You probably already know

みなさんもう知っているかもしれませんが、

that in English we have some verbs that are always

英語のある動詞にはうしろに

followed by the infinitive – for example: want.

to 不定詞がつくことがありますー 例えば: want です

And other verbs that are always followed by the

他の動詞は後ろに

gerund - for example: enjoy.

動名詞がくるものがありますー例えば: enjoy

But we also have some verbs in English

ですが、英語では

that can be followed by either

後ろにどちらをおいてもいい動詞があります

the infinitive or the gerund

to 不定詞または動名詞です

and the meaning will change - for example: remember

そしてそれぞれ意味が違ってきます- 例えば: remember

Remember to bring your umbrella

「Remember to bring your umbrella：傘を持って行くのを覚えておいて！」

- where first you remember and then

- ここではまず覚えておき、そして

you bring your umbrella.

傘を持って行く行為をします

This is commonly used when talking about the future.

これは一般的に未来について話す時に使われます

I remember meeting my best friend when I was little

「I remember meeting my best friend when I was little：小さい時に親友に出会ったのを覚えている」

- where first I met my best friend

ーここではまず親友に出会ったことがおき、

and then I remembered it.

そしてそれを覚えているという行為が後に続きます

This is now a memory,

これは記憶のことですね

so it's commonly used when talking about the past.

なので、過去についてのことによく使われます
