  • - The music One Direction was making wasn't really for me.

  • But once all the band members split up,

  • the individual music from each person

  • was definitely something I could really more relate to.

  • It sounds kinda like something that One Direction would still do.

  • - That's more of his individual style.

  • Like, I think he really had more input.

  • I would listen to that first than more of One Direction.

  • The way that I used to be

  • - I think I like the dancing more than the music itself.

  • You know, I love it when the music's loud

  • I still love him, but it's just not my favorite.

  • I'm gonna sound like every other try-hard Chris Brown song."

  • It looks cringy.

  • - What's cool to see is how each person has their own style.

  • Liam definitely has a little different, like,

  • almost hip-hop-ish type of thing going on.

  • - He's totally going for that, like, "I'm gonna sex it up."

  • The music itself is hot. I like it.

  • Danceable, I can see it.

  • - ♪ Wish that you could build a time machine

  • - It's very similar to, um, Liam's.

  • - Louis engaging in that Auto-Tune. (laughs)

  • Looking at the stars

  • - See, now, this sounds like an EDM kind of vibe.

  • - I love this, the tone of his voice.

  • I hate that I kinda like this.

  • - It's a little more dance though. This one's more dance.

  • If it all goes wrong

  • - This puts me in a good mood. I like this.

  • - Ehh. I mean, I don't hate it. But I don't love it.

  • He got to get more creative than that.

  • - It's the same thing as Liam, you know?

  • It's a pop song, more dance influence

  • rather than hip-hop influence. But it did nothing special for me.

  • - It sounds pretty good.

  • In One Direction, I thought he was

  • the least talented a little.

  • But I mean, he still sounds good on his own.

  • When this song came out, I felt like he made it for me.

  • He's using real instruments.

  • - It kinda reminds me, like,

  • a little bit of David Bowie-ish a little bit, you know,

  • with the atmosphere and, um--

  • I think it's cool. He's trying to carve his own lane.

  • - I don't love that song.

  • And the first time I heard it with my daughter,

  • we all wanna swoon, right? It's Harry Styles.

  • I was sorta like, "Huh."

  • Is this the one-- oh yeah, with Gigi. They're pretty cute.

  • - See, to me, Zayn took it to the next level.

  • - Honestly, he's dating Gigi Hadid.

  • He's winning in every aspect of life.

  • - Yeah, Zayn's voice is pretty good too.

  • I would say his voice is second to Harry.

  • - He has such a strong voice.

  • But in the music video, he's just like very monotone.

  • I like that one the most.

  • They're all very, very different from one another.

  • So... hmm. I have a little bit more respect for the band.

  • Still don't like the band, but I like them individually.

  • - All right. Definitely carved his own lane. I like that, man.

  • He's good. He's good.

  • He did it right, Zayn. Zayn is the man.

  • I wasn't a big One Direction guy.

  • But hearing them as solo artists, um,

  • I think it's a little better.

  • It's deeper. It's more individual.

  • - Solid music, man. 10 out of 10 for each person.

  • - I think that it's super good

  • that they're doing their own thing.

  • Maybe in a few years,

  • they'll make a reunion for One Direction, you know.

  • And then all the moms will be there.

  • - I'm sad that they're not together,

  • because I loved their albums

  • and their music when they were together.

  • But I always preferred Harry's voice

  • and Harry's solo parts in the songs

  • when they were in One Direction.

  • And now I have a whole album just of his voice.

  • Oh! It's amazing.

  • - I'm pretty sure that in One Direction's case,

  • they just weren't agreeing on what kind of music.

  • Because if you look, they all went separate ways

  • in the kinds of music that they were producing,

  • which is interesting.

  • - (FBE) Okay. So we have to ask,

  • 'cause this is always debated with bands over history

  • similar to One Direction, which one do you think

  • will have the most success as a solo artist?

  • - I'm gonna go with the guy that was levitating. Was that Harry?

  • He maybe had the best voice.

  • - The last one, whoever that was.

  • - (FBE) Zayn. - Yeah.

  • I feel like it had all the factors.

  • - Zayn by far. But he already won Billboard new artist.

  • - In my opinion, I would say Harry.

  • His music is so different from the rest of 'em.

  • I feel like it's just so old-school.

  • - Harry.

  • He has a powerful voice.

  • - I don't know any of them, but that Zayn guy,

  • I didn't know he could sing that well. And he's talented.

  • - Harry Styles, 100%.

  • It's always been Harry Styles is the one who sticks out always.

  • - You're talking about the front man,

  • that person that's gonna stay in the spotlight and be, you know,

  • massive on social media and on videos

  • and on YouTube and all that. Um, I don't know.

  • My money's a little more on Zayn right now.

  • - Kinda like Harry, man, because

  • you can't really pigeonhole him.

  • Like, he can just go any direction, you know,

  • instead of One Direction.

  • Ahhhh.

  • - (FBE) And finally, in your life,

  • there have been many bands like One Direction

  • who have had members go on to solo careers.

  • How have you looked back on the bands that they started in

  • versus the solo work later in their career?

  • - It's sad when they leave the band, of course,

  • 'cause you want them together.

  • But it's understandable if people want to grow and be themselves.

  • - It's usually 100% win-fail, like one way or another.

  • It's like, "Oh, you needed your band?"

  • Or it's like, "Oh, you're the talent behind the whole thing.

  • So that's why you went forward."

  • - NSYNC, right? Justin Timberlake came out of that.

  • And he did great. He's awesome.

  • And I don't know if I would've guessed that

  • back when they were still together,

  • 'cause he had kinda like the whiniest voice of them all.

  • But then, look, he turned out great.

  • - JC did his own thing too, right?

  • But does anyone remember that? No, 'cause it probably sucked.

  • - That's hard to say, because, I mean, look at Justin Timberlake.

  • Justin Timberlake was in NSYNC.

  • And you don't listen to Justin Timberlake today

  • and remember NSYNC necessarily.

  • But you can look at him and appreciate what he does

  • and then still love NSYNC. So I don't know.

  • I feel like it's kinda gonna be like that towards them

  • just because they are individually so popular.

  • Everyone still loves them.

  • So I feel like their music individually

  • is just gonna be so different than them together.

  • But I feel like everyone is just gonna love both, you know?

  • I mean, at least I do.

  • - Those guys probably didn't grow up together.

  • They probably didn't meet in college together.

  • They probably didn't go to high school together.

  • They were formulated. So they're like groups.

  • Bands are people that sing and play instruments.

  • So it's a different thing.

  • I just know now that instead of one person going big,

  • I know a couple of those guys or more, you know,

  • two or three of those guys can go big.

  • A boy band staying together for 20 years?

  • No, not gonna happen.
