Okay, one thing though, every meal is, like, SUPER important in France.

ただ、1つだけね、食事全部がフランスではすっごく重要で、

Except for breakfast, for some reason.

朝食以外は、なぜかわかんないけど。

For lunch and dinner, everyone sat down together as a family and talked.

ランチと夕食はみんな家族で座って会話をするんだ。

But for breakfast, they were just like:

でも朝食は、こういう感じ：

"Here's a croissant! Okay, let's go."

「ほら、クロワッサン！さあ行こう」って

I mean, breakfast is only the most important meal of the day.

朝食って1日の中で一番重要な食事でしょ。

And I was going to make a joke about how they have an entire aisle of cheese in the grocery store, but I realised back home we have an entire aisle for candy and ice cream.

スーパーで陳列棚全部チーズってことを冗談でも言おうかと思ってたんだけど、僕の国では棚一列お菓子とアイスクリームだって気づいたんだ。

So, whatever.

だから、まあいいや。

We went to the Louvre, which was like so amazing.

ルーヴル美術館に行ったんだけど、すごくよかった。

They had really cool art by famous people.

有名な人のすごい芸術が展示してあるんだ。

They had the famous statue with no arms.

腕のない有名な彫刻だってあるんだ。

They had these really fancy rooms because apparently people used to live here?

すごく豪華な部屋があって、昔人が住んでたかららしんだ。

And probably the most famous painting in the world, the Mona Lisa.

そして、世界で一番有名な絵画、『モナ・リザ』

That room was super crowded.

あの部屋はすごい人混みだったよ。

And right behind the Mona Lisa, there was this super tall painting that probably took twenty years to make.

で、『モナ・リザ』の後ろにはおそらく20年くらいかけて描かれた絵画が展示されてて。

The picture frame was as wide as my body.

絵の額縁は僕の体くらいの幅だったんだ。

But were people crowded around this one taking pictures?

でもこの絵画の周りに集まっている人が写真を取ってたかって？

No.

いいや。

I don't even know what this one's called.

僕この絵がなんて呼ばれているかも知らないんだ。

The American school system has failed me yet again.

またしてもアメリカの学校教育に裏切られたよ。

And as someone who likes to draw, I thought it was really cool to look at the amazing color and details.

絵を描くのが好きな人として、僕は素晴らしい色彩と細かい細部まで見れてすごくよかった。

Also, I took a bunch of pictures of butts!

それに、お尻の写真もいっぱい取ったんだ！

Look, this is the really famous no-arm one!

みて、これがあの腕のない有名なやつだよ！

Look at her butt!

So I had a good time, but afterwards we went to the Picasso Museum, Modern Art Museum, and this other one.

楽しい時間を過ごせました、でもあとで僕たちはピカソ美術館、近代美術館とあともう1つの美術館に行ったんだけど

I forgot it's name.

名前忘れちゃった。

It was French.

名前はフランス語だったね。

And it's kind of weird going into these places as someone who likes to draw cartoons.

こういう美術館に行くのは、漫画家にとっては変な感じだね。

Oh, I like the colors, they're pretty neat.

色は気に入ったよ、すごく巧妙だね。

And oh, putting the face on the side of the head.

あとそうだ、横顔に顔を描いてるやつ。

That's...that's an interesting...design...?

あれは…面白い…デザインだよね？

But I kind of have to draw the line somewhere, Picasso.

でも、ピカソ、僕はどこかに線を描きたくなるな。

I mean, just look at this!

だって、みてよ！

Why is it framed?

なんで額縁に入れてあるの？

Someone...someone framed this.

誰かが…誰かが額縁に入れたんた。

And Picasso was a good artist.

ピカソはいい画家だった。

Shoot. He's better than me.

おっと、僕よりいい画家だね。

So why do they brought this stuff to hang up?

なんで美術館はこんな絵を買って展示してるんだ？

Would you call this his best work?

これピカソの最高傑作だって言える？

It's not just Picasso, look at the modern art museums.

ピカソだけじゃなくて、この近代美術館見てよ。

My favourite piece was the painting of a black ring.

僕が一番気に入ったのは黒い指輪の絵画。

In fact, I loved it so much that I drew over it in my phone.

実は、すごく気に入ったから携帯に模写したんだ。

And probably spent more time and thought than the actual artist!

本当の画家よりも時間かけてたと思うね！

I'm not saying the more real a painting looks, the more artsy it is.

本物にみえれば見えるほど、芸術的って言ってるわけじゃないんだけど。

Oh wait, yes I am.

いや、言ってるかも。

I mean, look at my drawings.

だって、僕の模写見てよ。

No seriously. Look at them.

本当に、見てよ。

Their heads are super round, and they're so white they can't dance.

頭はまん丸で、真っ白、ダンスも下手なんだ。

If I entered an art contest against Leonardo Da Vinci, he would win!

もしレオナルド・ダ・ヴィンチ相手に芸術コンテストでたら、負けちゃうな！

Because his stuff took talent, it's not easy to draw something exactly like it does in real life.

だって、彼の作品って才能がいるんだ、本物みたいに描くのって本当に難しんだ。

But cartoons?

でも漫画はって？

They're easy.

簡単なんだ。

They're so easy.

すごく。

And I know I'm leaving out paintings with color schemes and forms.

色彩設計と構造は省いてるけど。

And after seeing this, I've come up with something called the Keith Haring Principle to help people like me better understand modern art.

それで、これ見てから、僕みたいな人が近代美術を理解できるようになるキース・ヘリングの原理っていうものを思いついたんだ。

In the late 70's, a man named Keith Haring drew graffiti in subway stations and had sort of a unique design.

70年代後半、キース・ヘリングという男性は地下鉄に落書きを描いたんだ、それはユニークなデザインだったんだ。

Whenever he started to draw graffiti, he never thought about what the finished product was going to be.

彼が落書きを描き始める時は、完成した作品がどういったものになるかは考えていないんだ。

He just drew whatever he felt like.

ただ感じたまま描くだけ。

He ended up making thousands of them.

結局最終的に何千もの落書きを描いたんだ。

And people started to notice his unique characters.

で、世間が彼のユニークなキャラクターに気づき始めたんだ。

Soon, he got more and more famous and popular.

すぐに彼はどんどん有名になって、人気も上がったんだ。

Now he's at the point where you can buy T-Shirts and mugs of his drawings.

今彼は自分のデザインの乗ったTシャツやマグカップを販売するほどになってるんだ。

And I think that's really cool.

すごいと思うな。

They're interesting designs and I would wear them.

デザインはユニークで、僕も着たいと思うよ。

Do they belong in a museum?

美術館に展示されるべきかって？

No.

いいや。

Keith made thousand of these small, simple drawings.

キースはこういう小さくて、シンプルな絵を何千も描いたんだ。

They're still art,

でもこれは芸術だよね。

but not art people should pay to see.

でもお金を払ってみる芸術ではないかな。

They should pay to wear and drink out of it.

払って、着たり、飲んだりするものかな。

And by the way, this stuff is in no way research, so I'm talking completely out of my butt right now.

ところで、これ全部絵画を研究してるわけではなくて、僕がただ適当に言ってるだけだから。

But I think Picasso, and this circle painting, should be on T-shirts or kid's books or even web comics.

でもピカソは、そして彼のこの丸の絵はTシャツとか子供の本とはウェブコミックに使うべきしゃないかな。

So people would say; "Hey, I like your shirt."

まわりはきっと「君のシャツいいね」っていうと思うよ。

"Thanks, I like the design and would never frame it and hang it up on my wall."

「ありがとう、このデザイン好きなんだ、額縁になんか入れて壁に飾ったりしないよ」ってね。
