  • since the day.

  • I wanted to talk about something that a lot of you guys have been noticing and commenting on, which is that I wear a lot of neutrals.

  • I do this for several specific reasons.

  • So I just kind of wanted to hash through all of those today and talk about why I intentionally decided to have a neutral wardrobe.

  • It's not because I don't like to have fun and I don't like colors, and I just want to live in this black and white world.

  • But it actually is very beneficial to when I wanted to completely revamp my closet, make it more my style, and every piece has its purpose in my closet.

  • Now it's a real quick.

  • My neutral color scheme really consists of blacks, whites, gray's brown tones and rust tones.

  • And then also I like to use, like Ivory's and creams, so like different shades there in.

  • But also I like to wear a lot of denim.

  • I consider denim to be really neutral, and I also like to wear like a lot of metallic colors as well, so either that's going to be in my jewelry.

  • I'll wear lots of gold or it might be something on my bag or something like that really makes an outfit look a lot more fancy or like not boring just by adding more metallics.

  • I also like to wear prints of those colors, so I've got my color scheme.

  • But I don't just wear those solid ones.

  • I might do something that's like a minimal horizontal stripes or polka dot sometimes.

  • But I'm even careful when I do those things like I try to pick ones that will stand the test of time.

  • It's really the timelessness of neutrals.

  • Why like it so much?

  • If you look back at the decades of our past of what outfits or colors stood the test of time.

  • It's the ones that you know is a classic black dress, you know, or something very basic like that, which is actually great because fashion itself is not timeless.

  • It's like the antithesis of timeless.

  • There's things that I really liked the last season that are already like out, which is just silly, you know, is absolutely silly, too.

  • Criticize what you thought was tasteful last month.

  • You know, like you need to respect yourself in that I think so.

  • That's really why I like to wear things that are timeless and ones that I think that are really important to be able to look back and say, I'm so glad that I made that purchase and that I didn't go with the crazy green para pants I went with, like the classic one first.

  • And that is really why I think that it's important to be ableto have timeless neutral pieces.

  • The second reason why I really liked to wear neutrals is because it makes your outfit look higher end even though it isn't necessarily.

  • I could pile on a ton of patterns and colors, but that might actually cheapen the look that I'm going for.

  • And so if I'm looking more intentional or like more curated in my outfit than it actually looks more put together and there's ways to play with the neutral colors that might be a bit boring just by adding textures.

  • Linen is one of the greatest neutral fabrics out there if it's not died, and it had such a rich, classic texture to an outfit that otherwise wouldn't be.

  • The third reason that I love neutrals is because I just naturally gravitate to them I have all of the years that I have been planning out my house anytime that I am decorating for my house.

  • It's neutral any time that I'm doing makeup.

  • I love a neutral palette that I can play up with shades, and it's just really nice to be able to see what I can do with a limited color palette.

  • In fact, I've been doing a lot of inter decorating inspiration on my Pinterest board if you want to check that out.

  • But the entire thing is just a curated board of beautiful neutral rooms with beautiful pieces of furniture, so definitely check that out if you want.

  • Thio.

  • I'm definitely looking into updating a few things in my house, and it's just really exciting with all of that said.

  • It's really nice to have a more minimal color scheme, but you don't necessarily have to.

  • It's really important, though toe have a color scheme.

  • Number one.

  • You might be like me and just have a small living space.

  • I've got a tiny apartment Zach and I have both live in.

  • I've got one small closet.

  • That's all the room that I really have to work with.

  • Aside from like a dressers.

  • And so I really try to make things work, and it's just easier on my day to day schedule if I don't have to decide what matches that one specific color that I was wanting to wear today I'll have to do is like, pull two things out of my closet and they automatically match.

  • And they're just curated to go together already.

  • Next, If you have a color scheme, it's going to make your buying purchases so much easier when you go online and you're like, Oh, I really think that this fits me.

  • I think it would be so great, this one like crazy item that I want to buy for my closet.

  • How can I justify it?

  • While you can justify it a lot more if it's in your color scheme, it might be hard to justify something, whether you're gonna use that all the time.

  • If it's bright yellow and nothing else, that in your closet matches at all, whereas if you pick out something like when I was actually picking out this jumpsuit, I was like, You know what?

  • I really like that pink color that it comes in, and I really really want that one.

  • But I think first I'll try this black one that's in my color scheme already.

  • And if I love it, then if I find I need another jumpsuit, I can go and get the pink one.

  • So that's just kind of how that works.

  • Speaking of buying things online, I've been thinking about the idea of making a video of how I buy things online and the whole process.

  • There any tips I have, if that actually is something that you'd like to see them leave in the comments and tell me about If you'd like to see that or any other ideas you have the third reason that I think it's really important to have a color scheme of your choosing is really just because it means that you curated your closet and you're intentional with each purchase, I would say that's the key to any form of design.

  • All this means is that you were intentional.

  • That is the point of design is that you made a decision and you thought about it for atleast five minutes.

  • So those are really the reasons why I chose to go with a basic neutral wardrobe and color scheme.

  • But honestly, if you want to now figure out, like, how is it that I get one of those?

  • Or how do I pick a color scheme at all where to begin?

  • Then keep listening, because that's what I'm gonna go into next first thing you need to do is go into your closet and just taken inventory of what colors you own the most.

  • And think about what are the reasons why I owned that color of the most?

  • Is it because my job requires that I wear this color?

  • Or is it because of some lifestyle choice?

  • Or that you just honestly love that color those air things to consider?

  • First next is to look at photos that you took maybe from a past trip or something.

  • And just be honest with yourself about how did I feel in that color?

  • Was that like, perfect for where I was at the time?

  • Or is that something that I should wear all the time?

  • Or did that color just absolutely not work on me?

  • Just ask yourself those things.

  • Honestly, next is to go on Pinterest.

  • This is the first thing that I did is I just pinned photos of outfits that I like.

  • No one had to tell me to go on Pinterest and do this.

  • I'm sure that you already are doing this, but it's just really nice to be able to put together this board of photos that you really feel inspire you aesthetically and then try to find patterns out of it.

  • What colors were repeating throughout the whole board?

  • Maybe there's a few outliers on there that just don't really match the rest of it.

  • Those air things to really question and delete if you feel like they don't match the rest of this brand that you're building for yourself next is to do the same with your closet that you already own.

  • Narrow it down and figure out which colors really don't make sense for your day to day life.

  • When I first did this, I donated a lot of my clothes or else I sold some online.

  • When really cool thing to do is just to take those clothes and be like I can wash my car in this s o.

  • I do have, like a pile of clothes that I use for things I don't want to get dirty and you can always keep that aside if you have the space.

  • Once you figure out 123 colors that you love to wear and are absolutely going to make the short list for your closet is then important to decide on about six colors total that you're going to stick to so white, black grey are all ones that I would consider three colors to add.

  • But then you can add three more colors to that list.

  • Of course, this totally is up to you.

  • It doesn't have to be white, black, grey.

  • It could be six different shades of yellow.

  • Honestly, just do a little bit of color theory.

  • Research figure out on the color wheel which colors match each other, complement each other.

  • That's a great way to do a little bit of research, but there's also plenty of color generators online that you can do as well that I do for my, you know, design work.

  • But also you can do that for your own closet.

  • After you've done in depth research on color theory, then you can throw out everything you just learned and then decide for yourself what colors you feel the most confident and beautiful in, and that's it.

  • That's how you build a color scheme.

  • It's very simple.

  • There are rules, but there's not really rules their science.

  • But it's really not science at all is really just making sure that you have confident, intelligent, decisive decisions.

  • That's what matters the most.

  • And I hope that you've really enjoyed this video, and I will see you guys next time on Monday, right bye.

since the day.
