  • Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Lesson 363 The title of today's lesson is don't

  • say a joke tell a joke. Okay. Let's take a look at the note here. You should not use

  • the verb say with joke. You can use the verbs tell, make , or crack. So somebody

  • could tell a joke, make a joke or crack a joke.

  • All of those are actually pretty common. I think crack sounds the funniest, but

  • actually tell and make is probably more common. Okay. Let's continue. You can say a

  • line in a joke that would be okay. For example you could say the punchline in a

  • joke. Somebody could say the punchline. Okay. Good.

  • All right and let's look at some examples here. Of course with the X this

  • is wrong. So this is where a student might make a mistake. If the student said,

  • he said a good joke. No. You shouldn't say he said a good joke. You should say he

  • told a good joke. Of course all these were the checks , these are correct. He

  • made a good joke. That's fine. He cracked a good joke. Yeah. Any of those are okay.

  • All right. And we have another example here. Of course with the X, this is wrong

  • again. He said that joke many times. No. You

  • wouldn't say he said that joke. He told that joke many times or we might ... In this

  • case we might even change to the verb repeated. He repeated that joke many

  • times. But you wouldn't say that he said that joke. Okay and now we just give one

  • example with punchline too. Like especially if there was like always

  • sometimes call like um comedy duo. You know, there's two comedians, two stand-up

  • comedians telling jokes at the same time. Somebody

  • might ask this question. Which comedian is going to say the punch line. In this

  • case. So yeah because there's always just only one of them can say the punch line.

  • That's the line that as soon as you say it you know, that makes the joke funny

  • and people laugh right after that. That's referred to as like the punch line. Okay.

  • Anyway, I hope you got it. I hope it is clear. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
