Hi everybody!
I am in the Youtube LA Space.
This is my kitchen. I feel really, really comfortable.
I can sit down here and I feel like living here
as long as I have a kitchen
Today, we are going to make Gim-gui.
Gim-gui is roasted seaweed sheets.
These guys are not roasted yet.
I will make about 20 sheets
Smells so good.
Like ocean smell.
This is called in Korean, Gim. And Japanese, Nori.
It contains a lot a lot of vitaimins, minerals and also protein.
It's very delicious!
Most of all, I love this smell. This is the sea aroma.
When you roast this, it gets super crispy and also brings out really flavour and colour!
So let's start!
First, we need two kinds of oil.
So I'm using grapeseed oil and sesame oil.
I'm going to roast 20 sheets today.
So 1 teaspoon salt
You can see the shiny part and rough part.
We are going to oil this only one part, the shiny part.
Just mix this
your oil
And
just like painting
And your left hand
just a little pinch of salt
sprinkle like this
But another way, my favourite way to spread this oil
is disposable glove, very fast!
Dip some and oohoo I forgot my Gim!
Here.
Sprinkle.
This is shiny part
Oil only one-side is going to be oiled
In Asian store, you can buy already pre-packaged and cut this roasted Gim
but in the old time, I used to make this like 100 sheets of Gim at one time.
I froze them and then whenever I need this, I use.
Good side dish for lunch box.
Oh!
I brought my lunch box today so I've invited some of my friends
we are going to eat together
so I'll show you what I brought!
Just little bit folded over like this.
And press down.
Let's grill!
So this is electric grill but you can use any pans
on the stove
but we need grill or pan and then we need this guy
a spatula
And this is uh temperature Fahrenheit 350, between 320 and 350.
And when you use the stove, use just only medium heat.
If it is too hot, it's going to be burnt.
So this shiny part lots of oil
the rough part
rough part down
Cook like this.
You remember how many times do this?
Around 15 times.
And another Gim,
and this, put it like this.
Look at the colour change!
It's green
And then another one, rough part up.
Really crispy.
It's fun, isn't it?
You like to join me?
You like to help me?
Roasted
Like this.
Nice, nice, nice.
So while we keep roasting,
and layering like this
and inside the sheets are going to get crispier.
7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15!
Done!
Yayyy!
Okay.
Then, I'm going to get rid of this my grill
Our Gim is so nice, crispy, smells so good
And see?
Can you see the colour change?
So we are going to cut into pieces.
See?
I make this way.
So when I make lunch box, you know, for my family, for myself
I make this way.
It always maintain crispiness.
This one for to-today's lunch.
If I put this and sometimes like windy it's going to fly away
so I'm going to use this.
Don't fly away!
Okay.
When you make this for your lunch box you don't have to put in this amount
only a dozen piece
you need this
But today this is going to be
you can keep in the freezer
and you can eat it anytime.
Press down
so all this air is... remove the air.
Okay, done!
Now, my friends are waiting for this
they want to taste the Gim-gui
so let's go
and I will show you my lunch box!
