  • They are: So-hara, Seka-Hara, Rei-Hara,

  • Sweets harassment? - That's right.

  • Hey guys I am the director of Ask Japanese - And Cathy Cat and today we're gonna talk about...

  • Japanese weird harassments. Start! - Ok start

  • So-hara. - So hara???

  • The first thing I can think of is Japanese Samurai Sword-Harassment.

  • That's not harassment, that would kill people!!!

  • Guess so. - Socccc - Social Harassment? Social Network?

  • Harassment? - That's it. - I see.

  • That we all know about, social networking harassment!!!

  • I think it exists abroad. - It's a real problem!!! - In Japan there is a new side to it

  • In Japan, if you have Facebook and your superior ...

  • and you become friends on facebook...

  • you have to LIKE your superiors posts.

  • What? THAT's what you mean? So it's not bullying online

  • with comments ... It's a different type of harassment. - The one you mentioned is just bullying.

  • You have to like your superiors posts....

  • I often get asked why I didn't befriend colleagues (though I don't use facebook anymore either)

  • Colleges and superiors will be angry if you don't like their posts. It might affect your work,

  • A hobby like Facebook turns into work if you do that.

  • It's similar to Alcohol-Harassment. Higher ups in companies pressure the lower ranks.

  • It's part of power harassment. Japan has a high hierarchy environment.

  • In Japan we call it "buttering up the higher ups"

  • We have to lift up the higher ups

  • And this problem reaches our social networking services now too

  • We have to "like" their posts to keep them happy

  • If you feel like you HAVE to it's no fun

  • "Why do I have to like it, when though I don't want to?" That's So-Hara

  • Or forcing workers to do TikTok because the higher up wants them to

  • Even if you don't want to

  • But higher ups make the lower workers do it. Same for Youtube maybe

  • "I have seen one person succeed on YouTube, so you have to do it too now."

  • "Why are you not following that one person?" - That power over others is very Japanese.

  • I wonder if that's the same abroad. - The generation of our parents

  • will expect us to follow and like even though we don't want it... it's the older gen

  • If this problem exists in your country leave us a comment!

  • Yes leave us a comment.

  • Seka-Hara.... - Seka? To hurry someone? - Wrong.

  • The Seka stands for Second Harassment. - Second Harassment???

  • Getting harassed and then harassed by someone else who sees it??

  • Close! Second stands for the second time a harassment occurs.

  • For example. A worker is made to work too much.

  • He will complain to HR about this harassment.

  • But because he reported it, others will say...

  • "He's a looser for complaining like that."

  • And then his salary will get reduced because he reported the harassment.

  • Harassment for reporting harassment.

  • So the company won't really help a struggling worker.

  • And such. - A company or superior not understanding the situation properly

  • For complaining about power or sexual harassment....

  • you get bullied at work for it. - It will impact a workers life a second time

  • That's the most awful outcome.

  • Makes you want to quit the job. - All types of harassment are awful

  • I am Cathy Cat!

  • Rei-Hara... - Rei? Like Layer? Cosplayer?

  • Oh noooo not Cosplayer harassment. What would that be?

  • That person cosplayssss - Cathy you know that harassment a lot. Racial stereotypes

  • Oh! Ok ok

  • I think you have been told some of these things at work

  • Using the fact that you are German for whatever. - Happens all the time

  • Oh man yeah. - You are German so you like beer right?

  • You prefer wine. - Well yeah

  • Prejudice, racial stereotypes. - Those stereotypes/

  • People will file you away for being a certain type of person. That harassment.

  • Because you're from another country. - The image Japanese have of another country

  • will decide how they treat you. Even though it depends on each person.

  • Germans like beer and sausages. Japanese people like sushi. Like that? - Yeah

  • There is a similar harassment like Racial Harassment within Japan too.

  • Judging people for what area they are from? - Right. - Kansai people ....

  • "all like Okonomiyaki" like that? - I don't like it that much though

  • I hear "You're from Kansai so you can do Okonomiyaki" but I am from futher out Mie

  • Not really. I didn't have a Takoyaki grid at home ....

  • "You are that person because you come from this area" - Also...

  • Half Japanese people struggle from that even more.

  • "Because you are half XX country you can run faster."

  • We have done a street interview about that on this Channel

  • Wow close... - Tiny!

  • In our interviews many will say "Foreigners are pretty because they are foreigners"

  • things like that. But that might be Racial Harassment too.

  • I often hear "Foreigners have nice long noses" - Yeah

  • Japanese beauty ideals of foreigners are long noses and eyelid creases

  • and that's said to be cute. Some foreigners might not think so

  • right. That's a Racial stereotype many Japanese still have though

  • Some foreigners might get hurt from these comments. - Even if they're meant positively

  • Some Japanese people might use Racial harassment without knowing

  • Sui-Hara. - Maybe Sweets Harassment?

  • That's true!!! - I love sweets. How can you harass others with sweets??

  • Well ... - Forcing others to eat sweets???

  • True. - Even though you don't eat many sweets,

  • I often put a lot of nice sweet for you on your desk... - That could be harassment. - WHAT

  • I just wanted to be nice.... - And might have harassed me without knowing.

  • Scary right? Especially with people who are on a diet.

  • Giving people on a diet many sweets and such...

  • That's sweets harassment. - Someone did that to me...

  • Or knowingly eating sweets in front of the person who is dieting. - YOU did that

  • to ME when I tried to diet!!!! - Sorry. - Next time I will call you out on it!

  • I'll say Sweet Hara! - It's called Sui-Hara the one with sweets

  • That's a common thing. I bet that's happening abroad too!!!

  • Everytime I am dieting, the friends around me knowingly eat sweet things!!!

  • It happens! - Yeah. - That's a real thing that Suihara! Stop it!

  • So guys let us know harassments that are in your country

  • that might be a very cultural thing. These all seem to be very cultural to Japanese culture

  • and not bothering other people. - We care for others

  • a lot in this country and that's why we can bother other more.

  • There is gonna be more and we are gonna find out more for you. Don't forget to be subscribed, hit that subscribe button

  • hit it with you finger, your ellbow, your nose...

  • hit that subscribe button. Wait is that "Subscribe Harassment? - Sub-Hara?

  • I guess that goes into the "So-Hara" category. - Social Harassment right.

  • If you force people to subscribe. Please do nevertheless.

  • Please be nice and subscribe but you don't have to if you don't want! And like

  • Please please! You don't have to but we really want you to please. - Bye!!!

  • Byeeee
