Today I'm going to explain the difference between to steal and to rob.

今日は 「steal」 と 「rob」の違いを紹介します。

Both to steal and to rob mean 'to take something without permission'.

「steal」 と 「rob」は同じ意味があります：「許可なしに他人の物を取る」

To steal focuses on the object or the thing which is taken. For example: Hey! Somebody just stole my phone.

「steal」 は盗まれた物体に焦点を当てます。例えば： あれ！ だれかが私のスマホが盗みました。

Rob focuses on the victim of the crime.

「Rob」は物が盗まれた被害者に焦点をあてます。

For example:

The men robbed a bank last night.

昨夜、あの男は銀行を襲いました。

I wouldn't say:

次の言い方はありません：

Someone robbed my phone.

誰かが私の携帯を襲いました。

I would say:

正しい言い方は：

They robbed me and stole my phone.

彼らは私を襲って、携帯を盗まみました。
