Today I'm up bright and early, it's a little before 7:00 a.m.

But I'm here to try something new

でもまだやったことないことにトライしたくてここに来ましたよ

I'm going to try the all-inclusive bus tour

これから福島大学の学生さんがつくった

that the students from the Fukushima University put together

見所てんこ盛りのバスツアーに行きます。

I'm going to see if I can go buy a ticket and we're gonna get on our way!

さあチケットを買って行ってきます

Today I'm headed back to Aizu-Wakamatsu.

今日はまた会津若松に再訪しますよ。

Last time I visited here I came by bullet train

前回は新幹線で行ったんですけど

but you can actually get here more easily and cheaply by a direct, highway JR bus!

今回はラクに安く行けるJR高速バスの方で行きます

Many people know Aizu-wakamatsu as a castle city

会津若松は日本が現代化する

that's one of the last places that fought

前の侍の生活様式を残そうと戦った

to keep the traditional, samurai way of life before the modernization of Japan.

最後の城下町の一つとして有名です。

Today the city still boasts its rich culture

今日は会津若松が誇る文化溢れる

through historic spots and some new local favorites which you can visit

歴史的な場所や新たな人気スポットを、

through the city's little golden ticket, the Ochoko Pass.

市内をめぐることのできるこの おちょこパスで行って見たいと思います。

So here it is, the Ochoko Pass!

おっ、これがおちょこパスですね。

You show them the date on the back, and you're free to ride, all day long!

運転手さんに裏面に記載の日付を見せてくださいね。１日中使えますよ。

One of the things about traveling in Japan is that it's pretty easy to get to a lot of places

日本旅行の特徴の一つとしてたくさんの場所に簡単に行けるんですよ。

but once you're there sometimes its hard to get around within the city.

でも実際行ってみたらたまに市内を回ることが大変な場所もあるんですけどね。

But one of the things I appreciate here in Aizu-Wakamatsu already

すでに会津若松でいいなって思っているところが

is that there are two buses dedicated to getting you around.

っているところがこの２ルート使えるおちょこパスが市内を回るのにすごい役に立つんです。

And all you have to do is show your pass, get on and ride!

見せて乗るだけですよ。

So let's check out the first spot here...

さあて最初に行くところは...

The next spot is Cafe Taro,

次はCafe Taroです。

a jazzy joint that makes Agetaro, which is kind of like a deep-fried donut

揚げ太郎というじっくり揚げたパストリーをつくっているジャズも楽しめるお店です。

for a discount when you show your Ochoko pass.

おちょこパスを見せれば割引になりますよ。

I got the "Anko" (red bean) flavor agetaro!

あんこ味の揚げ太郎にしました。

No idea what this is going to taste like...

どうやったらこんな味になるのかわからないです

There's anko (red beans) inside, and a sugar coating on the outside

んーあんこが中に入ってるんですね。 表面は砂糖のコーティングですかね。

it's still crispy and still kind of like fluffy on the inside and perfectly warm.

クリスピーなのにふんわりしていて中はあったかいですね。

There's a CASTLE here!

おっ、お城だお城！

Inside the castle is museum commemorating the Aizu people

中は会津の人々を讃えた博物館になっています。

and on top of the castle is a breathtaking view

城のてっぺんは息を呑むほどの景色、

and a detailed history of how the town was once burned in a fire during the Civil War

そして戊辰戦争中いかにして城下町全体が焼けつくしたかの歴史が事細かに記されています。

Afterwards I made my final stop for the day at Matsudaira's Royal Garden

それから旅館に向かう前に

before heading home to our Ryokan for the night

最後に御薬園に行きました。

It's so calm and peaceful in here!

ここはとっても静かですね。

おはようございます、２日目です。ここは会津若松！

This little beauty got us around town yesterday pretty well

このかわいらしいおちょこ、とってもいいですね。

with discounts and free stuff like the green tea

素晴らしい特典や割引もありますし。お茶とか。

but it's over today, since it's only a 1-day pass.

でも１日だけなんですよね、

So I'm going to get a ticket for the same local bus

また手に入れなきゃ。

so without the ochoko pass I won't get the same discounts but

おちょこパスなしで同じローカルバスに乗っても割引は受けられないんです。

but it's still going to be fun and easy to get around

まあそれでも楽しく簡単に回れるんですけどね。

but first I wanted to show you the room that I stayed in!

とりあえず泊まった部屋をお見せしたいと思います。

it's right on the water, there's hot springs,

お部屋はとっても広くていくつかスペースがあるんです。

the room is pretty big, there's a lot of space here

これがベッドで、窓からは景色がはっきりと見えます。

you can see the bed back there, and there's the view from the windows!

トイレもきれいでマーブル調がいいですね。

The bathroom's pretty nice! It has these marble accents.

バスまであと３０分だから荷物詰めて出なきゃ！

but the bus is coming in half an hour so I'm gonna get packed and get out the door!
