、

who just wants to eat food. It's very simple.

本当は美味しいものを毎日食べたいだけ。

He just. want. to eat.

食・べ・た・い・だ・け。

He'll run out of a business meeting just to eat, and I get that!

毎日の営業よりもご飯に集中しているみたいで、面白い！

If you've ever been to Japan or seen Japanese TV

日本のテレビでは

you know that food is a huge part of the TV industry

食べ物を紹介・レビューする番組が多いから

people love to sit around and say "yum", "tasty"

「美味しい!、うまい!」

"it's got a great, deep flavor!"

「酸味もある!」といいながら食べる

and all the different ways to describe a piece of food.

というシーンもよくあるパターンですね。

The main character, Goro, is ACTUALLY hilarious

でも、主役の「ゴロ」山河本当に面白い！

He's a salaryman on the outside, but he's just a simple man who wants to eat

外見はしっかりしているけど・・・ 普通に食べたいだっけ。

good food for cheap!

Bグルメも好きだし！

For me it was helpful to learn more food words,

この番組をみて、よく笑って、

to learn about different dishes, but specifically

料理を説明する新しい単語も覚えたけど、

it introduced different local restaurants in my area!

ローカルの店の紹介が本当に好きです！

The show is a "fiction" but it takes place in real places

「フィクション」ですけど、店は実際にあります。

so there are many people who go on Kodoku-no-Gurume tours

ですから、「孤独のグルメに出た店いってみたい！」

and try to eat at the different places. I want to try that next!

という新しい観光のやり方もはやっています。

This series unfortunately does NOT have any subtitles

英語の字幕はなくて、

and it's not available outside of Japan

I wanted to recommend that one because it's really hot in Japan

"Erased" in English, or "Boku Dake ga Inai Machi"

「僕だけがいない街」

Snowy, industrial, mysterious, spooky,

雪国が背景になって、神秘的な雰囲気の

some kind of fantasy thriller is going on but

ファンタシーストーリーです！

it also has a really good pace to it!

すぐ気に入りましたね！

I first watched it because

最初みたけっかけは

I was just looking for something to watch while I folded laundry

ただ洗濯物を畳みながらテレビを見たかったけど

and I didn't finish my laundry, I just watched the entire series in an afternoon!

結局洗濯を忘れちゃった、 一気に最後まで見ちゃった！

the main character is played by two different people

主役は二つの俳優が出るけど、

One is the famous Yuki Furukawa

最近有名になった古川雄輝さん画メインで、

I think most people watched it to see him

彼だから見たいと思った人は多いかもしれない。

but when you watch it you get really drawn into the performance

でも、見たら、古川さんよりも、

by the younger version of the same character,

若い俳優さんのほう、

Reo Uchikawa. So this young lad,

内川蓮生のほうが演技うまかった！

he BLEW me out of the water!

感動的で、インパクトもある！

This was some of the best acting

なんか、最近見たものの中で

and best quality acting I've seen in Japan.

一番うまかったかもしれません。

In Japanese TV in a long time... and the cinematography!

内川さんって本当にうまいです！ カメラワークも美しい！

When I saw the first episode literally thought

最初見た時、まるで、

I was watching the Japanese version of Stranger Things

最近アメリカで大人気となった Stranger Thingsの

but only with cute Hokkaido accents.

北海道バージョンだと思いました。

That was the vibe it gave me, and I was immediately sucked in

なんとなく見ちゃいます！

It has this nostalgic, sweet but dark

なんだか、懐かしい雰囲気の裏に

mysterious... not sci-fi but

ダークのストーリーがあって、

fantasy thriller vibe. It really sucks you in.

ファンタシーだけど、見ちゃいますね！

Those accents though!

後、方言がすごく気に入りました！

Everything ended in "da be". "I know you did it (da be!!)"

語尾に「だべ」をつけるのが

...Da be?! That sounds so cute!

「だべ」ってなんか可愛くない？

I think "da be" is "deshou" in Hokkaido accent,

「だべ」は北海道弁の「でしょう」みたい？

and "shitakke" is like... "mata ne" I think?

あと、分かれる時に「したっけ」とかいって、

It's so cute when you hear these little kids

子供たちが本当に可愛かったです！

and their performances are truly amazing!

でも、演技本当にうまい！

I really recommend this one. So those are my 3 Netflix recommendations

何よりも、「僕だけがいない街」が気に入りましたね！

But those aren't the only things I've been watching!

ネットフリックス以外、他の番組も見ました。

"Yae no Sakura"

大河ドラマの「八重の桜」については

I've tweeted about this and mentioned it on my second channel.

Twitterで投稿したけど、

I recently did a project in Fukushima.

この間、福島県でプロジェクットをしていて、

When I was in Fukushima I saw posters for this drama

あっちこっちに、「八重の桜」のポスターがありました。

and thought that maybe it'd be good research.

私は日本の歴史、

I don't know too much about history or samurai

武士道などの話詳しくないので、

or anything historical like that

自分の研究の役に立つだろうと思ったら

so I started watching and again I was blown away!

これもすごく面白かったです！

She's a woman, survives wars

てっぽをうつ女で、

and then goes on to help found the first University

戦争の後で、私が通っていた同志社大学の設立に

I went to when I first moved to Japan!

活躍して、驚きました。

Real historical accounts about the last samurai

ハリウッドとぜんぜんちがって、

NOT TOM CRUISE

リアルな話で、

what actually happened in Japan's civil war

日本の歴史も明治時代についても

right before they opened up to the West

本当に勉強になりました！

I'm not really into history stuff but it really appealed to me

こんな歴史が苦手な私も気に入ったから

so I highly recommend that one.

and how to handle casual and more formal situations.

It also covers "Keigo" and cultural tips as well.

警護も、文化違いについてよく紹介されて、

It's on YouTube and across the internet

ユーチューブに載っています。

but that show really helped me

この番組をみて、

start separating my casual and more formal styles.

私も丁寧語をレベルアップしたら気に入りました。

If you're looking to do anything academic in Japan

二つ目は、

I highly recommend Ikegami Akira's "Yasashii Keizaigaku"

池上彰さんの優しい経済学。

it's a live school lecture that he did.

生の講座みたいで、

He taught students in the liberal arts who don't usually

経済をなどの難しそうトピックをやさしく

study economics or topics like that.

学部さんに教えるシリーズです。

But when you pay taxes every year,

税金、消費税、年金などの

and wonder who's taking a cut of your salary

毎日触れている大事な概念を

all those things that actually effect your daily life

わかりやすく説明する内容なので、

or your personal money that you earned

社会にでて、お金を稼ぐ年齢になると

all of that is covered in a basic, easy to digest way

これぐらいの知るべきトピックがわかりやすく

and it just gives you a better grasp on your lifestyle

説明されているから、日本で就職したい人には

and what you do as an adult.

おすすめです。

One thing that always helped me is to watch shows multiple times.

番組を使って、言語を学びたければ、

Start with subtitles, then watch it again without them

一回見てから、字幕をオフにしてみてね！

that way you know the content and what you're listening for

そうすると、ストーリーがわかって上で、

and you can start picking up certain words

言葉をほろ出して、聞き取れるから

and start sounding like certain characters that you admire.

ひとつの勉強のやり方としてお勧めします。
