今回はちょっと風強いけど、

of Tsuruga!

敦賀市へようこそ！

About six months ago I made a video here during the summer

去年の夏、6か月前ぐらいに、 敦賀市を回って動画で紹介したんですけど、

it's so crazy to be back here during the winter!

今回は冬の敦賀市を見に来ました！

We are are actually shooting a series for NHK World!

なぜかというと、NHKワールドの番組でゲストレポータとして出演することになりました！

We just did the opening scene over by the train station

先ほど、駅前で最初のシーンを撮影したんですけど、

And now we're gonna go and check out the city

これから町へ出かけて

I'm really excited to be back and see what else there is

I feel like this is the first time I did a full-on cosplay.

人生初めてのコスプレだけどね！

This is very full-on for me!

なんか本格的な感じで少し恥ずかしい！

Plus my boots match perfectly!

だけど、ブーツがぴったり！

But you guys didn't expect to see this now, huh?

この姿で出るなんて、なんかすごくない？

So there's actually a famous anime called Galaxy Express 999

実は、「銀河鉄道999】というとても有名なアニメが あるんですけど、

and I'm here at this store that actually

この文具屋さんを尋ねたら、なんと

lets you try on their costumes for free!

コスプレ体験を無料で提供しているようですね！

There are monuments along the shopping streets here

外の商店街にも同じキャラクターの像があっちこっちに設置してあって、

so you can pose with the statue that you're dressed like.

自分の好きなキャラクターと一緒にポーズできますね！

So I picked the "Conductor" first!

There's a fish market in Tsuruga that we visited before

前回も同じ魚の直売している所も出たんですけど、

and today we came back because they have a special treat!

今日とても特別があるらしいです。

It was snowing really hard earlier.

先ほど、雪がすごい強かったけど

It finally just started to die down so either way

今はそんなに降っていないです。

I'm excited see what they've got this season!

皆ユウコさん覚えていますか？

In the video that I did in Tsuruga last time

前回の敦賀市の動画も、

I think we were standing in this same order, too!

まったく同じ感じでカメラを向けて撮影したと思う！

Yeah, but we're back and I got to meet Yuuko again.

今回はやっぱりまたユウコさんと一緒ですが、

This time she let me eat delicious Echizen Crabs

とても高級な越前が二をいただいて

which are only available in this season!

冬しか手に入れないカニを堪能しました！

But I also have to eat something a little different

それに、ちょっと怪しいものもあったんですね！

We don't normally eat it in the States, but I ate the...

アメリカではほとんど食べないものですが・・・

the "kani-miso" (brown meat)

カニみそ・・・

You made me eat it!!!

食べさせられた！！！

LOL!YEP!!

ああははははｗ！！

How was it, honestly???

でも本当にどうですか？お味は？

It was a little bitter, but still good!

少し苦いですね。

It really tasted like scrambled eggs!

なんか、 スクランブルエッグの歯ごたえに

But...with a little bitterness to it.

少し苦いの味加えたものみたいですね。

So I'm having new experiences again thanks to Yuuko.

ユウコさんのおかげで、こんなのも初体験できました！

There's are snow crabs all across the Japan sea

日本では、色んなズワイガニの種類があるのですが、

across the bay and along the coast

ここ、日本海では、特に敦賀市で

but in Tsuruga they specifically call it "Echizen Crab"

いわゆる「越前ガニ」という名前で

which refers to what they sell here,

とても高級レベルの種類を販売して、

a local delicacy that can only be found here,

すごくローカルで、

in winter, during these months.

冬の間しか手に入れないものです。

So we're at just the right place, and just the right time!

ちょうどいいときにちょうどいい場所にいる　っていうことですね！

Ok, it's ready!!!

はい、できました！

We've made it to the famous Echizen crab!

来ましたよ！越前ガニ！！！

So one of the places we're visiting in Tsuruga,

次訪ねたスポットは

I didn't get to see it last time so it's my first time now

前回見れなかったけど、

this is almost like a museum

なんと、博物館みたいな感じだけど、

but this was a house over 100 years ago

100年ほど前にあった家を

that's now been converted into this place with an exhibit

展示会できるスペースに変えたみたいです。

of these adorable little

とてもかわいらしい

traditional "washi" paper doll figurines!

和紙の手作り人形です！

They're depicting these beautiful scenes.

本当に美しいですね。

At a glance it looks like cute dolls or just adorable Japanese figurines

ただ可愛い人形さんではなく、

but when you really look closely you start to see

近づいてよく見たら、

all of the tiny, intricate details

手間かけて、細かいところと

and also the humor of the original artist!

作った人のユーモアも伝わってきますね！

There's little cats and little dogs,

私、あっちこっちにいるにゃんこ・わんこたちとても好きで、

and in the little books there are even words written inside

本の中に小さい文字まで書いた細かさに驚きました！

Oh! look little dogs over here. They're so cute!

可愛い、このワンちゃん！

The actual figurines don't have any faces on them

人形には顔が書いていないですね。

because you're supposed to impose your own expression onto their faces

なぜなら、見ている人に想像してもらうために、こんなデザインにしたらしいです。

but looking at them, their bodies still show so much movement

でも、体の位置とかで

and so much expression just in the way they're placed

動作と表情がはっきり伝わってきます。

So it's really easy to kind of put yourself into the scene

なんか、引かれますね！

and reimagine it

想像しちゃう！

each one is a different scene but

色んなシーンがあるのですけど、

they're all so fun and extra whimsical!

どれも気まぐれで、とても好きです！

These are just a few snapshots from my point of view

今回はちょっと軽い感じで敦賀市のすきなところを見せたのですが、
