I think part of the reason for this is that I feature the original auto lock in video number 7 96 where I showed that it could be cut in about two seconds.

Interestingly, in an interview with bike Portland dot org's which I will also link below, the president of Auto Lock said, My video was quote highly produced or under extremely controlled or tuned conditions, essentially a subtle way of calling me deceptive.

He also said that they were unable to replicate my result, which is interesting, because the same article reveals that the Portland Police Bike Theft Taskforce warned auto lock that the product was vulnerable to tin snips just like these.

They also said that they're carried by quote about half of the criminals they arrest, but that is all behind us now because we have auto locks, Improved product.

The Hex Band hex refers to the six layers of steel in the strap for reference.

The original auto lock had three layers further.

Each of the hex band Steel layers are apparently thicker because auto lock advertises 2.5 times the steel.

So apparently this is supposed to fix the problem.

And Auto Lock has a couple of videos on YouTube showing snips just like the's stopped cold by the Hex Band.

So today we're going to explore whether these snips are a threat to the hex band.

First, of course, we will see if the snips can cut through the entire strap it once all six layers.

I suspect that the hex band will fare well.

They're given that the company seems to have built this to address the threat.

Even so, I will take a trust but verify approach.

If that doesn't work, I am sure that a divide and conquer approach will be more effective, simply sliced through the plastic with a knife, then cut a few bands at a time.

The only question there will be how long it takes and whether it's a practical attack.
