  • Hello, I'm Julian.

  • Operate from doing english dot com.

  • A good ask Judy in question came in.

  • I'm learning and learning and learning, yet I never reached the advanced level, Arida asks.

  • This one is simple.

  • If you are learning and learning and learning yet never improved, it means the method you are using is either not right for your goals or you are learning the wrong thing.

  • Or there is something seriously wrong going on up here in terms off.

  • The mindset in the attitude that you have improving in English requires three things to be correct.

  • You need a method which works for your goals.

  • For example, if you are trying to speak natural sounding fluent English and what you are doing is studying yet MAWR grammar rules every day, learning about difficult tenses on DL of that stuff that you probably did when you were at school, memorizing yet more vocabulary words, usually from lists and beak.

  • Clever sounding words that actually most native speakers don't really understand or use either.

  • Well, you're not going to get the results that you want to get, and I give you a hint.

  • If that's what you are doing, you are probably making your speaking problems worse, not better.

  • You also need to be learning the right thing.

  • The materials that you use must give you natural native like Sam paws off the English you actually want to use in the real well.

  • For example, if you want to get good at conversational English and you're studying the newspaper well, totally different type of English.

  • Therefore, what you are doing is completely useless.

  • I did my PhD research on this, looking at the textbooks that get used in schools and get used by a lot of students.

  • And you know what the language contained in those textbooks is rubbish.

  • It's no like the language used in the real world.

  • Therefore, filling your head up with that stuff does nothing to help you speak better and conversation.

  • You've got to use materials that are matched to situations you want to use English in.

  • If you want to be speaking in conversation, you need to be studying materials rich in natural sounding chunks of conversational English.

  • Make sense Good.

  • You've also got to get your attitude and your mindset right, because ultimately, if you believe you can't do it, you won't do it.

  • You won't make use of the opportunities that come your way.

  • You won't do the things in English that you could do.

  • And therefore you won't get the results that you want to get anyway, even if you're using the best method in the world and the most amazing materials in the world.

  • If your attitude is telling you, I can't do this and so you don't do it, then it'll doesn't mean anything.

  • It all makes no difference whatsoever.
