  • Hi there. It's Richard McMunn from the police recruitment training website, How2Become.com!

  • And in this tutorial, I'm going to cover the police officer core competency, IMPARTIALITY

  • with regards to the police officer interview element of the selection process. So, if you

  • are applying to become a police officer and you're getting ready for your interview, I

  • strongly recommend you watch this video from beginning to end, because it will make a big

  • difference to your preparation. Please don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to the channel by clicking

  • the red button below the video. And I'd also appreciate it if you gave the video a LIKE,

  • because that tells me you enjoy the content and I'll create more for you. Now, these video

  • forms part of a four video series. I have put the other three training videos in the

  • description below the video. So please do check them out once you've finished watching

  • this particular video. There are four latest police officer core competencies, and they

  • are integrity, public service, impartiality, which I will cover during this video, and

  • transparency. The other three are covered in the other videos that I've uploaded for

  • you. You will be assessed during the interview against IMPARTIALITY. What does that mean?

  • Well, police officers must be capable of acting with impartiality at all times whilst undertaking

  • their role. As a police officer with any of the UK police forces, you will be required

  • to operate under a code of conduct that encompasses values and ethics. You need to be fair in

  • all that you do. Act with objectivity when dealing with the public. So you must never

  • let your feelings get the better of you. You must always act in line with a code of conduct

  • laid down by the police, and you must always follow all rules and procedures appropriate

  • to your work. Let's take a look at a number of example police officer interview questions

  • that are based on the core competency of impartiality. I will give you one question. I will give

  • you a sample answer. I will then give you further questions to prepare for, and I will

  • tell you where you can download my full set of answers to all of the competencies. So

  • the first question around this core competency is: Describe a time when you took into account

  • someone else's needs? Here is my suggested answer. “In a previous job, I noticed a

  • work colleague was not performing to her usual standard. I could detect something was not

  • right. And so I decided to do something about it. I felt it was my task to speak to her,

  • to find out if she was OK and to try and help her get back to her usual standard of working.

  • I was concerned for her welfare, and so I decided to take action. I spoke to my colleague

  • in private and asked her if everything was okay. I told her I had seen her work performance

  • deteriorate and that I was concerned. She confided in me that her partner had left her,

  • and she was feeling depressed. At that stage, I sympathized with her situation and suggested

  • we speak to our human resources department to get some support through counselling, which

  • she agreed to. Now, my intervention and my ability to remain impartial and non-judgmental,

  • resulted in my work colleague feeling supported and getting the help she needed during a difficult

  • time. Two months after I first spoke to her, she was back to a normal self, feeling better

  • and also working back to full capacity.” So that shows that you've identified there's

  • a situation. You've decided to take positive action. You've remained impartial and you

  • have also been non-judgmental, and you've taken into account their specific needs during

  • that situation. Let's take a look at some more sample questions I recommend you prepare

  • for. Tell me a situation when you communicated an important message to the same group of

  • people? That's a tough question! Describe a time when you used the information available

  • to make an objective decision? Explain a time when you listened to someone else's perspective?

  • Describe a time when you demonstrated equality or fairness? Explain a time when you supported

  • or promoted equality and diversity at work? If you want to download my FULL SET of core

  • competency interview questions and answers for the police officer selection process.

  • If you click the link in the top right hand corner of the video, it takes you through

  • to my website her: How2Become.com. We've been going for about 15 years now. We've helped

  • many people past the police officer selection process. Scroll down to the bottom of the

  • page and you can download all four PDF guides of all of the sample interview questions and

  • answers contained within it for just £17 plus vat. So, for basically around about £20,

  • you can get all of my suggested answers in your inbox within two minutes from now! Don't

  • forget to check out the other three videos in this series. The links are in the description

  • below the video and they will really help you to create your own answers for the police

  • officer select process. Thank you very much for watching and have a brilliant day.
