(bright classical music)
- What the?
(brakes squealing)
(engine revving)
Does anyone ever know what to do at these things?
- Does anyone ever know what to do at these things?
- Someone should do something about this.
- And that's where Allstate would like to help.
You see, we work with local safety experts
in the communities we serve to educate drivers
on safe driving and knowledge of the road,
people like Amy here.
- That's right, Greg.
The introduction of road safety measures,
like out roundabout here in Nepean, Ontario,
can often lead to confusion and even a spike in incidents
as local learns their changing infrastructure.
It's not the roundabout's fault.
- That's right, Amy!
Aren't they a necessary and beneficial way
to support the flow of traffic into our growing communities?
I mean, they're popular everywhere else in the world.
- Greg, you're so right.
What could improve the situation
isn't necessarily changing the roundabout itself
but with clear and simple driver awareness.
The solution's easy.
(mic creaking)
- What is it.
- Could tell you, but maybe you'd like to find out
from Ottawa's very own Jean-Gabriel Pageau.
(crowd cheering)
- That's me.
Now let's hit the roundabout.
(driving rock music)
- [Amy] So, Jean-Gabriel is doing
a nice job here of approaching.
He's lowered his speed, and he's monitoring the flow
of traffic, noticing there are vehicles
already using the roundabout.
Now there's an opening, and all lanes are clear.
He's ready to enter.
He keeps his speed low, stays in his own lane
and drives counterclockwise with the flow of traffic.
As he approaches his exit, he checks his mirror
and over his shoulder to make sure he's clear.
And he's off and on his way!
- [Group] Thanks, JG!
