It is 33 degree celsius! (91 F)

今、33℃で、

Frickin hot...

非常に厚くて

and ridiculously humid...OUT THERE!!

外も圧倒的に蒸し暑い！

So I'm kind of afraid to go outside

外に行きたくないよ！

I think I'm going to end up

having at least 4 bags

荷物が4個以上になる

This is my last weekend here in the dorm

寮での最後週末だから

So I'm trying to bring

今日はできるだけ、自分で

as much stuff over as I can today

ものを移動したいけど

and if they're anything left

なにかが残ったら

I'll bring it next week

平日に戻って、迎えに来て

But next week I don't really have time to move

ただ、今日からとても忙しいから

So I kind of need to get this all done now.

できれば、今日全部を持っていきたいけど

Impossible!!

もう、無理だ！

But yeah, this is the dorm!

まあ、とりあえず、これが寮です。

You may have seen glimpses in other videos

there's a sink,

a bathroom,

a desk, a refrigerator,

and a bed.

Oh, and an air conditioner, of course.

It's totally liveable

I am moving in this freaking weather

今日、こんな蒸し暑い日に引っ越すなんて

I'm tryin to wait for the sun to go down

日が沈むのを待ちたいけど

but I can't wait because it's like

それもやばいかも。

I either go now when the sun is up

今の内にいったら、

and there aren't that many people on the train

人が少ないけど厚い。

or I wait until the sun goes down

夕方に行くなら荷物が多すぎて

and it'll be really crowded with rush hour

込んでいる電車に乗りたくないから

So, I'm going to be really hot and sweaty no matter what.

どうせ汗をかくなら

So I might as well go now when there's less people

こんばんは！

Welcome to my new apartment!!!

私の新しいアパートにようこそ！

It's pretty bare though!

何もないのに。

But I got the majority of my stuff here in 1 go

ほぼ全部荷物を持ってきたの。

I have to go back next week

来週また寮に帰って

to like move out of the dorm and like

手続きを終わって

close things up

部屋をみて

and that's when I'll pick up the last odds and ends

残った小物を全部集めて

and do a final clean up

部屋を掃除するの。

But for now, my main luggage is here.

一応、大体引っ越してきたかな。

The other day I posted photos on Twitter

この間、ツィッターで写真を投稿して

and there was someone who commented

誰かがコメントしたんだけど

"Can you explain how you got your apartment

「どうやってアパートを見つけたのか

and the whole process and share your tips with us?"

外国人としてのコツを教えて繰らない」と

I thought that's a great idea

いいアイディアだと思って

so I wanted to briefly run through the whole thing

今日は少し時間をとって、

and let you know how that went.

どうやってできたのかを説明したいです。

So my case was not standard at all.

基本的に、私の場合は異常だった。

Basically, I moved to Japan 3 months ago

3ヶ月前、日本に引っ越してきたんだけど

and before that

その前、

I started sending emails to all my old host moms

前一緒に住んでいたホストママや

and families and friends

ファミリーや友達にメールして

and I let them know that I'm moving to Japan

日本に引っ越すのをしらせて

I'm starting Graduate School

後、大学院に入学することも

and I'm moving into a dorm

最初に寮に住むことと

but very soon after I will need to move out

着いたら、早くアパートに移動しなきゃことも

and find an apartment.

全部伝えたの。

One that's dog friendly and has space for everyone

もちろん、ワンちゃんもぶーちゃんも来れるようなアパートだっと

And one of my host moms, like an angel, reached out

一人のホスト・ママがこう返信したけど：

and basically said "I think I have a place for you"

ぴったりのアパートあるかもと書いて

and she basically put me in touch

知り合いを紹介してくれたの。

with someone that she knows who rents apartments

この人は家主で、

and was gracious enough to rent this huge space to me

こんなアパートを借りてくれたの。

and on top of that, there was no ridiculous Key Money

それに、礼金なども全くなくて

or 3 months up front or first and last months rent,

前もって2・3月分の家賃とかじゃなくて

like, I didn't have to pay 3x my rent just to move in here

入った日から、その家賃だけを支払ったの。

she basically understood that

すごく親切で、配慮してくれたんだけど、

I'm in the middle of a huge change

ロレッタがまだ分からないと分かって

and was so gracious by letting me rent this apartment!

やさしくて、丁寧に契約を交わしてくれたのです。

Pretty much zero, hassle-free!!!

苦労したのはほぼゼロだったの！

Yayy~! And I'm SO greatful!!

ですから、すごく感謝しています！

Usually, the way it works in Japan

普段の場合は、

is that you need to have a guarantor

保証人が必要

so you need to have a Japanese person vouch for you

特に外国人の場合、保証してくれる日本人や

or you need a private company that will do that for you

そのような会社が必要で難しいです。

to make sure that if you do leave Japan

なぜなら、変な事情があったら

and like you bail and never pay your rent

たとえば、いきなり帰国する場合だったら、

the landlord or landlady is guaranteed

その大家さんがお金を存しないように保証するの。

that they will be compensated still.

大家さんを守るためのルールです。

In addition to that you usually have to pay

保証人以外の必要なものは

Key Money, 1st months rent, etc.

礼金や前もって1・2月の家賃代。

you can almost pay up to three months rent up front

合計で、3ヶ月分ぐらいを支払いますけど。

so, I was able to come here

私はそういうのじゃなくて、

and able to come to this apartment

もっと簡単に、入ったの。

which is dog friendly, huge and bright

ワンちゃんもOK,広くて、綺麗なアパートで

wonderful and set up and really cheap

それから、寮並びのような値段なので

which is a huge help!

すごく助かりました！

I was able to get all of that simply because

外国人の皆さんに説明したいです。

I said this in a video before but

前も言ったけど

I think one of the most helpful things that you can do

外国人として、アドバイスというと

whenever you come to Japan

日本に来る時は、

is to really take care of your relationships.

お世話になって人との関係を守ること。

So if you stay with a friend, or a host family

友達やホストファミリーの家の泊まったら

or if someone does you a favor, whatever

日本人が手伝ってくれたら場合は

if you get along with them, even remotely

もちろん、うまくいかなかった経験は

as long as it's not a bad experience,

別な話なんだけど、

keep up that relationship.

その関係を大切にしてください。

For me, my host mom who set up this apartment for me

たとえば、このアパートを紹介して

and guaranteed the whole thing and got it set up

保証してくれた前のホスト・ママは

I lived with her almost

ホスト・ママになって、同居したのは

It was 2009... so...

2009年だったから

2016 minus 2009...

今、2016年で・・・

seven years ago!

もう7年前のこと！

I lived with her seven years ago!

7年前にあったの！

and ever since then

あれからずっと、

I sent her christmas cards, birthday cards, emails

毎年、年賀状、誕生日カード、メールなどを送って

During Japan's Great Earthquake, in 2011

日本大震災のころも、安否を確認したくて

when that happened I called her immediately

むこうからすぐ電話したんだけど

probably jammed up the phone line which wasn't good

大変な時にも

I called her immediately and was like

「大丈夫？」と連絡したの。

how are you doing, are you ok?!

日本人のホスト・ファミリーがたくさんいるけど

I have a lot of host families here in Japan

今にも感謝しているから、毎年、ちゃんと挨拶するの。

and I try to stay in touch with each one of them

先週アップした京都に行った動画も

and the video I posted last week about going to Kyoto

おみこしを担ぐことができたから

and carrying the shrine in the parade

どうやったできたのかと聞いているコメントがあったけど、

I had some comments asking, how did I get to do that

それも、他のホストママで

its because I stayed in touch with that host mom

6年前に住ませていただいたんだけど、

and I lived with her SIX years ago!

つまり、結構前からの関係を

Like, these are OLD relationships that

今にもちゃんとコミュニケーションとっているからできたの。

I try to keep up with, even to this day

ですから、私のアドバイスは

So my advice to you, is basically,

ここにきて、日本人にあったら

if you meet someone

お世話になることがあったら

and your experience is remotely good

毎年必ず

make sure every year,

誕生日カードとか年賀状、なんでもいいけど、

keep a record of their birthday or at least new years

Eメールでも郵便でもいいけど

know their email and their physical address

せめて、毎年一回ぐらい挨拶して、その関係を

try to keep up with them at least once a year

大切にしてください。

and keep the relationship going

そうすれば、いつか困った時があったら

because if you keep up with people

その人もまた手伝ってくれるのかもしれません。

you almost ensure that they'll be there for you

あるいは、

if you need them in the future

私も場合もそうだったけど

and if you're really fortunate like I was

こんな奇跡みたいなことで

you may even end up with a ridiculous situation

手伝ってくれるのかもしれません。

that probably shouldn't have been given to you but

本当にうれしくて感謝しています！

My life just got so much easier.
