G: I had just gotten to Japan and I thought, "Imperial Palace? That should be fine!" G: No. Don't. R: So, I'm going to pretend you're the expert on the Imperial garden, and I'm going to ask you all kinds of historical questions. G: OMG R: What is this wall for, Tourist Guide Grace? G: This wall was originally created in the BC 2000's. [FALSE] R: WOW. Oh lord. G: By people who carried the stones on their backs. G: I don't know! R: Wasn't the original palace in a different city in Japan? R: Weren't they originally- G: I know that one! It was Kyoto, right?? [TRUE] R: Yeah! R: [GASP] I can see the reflections of the buildings in the water! OMG it's GORGEOUS~ Look at that. I love that. R: Grace said you can ride tandem bikes here. G: Yeah. R: Or you used to be able to. R: Ryosuke and I rented tandem bikes with one of our friends who was pregnant. R: Aww! G: And then we were like, "WE'RE GOING TO BEAT YOU." R: [laugh] She was pregnant!! G: Well, her husband was the one who was biking. R: Oh, okay. G: She was just sitting on the back. G: But we raced a pregnant woman and we won. R: Congratulations! R: Look at all these Japanese trees! R: So maybe Japanese people don't know, but when we see these trees, us foreigners, this looks so Japanese to us, and we're like WOW~ It's so cool and traditional! And beautiful and zen. Are those police officers? On bicycles? Grace just said those are electric bikes! G: Yeah, you can see the little electric thing on there so they can bike for a lot longer. R: WHAT! I didn't know that was a thing!! G: Yeah, don't mess with them. They'll chase you down. R: I just made it so you guys can see more clearly. Because it's dark and I have a fancy camera. [GASP] IT'S A SAMURAI! G: Oh dang. R: ON A HORSE. G: Horse butt! R: Are we on the wrong end? We are on the wrong end. This is the horse butt end. WOOOAHH look at the tail flowing in the wind! So cool! He's so cooooool, look at his sword! His sword's so long! Statue of Kusunoki Masashige. TOUR GUIDE GRACE! Tell me his life story. G: He was born. He did battle. And then he died. Eventually. G: Possibly in battle. R: Wow... [TECHNICALLY TRUE] R: DUDE look at that horse's eye! It is like bulging crazy! Invisible bicycle Grace! FIRE BAN Woooahh look at all that gravel! You know a place is fancy in Japan when it's all covered in gravel. They do that at like shrines. G: The police guy's on the gravel! R: Go police guy, go! G: If you fill out a form ahead of time, you can book a tour to go on the inside. R: Oh! G: I've never done it G: because you have to fill out the form ahead of time, and I just don't have that kind of commitment. R: "KEEP OUT" R: I love Japanese police officer uniforms! They're so cool with the white gloves. It's like the same with the train station staff. It's very similar to train station staff! G: And taxi drivers. R: And taxi--and, like... yep. SO Tour Guide Grace, tell me about the effort that it took to make this moat here. G: Well, they had to fill it with cups of water. R: Oh god! G: Walking from Tokyo station. [NO] R: So uhh this was made during the same time we had Tokyo station? G: Yes, 100 years ago. They made this moat 100 years ago. R: 100 years ago... And that was also the same time Tokyo station came around? Or was around before that? G: Actually I DO know Tokyo station is 100 years old now. R: Oh, what! G: Yes. [TRUE] G: Ooo it's open! We can jump the fence, swim the moat, and make it there! R: But then the police officers on their motorized bikes are going to come get us. R: We can't outrun them. R: Walking on normal ground is so nice! G: The Emperor's granddaughter went to my school in Tokyo. R: WHAT! R: Did you talk to her? G: No, she was studying abroad when I was there. R: Oh. G: I met her once at a party. R: Oh! G: Like... saw her once at a party. R: Oh. R: Wow. G: I never talked to her. G: Dropping famous names left and right. R: Your story is changing gradually. R: "I know her." "She went to my school." "I met her once." "Actually, I just saw her at a party." G: Did I say that I knew her? She went to my school. R: Maybe you didn't. But I'm definitely going to voice over and say that you did say that when I edit this. [FLASHBACK] "I know the Emperor's granddaughter." R: [GASP] Swan! SWAN!!! SWAAAANNNNGRRHHABB I found a swan!! I love swans! Swaaaaan!! Swans mate for life~ [#SWANFACTS] There's a pet store in Nagoya. I went there a few years ago and they had a swan. And we just went back a couple months ago and they still have the swan. So no one's bought the swan. G: Are you gonna buy the swan? R: And I felt bad for him, because I felt like he needs a partner. A mate for life. I should buy him and bring him to this pond here, in this Imperial Palace, and give him to that swan there, and they can be mates. G: Or just good friends. R: Or friends. G: No pressure. R: See what happens, you know. Go on some swan dates. Let nature take its course. That bird is literally walking on the algae. We found more swans!! And birds. It's kinda cool how you have this old, traditional, Japanese-style stuff, and then you have the city right over here. And that is just gorgeous building reflection on the water. This is gorgeous!! Look how close up this swan shot- OOO he's eating somethin! Look, that's a leaf! He's putting a leaf on his body. What are you doing? What are you doing with that leaf? Do something about it. It's stuck on your body. OKAY GUYS! So that was the Imperial Palace, the most exciting part of which was that swan G: That swan! R: Trying to go across- G: He tried so hard. R: -that algae water. R: Good job, swan. G: Or she. R: Or she. R: We're gonna go find some swan friends for that swan- G: Yeah. R: -so he doesn't seem so lonely. R: BYE!!
