- Okay, hey guys it's Brooklyn and Bailey.
And today's video is going to be high school advice
because a lot of you guys are going into high school.
- I know we were talking to a lot of you guys at VidCon
and you guys are 13, 14, going into high schoolish age
and we thought it'd be a good idea
to put up a high school advice video
especially school is starting right around the corner.
- Ah!
- I know, ugh, me too.
- Not looking forward to that.
- So, let's get on to the advice.
- We have decided to talk about three main topics
and do you wanna explain what those three topics are?
- We have friends, which of course
are important in high school.
- Style.
- Then study.
- Those are the three main things.
So let's first start with friends.
So, in high school, going into high school
making friends might seem like a little intimidating
or maybe you're going into high school
knowing lots of people.
So a really important thing to remember
is just always to smile.
(upbeat music)
If you wanna make friends, just speak
hi to everyone. - [Brooklyn] Happy, kind,
always. - [Bailey] Just like,
I remember going, 'cause we moved from Texas.
I remember coming into 8th grade.
It wasn't necessarily high school,
but it was still the same thing, like I remember thinking
" I have no friends, what am I gonna do?"
and I just remember being like "Hi, hello, hi, hi."
- Just happy all the time.
- [Bailey] Like probably that really annoying girl
that's like "Hey" in the hallway.
- [Brooklyn] Every single minute, yeah.
- That was totally me, but like in the long run,
like being kind to everyone and saying hello
totally opens up--
- It's really important.
- for becoming friends.
Like everyone's like "Oh that's the girl that says hi to me.
"Like I can totally talk to her" and stuff.
- Just find someone that you think you could be friends with
and then just invite 'em over a couple times,
get a feel for 'em and if they
- [Bailey] But sometimes the people that you think--
- [Brooklyn] fit in and they don't.
I mean, I don't know.
- But sometimes the people
that you think you could be friends with
aren't necessarily the people
that you end up being friends with.
Be involved.
So like go join a club.
- Just go to the sports events, because in some places,
like in Texas of course, the most popular is
- football.
- Every Friday there's a football game.
- and that's like the social event of the week.
- And it's like a social gathering,
like even if you don't understand football
you go anyways, cause everyone's gonna be there.
- One other thing that we have for friends is just
don't get too serious like with guys
really fast. - [Brooklyn] Relationships.
- You know like sometimes it's really fun to just
be friends with guys.
- You're like freshmen, there's older boys
and we're gonna date - [Bailey] Yeah, he's hot.
- and kiss.
- I'm not saying there aren't cute guys.
'Cause man, there are cute guys.
Aw, okay so now we're gonna move on
to style.
Style for high school.
The first thing that we have here
is you don't necessarily need to dress up every day.
- Yeah, no. - [Bailey] I would just say,
like dress up once a week and then you can
dress like casual or maybe even like sludgy.
- Yeah, we do, we do, like my schedule goes like this,
Monday I wear a dress.
(upbeat music)
And then the rest of the week goes downhill
until Friday when I'm in my sludgy clothes.
(rap music)
Wear your clothes as age appropriate as possible
so like, maybe high school's not the best time
to be wearing Justice clothes
or what are some younger kid clothes?
I mean I don't know, like there are some brands
that are just younger looking
that you might wanna age out of a little bit.
- Okay so one other thing we have for style here
is to just buy like one school spirit shirt
and then just wear it, you know?
Just like sport that school spirit.
Be like whoo! - [Brooklyn] You don't need
50 different shirts to wear at 50 different games.
You know? - [Bailey] Color your face
and your hair and anything crazy like that.
But just get that one shirt or that one like hat.
- So that if there's a school spirit day
or something, you look like you have
school spirit. - [Brooklyn] You can rock it.
And now we're gonna move on to study.
Drum roll please. (hands on legs)
Very first thing, don't procrastinate.
That's like one of my biggest problems.
I procrastinate all the time. - [Brooklyn] I'm know I'm bad,
but she's probably worse than me.
- But procrastination is a totally normal thing.
Everybody does it. - [Brooklyn] Yeah,
it's an everyone thing.
- But with high school, it's like you really have to have
those things on time,
so I would really suggest not doing that.
- Yeah, it gets hard because you have like,
well for us at least we have eight periods a day,
and then you have this little tiny sliver at night
where you can do stuff, so if you procrastinate, you--
- High school's hard.
- Yeah, it's tough.
I know for me personally, I have to keep a schedule,
well I should keep a schedule.
- [Bailey] Okay, she's like super organized,
so she has a schedule.
- [Brooklyn] But you need a schedule, because I know
personally that I've done three homework papers,
and I think I'm totally good, and then I wake up
in the morning, and I get to first period,
and they're like, "test" and I'm like "Wait, we have a test?
"I didn't even know. Oh, my gosh I didn't even study!"
Hurry, scan the review like five pages.
- And that ties right into our next thing,
which is in high school the teachers don't remind you
every single day that you have a test
coming up at the end of the week.
- Teachers will usually say, "You have a test in two weeks,"
Or "You have a project in two weeks. Here is your review,
and then they won't say anything about
for the rest of the two weeks. - Until the day of the test.
My favorite advice to give is be friends with your teachers.
You don't know how that come --
- They're super cool people.
Trust me, they want to be your friend
as much as you want to be theirs.
- And it could come in handy.
For instance -- - Our Spanish teacher.
- Our Spanish teacher.
So we were gone for all of these trips for YouTube.
- Traveling for work all the time.
- So we were going to ask her for some help
and see what we could do to help pick up
our grades a little, and she was gonna say no
because she thought we had been slipping
or we were sick - or not coming at all
for no reason -- - And so we finally managed
to explain and get things figured out
that we were actually working and doing YouTube.
And now we're really great friends,
and I even got a reward from her at the end of the year.
Now we're best buds with my Spanish teacher.
- Miss Hampson. I was watching Brooklyn and Bailey's video,
and they said to be friends with your teachers.
- Oh, really? - So can we be friends?
- Why, of course! - Oh, my gosh. Hey!
Oh, my gosh. I have something for you.
Here is an apple for my FTFL.
- What is an FTFL? - Favorite Teacher for Life.
- Oh, my! Thank you so much, sweetie!
- Aah, yay! we're friends!
- Remember our expectations versus reality
of the end of the school year?
Remember that teacher that was in there?
(upbeat music)
She is our friend! - Super cool.
- And that's why it's good to be friends
with your teachers because you can film YouTube videos
in their room.
- Yeah, and I've had instances where,
if you're nice to your teachers,
and the end of the year, they're like,
"Oh, that students?" I remember her being awesome,
and we were firends, and she was a good student.
She got good grade. It's like they always have
a positive idea of you in their head.
- I'm mean, teachers are people, too.
They just wanna be friends with their students.
- Yeah, they're not monsters like people think.
They're awesome.
- What? (laughs)
The last thing that we have for study
is just to be aware that grades do matter.
- They do. - Grades are so important
for the future. For your future, for high school in general.
It's just, you really work hard, even though it seems
hard now, and it seems like,
"Yeah. What are these needs for?"
- It starts freshman year, I think, that colleges
start to look at your grades.
And so I know a lot of kids are like, "Oh, I've got these.
I'm doing so good, but then you get to college,
and those people are like, "You got 7 B's. Uh-uh.
"We're not giving you a scholarship.
"I don't know if we'll take you."
It's like, you got to keep up on those grades
as much as it pains you, you'll really appreciate it
when you're older.
The very very last tip we have for you is just be confident.
Be yourself -- - Definitely.
- And just remember that there's always someone
in high school that you can fit in with,
whether or not they're like the theatre geek
and you're the cheerleader.
Or maybe you've the theatre person and
they're the cheerleader or totally opposite spectrums.
There's always someone out there for you.
So just keep an eye out. Be confident. Be yourself.
That's the way we do it. - And have fun.
High school is a fun time. - Have fun!
