I love my dress, I love my dress, I love my dress..
Q: Donna writes,
I'm a Pampered Chef consultant and I was told by a friend who is a "Marketing Expert" that
I should NEVER "hock my wares" on Facebook. I'm currently doing this in a more discreet
way...i.e. offering recipes, showing recipes that I've cooked with the PC products and
have never posted an item with a price, etc or I've never come out and said "Please Buy My Sh*t."
I had a separate FB page for my business but I didn't get that much activity and felt it
was more my style to use my regular page and use my creativity and humor. It seems to be
working.
My fear is that people will automatically see my name and think "Oh no, here she goes
again!" and bypass me all together. So, my question is what's the right way to use Facebook
for your business?
A: My answer Miss Donna is it all depends! I will say straight up that I'm not a Facebook
expert. There are tons of people in the social media, interweb space who know a lot more
about this subject than I do. One person who you should go and consult with is Amy Porterfield.
She wrote a book all about facebook marketing and you can see it right here..
But since you asked me, I'm gonna tell you my take in YOUR situation.
If the majority of your "friends" on your personal Facebook page are acquaintances and
business colleagues, then keep doing your thing. They are likely gonna want to see the
kind of things you are posting right now. Those people are most likely interested in
your business persona, and that's the exactly the kind of posts they want to see from you.
But if your Facebook friends are mostly actual friends, then you're gonna wanna mix it up
in a lot of personal updates along with your promotional ones.
If you post a steady stream of promotion, then yes: your actual friends will say "here
she goes again." And they're either gonna hide your stream, or they'll un-friend you.
Here's my general rule of thumb: You need to go PRO with your business and that means
anything that you're doing with your business, you're gonna go balls to walls and really
do it! Let me translate: that means if you're going to use Facebook for marketing, just
have a straight up FB page for your business then you can promote the hell of everything
you want to promote. You can use your creativity, humor, all that good stuff girl.
I know you said you tried that, but I'll bet you gave up way too soon. Building up a new
page with high engagement does take time but If you're planning to be in business for the
long-term, girl you need stop screwing around and just get to work!
I gotta be straight with you, I don't use Facebook at ALL for personal purposes. My
real friends in real life I either talk with them on the phone or I see them in person.
On my business Facebook page, I share a mix of both personal posts and business updates which
is a perfect mix for my business and my brand.
Now when it comes the question of whether or not you're "annoying people" with your
marketing - here's my philosophy. You always want to GIVE 10 times more than you ever ask
for in return.
That's why I GIVE away my best content like 99% of the stuff for FREE right here on MarieTV
and over at MarieForleo.com. My mission is to really help people change their businesses
and change lives. Now yes, I sell things too, but I still go with the same philosophy -- I
want to give people at least 10X the value of whatever they pay me.

And honestly, with my business, if someone doesn't like what I'm sharing - I want them
